I'm not sure I can help, but here is what I would try.
Try to hire a new employee, then assign the new employee as cashier. That should at least solve any Lara issues.
Check that you really are the owner of the store. When your wife died it should be automatically transferred to you, unless there were other household members with a better relation. You might want to try transferring the deed to another household member, then transfer it back to you, in case ownership is the issue. (I don't assume it is, though).
