[Winnipeg, MAN] There was much high-fiving at the Saskatoon Silos' draft table today, as the scouting staff gave every indication of a job well done.

There were some fans that were disappointed with the trade of the first pick overall for an extra first in this draft. If one is to believe the scouting staff, though, the move paid off very handsomely for the Silos, as the club managed to land several players they had rated in their top 5.

"I know you hear this all the time", said beaming Silos GM Ken McKenna, "but we are thrilled with the way the draft turned out. We picked up four of the five players we had rated in the top five of this draft, so how can we not be pleased?"

The Silos had a total of seven selections in the 2006 GWHL Draft, with the wings and defense having the most depth added.

In the first round, the team selected winger Brandon Bochenski and defenseman Andrew Hutchinson. Both players are currently playing well in the AHL, so they are probably nearly ready to take the next step.

"We actually had one guy ahead of these two, and we ended up with the other guy in the second round", said McKenna. "We wanted to make sure we picked up Bochenski, since we felt he was the best offensive winger in this draft, and Hutchinson has really played well this season."

The player the Silos passed over in the first round, and in fact the one they had rated the highest according to the GM, was goaltender Henrik Lundqvist. The Swedish netminder starred at the World Championships last year, and he has been on the club's radar ever since.

The second pick of the second round was winger Alexander Suglobov, another player showing well in the AHL at this time.

"Alex was the other player we had in our top five", said McKenna. "He should be a solid depth guy for the organization."

The final pick of the second round for the Silos was defenseman Radek Martinek. The scouts feels he can step in and help the team now.

The final two selections of the draft for the club were in the third round, with the team once again sticking with defense. Speedy defenseman Maxim Kondratiev was the first pick in the final round, while rearguard Ales Pisa was chosen with a compensation pick towards the end of the draft.

"Max is back in Russia, but he made a very favorable impression on our scouts earlier this season during a stint in the AHL", stated the cigar-chomping GM. "Pisa is another guy we think can add some solid depth to our defensive corps, so he should get a chance to play for us this season."

Fans will still be skeptical until some of these players put on the Silos jersey, but the jubilation of the team's scouts might help to ease the disappointment felt by those fans.
