Hn. That's an interesting thought. I'd never really considered it from that angle. Hell, I think you might even be right about it, except for those last words. (Which, yeah, I'm a sucker for dark romance, in my mind it had to be 'I love you'... how else would he continue to break poor Subaru from beyond the grave?). I'm pretty sure you're reading too much into it, too ;).

And no- it should be especially obvious to someone who watched the anime that this was suicide- they even threw in extra lines: 'If you knew about the spell... then why?' I'm sure I'm not the only person that noticed that. I'm not sure why the anime directors felt they needed to point that out... maybe the slightly younger target audience? Either way you look at, though, Hokuto gave him the _choice_- she simply put her faith in him to do the right thing.
