Subject: Some days it's not worth getting up in the morning!

Two of our sons have been remodeling a multi-million dollar assisted living facilities for the past year. Yesterday, the youngest son hopped onto a fork lift to remove debris from a wall they had knocked down. The problems began when he forgot to lock down the pin on the forks.

As he started to move it forward, the fork flew off, grazing his head, knocked him off the lift and then hit his foot. Anyone with knowledge of a fork lift knows those forks weigh 800-1,000 pounds. He was rushed to the nearest hospital ER. Sutures in his head and then x-rays on his foot--two broken bones on the side of his arch.

After a restless night, little sleep he got up, forgot he had a broken foot, tripped over a chair and fell. Deciding he's had enough, he went to our local hospital ER. The first one prescribed Vicoden which he's allergic to.

Our hospital decided to do c-scans because of intense swelling and discoloration. That showed one clean break, three fractures plus bone chips. Where the first hospital put on a half foot immobilizer, he now has a moldable cast up to his knee and he'll see an orthopedic surgeon Monday when the swelling should be diminished and he'll get an old fashioned cast. That's a relief to me since he has a habit of taking off the immobilizer.

It's finally sunk in how close he came to being killed. Sometimes one needs to be reminded!
