The Acrobat Plug-In is a headache. This is a already know problem. I do not know why but it seams that Acrobat do not close previous opened documents, so, after a while, the recourses are low. Check if you are using it through the IE interface (Edit>Preferences-InternalReader>InternetExplorerDefault). If not, change to that option and see if it fix the problem. If yes, try the AdobeAcrobat option instead.
My opinion..., Install the free Foxit pdf Reader from www.foxitsoftware.com and configure PDFE Internal Reader to the InternetExploreDefault option. You get lower draw quality compared with Adobe (imperceptible in most documents), but you get warp speed and more stability.
Tip: To edit InfoFields is better if you use the QuickEdit mode, Tools>QuickEdit or F4 as keyboard shortcut, now with QuickPaste assistant and DOI/ISBN Sniffer.
To change to another document, in that mode, use the grid navigating keys, left bottom toolbar, or CTRL+UP and CTRL+Down keyboard shortcuts to change to the next or previous document in the Grid.
