Subject: State of the Haven Address (run for your lives, Phule is feeling POLITICALLY MINDED!)

Ok...it seems that things are starting to pick up again. That's a happy thing. Here's how things are looking right now.

We have access to a FREE website, with no banners or popups, and a 100 meg limit. This is all good, except that the only people who are allowed access are myself and Drake. For those of you who are curious as to why that is, Drake got it through a friend, and he's being protective. In addition, the server is giving both myself and Drake a rather difficult time, so we're not sure what the move is going to be. It's easy enough to get another website, but it'll be smaller...of course, we can give more people the password...we'll get back to you.

At the moment, it looks as though we've got a fairly big membership base....good enough to start a clan, at any rate.

At the moment, this is how the clan politic structure is going to work.

3 Council Members

These people need to be well liked/respected, and responcible. People who will be around alot, and able to make decisions quickly and fairly, and then stick by them.

In reality, these people have no real power other than what the other members choose to let them have. At the moment, only myself and Emrys have stepped forward to volunteer for this, uhh, "prestigious" position. As a final note...these people need to be reliable. They need to stick around, and NOT to AWOL without word or message for long periods of time. ::cough cough MARX cough hack::

1 Hall Master

In Diablo 2, clans will be able to acquire clan halls. Essentially, these are normal games, except they contain only the guild hall and the number of people who can be in the game is considerably higher. (Since it would be a relatively small map, and no monsters, they can get away with this.)

However, the Guide Halls are designed under the thinking that the clan will be run by a single-person leadership system. As such, only one person can be the Hallmaster. This is the person who updates the list, since only people who are on the list can enter the hall.

The person we choose for this has to be the embodiment of active. I had planned on nominated Tseng for this, but he's gone now...he was going offline for a month or so while his family moved across country, and he never came back.

I wouldn't mind having this job, personally...and will accept it if you want me too, provided we have someone to replace my seat on the council. (And let's face it, I've pretty much got an assured seat if I want it. :-P )

Housemasters

Yes, we'll be keeping the house system. Those of you who were around know that SH was one hell of a clan, and I attribute that primarily to the house system we had.

The houses promoted growth (everyone wanted thier house to grow, be the biggest) and it kept people playing the games alot more (I don't know about you, but I always relished watching those DoD or GoD fella's go down before the mighty ranks of noble KTS warriors)

We'll have as many houses as we need, adding them as we need to. I suggest we set a minimum house size, say...4. But that's an idea.

The housemasters are the gatekeepers, if you will, to the clan. They, and they alone have the power to let people into the clan. When we recruit someone, they have a REC status, which is not a full member. They have to get a Housemaster to let them in.

This did something that most clans have a real problem with. Look at other clans out there. How many of the "elite" ever horde around the new guy? The REC's were always being approached by the housemasters, and other high ranking people, who would try to get the hapless recruit to join thier house. I remember when I was housemaster of KTS, whenever I saw another housemaster with a REC, I ALWAYS joined them, in an attempt to prevent the young REC from being swayed away from the true path that was KTS.

and of course, the members...the heart and soul of the clan.

I don't want anyone out there who doesn't have a "power position" to think less of themselves. High rank, for the most part, means nothing in this clan. Sure, in some houses, rank may be determined by skill, but that will certainly not be the case in all of them. I propose that our cardinal rule...the #1 rule that EVERYONE follows should be as follows.

Don't be an asshole.

If that had been an enforced rule way back when, SH would never have died. Think about it.

You could be the worst player at Starcraft the world has seen, but if I enjoy your company...if you're a good person to be around, then I don't care and I'll play with you on my team any day of the week. It works the other way, too. You can be God's gift to Starcraft, but if you're a jerk, get lost, that's not what this clan is about.

This needs to be the philosophy of the clan. This needs to be how we operate. The leaders are the leaders, and yea, we help keep the clan around. Bit we're like the steering wheel, if you will. It's an essential peice of hardware, but the steering wheel doesn't do much if the engine is missing.

Other things about the clan.

Medals...I want to revamp the medal system. There should be two kinds of medals...

First, are the accomplishment medals. These are fairly easy to come by, and are nothin' special. Before, they were things like "50 wins, 100 wins, 150 wins, Tourny Medal, etc..." Nothin' to 'em. Easy to get, win, and once ya got 'em, no way to lose 'em.

Second, are the nomination medals. These will be fewer, and harder to come by. In order to get 'em, a housemaster must put in a nomination. In the case of a housemaster, the council will make the nomination. These are for medals like "Medal of Honor, Achievement, Extreme Achievement, Loyalty, etc..."

Last time, medals like these were handed out a little too easily. I tell you truthfully, medals are the best way to attract new people, since it gives them something to aspire to, a goal to aim for, what have ya.

For example, let's say Drake works tirelessly for three weeks on the webpage (Hey, I can hope, can't I Drake?), and does a fine job. Someone could then say "Ya know...Drake's done a good job, he deserved the medal of Achievement." The council would then deside on the matter, and the medal would be awarded. (Hint, hint, Drake :-) )

Finally, the issue I like talking about least....punishment. What to do when someone does something naughty? We can always tack up a Medal of Shame, perhaps a reduction of rank, or whatever... possibly even expulsion.

While I was Council member, we expelled two people. Kosh, for suspected cheating in a Diablo Tournament and Than, for being an asshole and accusing the Council of being fascist dictators robbing the "good people of SH of thier God-given rights..." or some such dribble. I really do want to know how, exactly, I have the power to take away the rights of anyone on this board. If you know how, please tell me.

At the time, there were also a number of other incidents that the council never had a chance to deal with. The standards for recruiting got too low, we saw alot of pubescant 12-year olds who wouldn't shut up about the music on the webpage.

Recruitment is a MUST, for obvious reasons but we can't get carried away. The people who post here, are an extraordinary bunch, no doubt about it. Let's find more people to fill out our ranks, and not ruin the feelings of kinship that have developed over the course of time. (GROUP HUG....GROUP HUG!)

Blech...wow, that got REALLY cheesy...heh heh heh.

Anyway, I'm slipping out of "political mode" now, so I'm gonna stop. Anyone can feel perfectly free to comment on anything I've said. There are no ranks amoung us yet, we are all equals here. (Except Drake, but only 'cause he keeps looking at me funny.)

See ya' round. Expect "Delusions of Grandeur, part 3" within 48 hours.
