Subject: Another Blockbuster in Yellowknife Author: Lien Seyah [ Next Thread | Previous Thread | Next Message | Previous Message ] Date Posted: 05:36:05 08/24/05 Wed Apparently suffering from a severe mental disease commonly known as "trading itch", Yellowknife Blades GM Neil Hayes has pulled the trigger on yet another blockbuster for his team. Gone to Montreal are GWHL superstar Peter Forsberg, Rod Brind'Amour and defenseman Sean Hill. In return, the Blades got much younger acquiring Brad Richards, Simon Gagne, and a 2nd round draft pick. "Short term, we lose this deal by a long shot" claimed Hayes. "However, players like Brad Richards don't come around very often, so if you have the chance to acquire a player of his calibre who is just coming into his prime, you do all you can." Forsberg, who is considered by some to be the best player in the GWHL, played well in his short stint in Yellowknife but was unable to turn the teams fate around. The Blades are currently the third worst team in the GWHL and it appears Hayes is looking to future seasons. "Brind'Amour is another great player but we felt he would only be at his peak for a short time given his age and we need to get this team younger" said Hayes. Sean Hill, who was brought in to solidify the Blades defense, failed to do so, and as a UFA after this season, it made sense to move him now. It appears this trade marks the end of Hayes trying to get the Blades into the playoffs this season. "Its been a tremendously difficult season for this team" said Hayes. "We came in with high expectations and we have not achieved them. As a result, the blueprint has been changed and we are looking towards future seasons." Asked if this deal meant he was throwing away the season, Hayes remarked "Hell no. You never know in this league what can happen. Teams can get hot.
