(HALIFAX)-With five potential right wingers for three spots in Halifax, something had to give and today that something did with the dealing of four-time award winner Milan Hejduk to division rivals Montreal. Going into a contract year last season, The right winger had the best season of his career winning the Marcel Dionne Trophy for most gentlemanly player as well as the Espo 762 and the Bobby Hull Awards for most points and most goals respectively. He lead the team in points during the playoffs (13 g, 8 a) when Halifax captured it's third GWHL title.

Going with Hejduk to Montreal is left wing prospect Ryan Malone while coming back to Halifax is left winger Steve Sullivan, Montreal's 2nd round pick in 2009 and their 1st round pick in 2011.

There is little doubt that part of the reason for the trade was Hejduk's salary situation. There is little doubt that the Harpoons would have had ro qualify him at an excess of four million dollars per year, easily the highest of the stable of right wingers the club had accumulated. While Sullivan makes more than his predecessor Marco Sturm, the overall club payroll will still shrink thanks to the shedding of Hejduk's contracts demands.

Are the Harpoons done yet? No one knows, but rumours say that the team is looking to upgrade it's defensive core dangling prospects Brooks Orpik, Shawn Belle and Steve Bernier as bait.
