Subject: Just so we don't all forget the purpose of the board, my revised plannings on the new'n'improved Safe Haven.

Well, I spoke with HellHarpoon the other day. Although it was nice talking to him again, I regret to say that our long-time ally, Order of the Shining Harpoon, have every intention to maintain thier current alliance with TC. The way I see it, this creates for us another enemy.

However, I did not discuss the matter with HellHarpoon, so they do not realize this yet, meaning we have the element of surprise. It is also probable that TC will not expect us to make a move either, although HellHarpoon does suspect that a war may indeed break out. He claimed that his forces would take a neutral stance in such an event, but that could merely be a ploy to get us to reveal our forces pre-maturely.

So what I want to know is if we should begin working up plans to include OSH in our opening assault on TC. Speaking of which, do we have any volunteers to go undercover? I'd be willing to, but I'm reasonably sure they'd know it was me before I could get in far enough.

Anyway, as to the structure of the clan itself, this is how I think it would best work out...

Council

The problem with a 1-person leadership is that if that person goes absent for no real reason (Marx), or is goverend by emotion (Swordbane), the clan as a whole suffers. So I suggest a council. That way, there's always likely to be SOMEONE around to make the decisions, and any stupid judgement calls can be vetoed.

I suggest a three-person council. Odd number, so there are never any ties, and small so that communication amoung them is possible.

Hallmaster

Hallmaster will be the person running the clan hall. He should probably serve as the clan disciplinarian. Punishment for cheating, or whatever, can be done by not allowing the individual into the clan hall for a certain amount of time.

I should also consider it appropriate for the Hallmaster ro keep and record Minutes of the clan meetings, as well as an inventory of the clan armory and treasury.

Perhaps the Hallmaster could have an assistant or two to keep track of those things, and to take over the role of Hallmaster on temporary basis. (The Hallmaster's family goes on vacation for 2 weeks, or being the interim Hallmaster between the time that a hallmaster steps down and a new one is elected, etc.)

House Masters

I liked the House system alot. There was a little inter-house hostility, although I firmly believe that it was mostly good natured.

The house-house competition encouraged clan growth. Housemasters wanted to bolster thier ranks, so they recruited, and spent alot of time with new recruits. That was why we always impressed our newbies, they liked the attention they got when they joined. Most other clans tend to ignore new members, whereas we all wanted 'em to join our house! Housemasters have one of the more important jobs in the clanm if not the most important.

Collectively, they should be able to "impeach" a council member if need be, and they are the only ones who can accept new members into the clan.

House Members

I don't want any member who isn't a Housemaster, Council member, or Hallmaster, to consider themselves "just a member."

Everyone plays a role, nobody is expendable. There are only a handful of leadership roles in the clan, and if you want, but can't get one, that says nothing about your skill or popularity. If you want to do something more, go right ahead. Start up a store, if you like. Join the webpage staff. Even if you can't do code, we are always on the lookout for pictures and music. Or just recruit. New recruits have a tendancy to kinda "latch" onto the member that recruited them. Back in old SH, if a housemaster recruited someone, 9 times out of 10 the Rec would join that house.

I always got a kick out of recruiting someone and watching all the housemasters come into the recruit channel and trying, without looking like they were trying, to convince the new guy to join thier house.

But many of the notables here weren't housmasters in the old SH. Camel, Ryan, Master all post here, but they weren't high ranked, yet are all highly respected members of the clan.

House Members make up the heart and soul of the clan. The episode with TC shows exactly what happens to a clan when some members up and leave. Usually they do that for a good reason, but we wont go there.

Anyway, I just thought I'd outline my latest revision of the clan workings and run 'em by you guys. Please let me know what you think. I really need feedback so I can keep revising the plan.
