Smoke and fog machines do affect smoke sensing alarms. However,
on the whole they don't affect heat sensing alarms. If the venue
has smoke alarms, then I'm afraid smoke machines could set them
off.

A good hazer machine shouldn't set smoke alarms off, but it's
always worth testing before you fill the place with people!
