(HALIFAX)-After days of trawling the trade markets for big fish, it seems that Halifax Harpoons GM Stephen J. Holodinsky has finally landed one in Martin St. Louis. It was no secret that the Harpoons GM was looking to trade having several prospects, picks and young players from which to deal and in the end that's what it took to land the diminutive winger. Going to the Whitehorse Warriors in the deal were LW/RW Marco Sturm, prospect Jason Williams, and 2 third round picks in the 2009 draft.
"Anytime you can land a player of Marty's talent and only have to give up one roster player and a third liner at that, you have to make that deal," Holodinsky was quoted as saying. "While Marco (Sturm) did yeoman's work for us and we believe Jason will be a good one in time. St. Louis is a one of a kind player whom you don't get a chance to acquire every day."
While, everything seems to be sunny and bright in Halifax right now, though, there are clouds on the horizon. With the dealing for St. Louis, the roster situation as far as right wing goes is quite crowded. Nevermind that the Harpoons have three of the best manning the position in Marian Hossa, Milan Hejduk, and Zigmund Palffy, they also have another burgeoning great one in prospect Michael Ryder who management say they will sign to a pro contract this off- season.
"It's true there is a bit of a log jam there right now, but we don't think we are done dealing yet," explained the Halifax GM.
