My baby rott will soon be three years old. Around a year ago Tiny started limping on his rear right leg. I took my baby his veterinarian and he said that Tiny may have torn his cruciate ligament. The vet said to wait a bit to see how he does and have me medication to help him. As time went by Tiny was getting worse. So I took him back to the his vet and he x-rayed Tiny's back rear leg and examined him and told me that my baby has a complete torn ligament. So, Tiny's vet referred me to an orthopedic surgeon. First of all I had no idea about the troubles that rotts can have with their legs and hips. My child was visiting his father for the weekend, and his father who also has another child was getting him a puppy. So to my surprise he took my child along. I wish that my ex would have consulted me about getting his other child a puppy and taking my child with him. Then my child called me at his fathers house and asked me to stop by and see the puppy that his brother got. I went and I saw two puppies in the cage. Not just one! Don't get me wrong, I love all animals. Anyway there was my child in tears pleading with me to please let him keep the puppy. I could not say no. I was wanting to get another dog, but later in time. Also my ex informed me that I owe the puppies owners three hundred dollars! Suprise! We named him Tiny. And I love him with all my heart. Anyway back to the surgeon. He took x-rays and told me Tiny needed surgery. I knew nothing about this type of surgery! And I did not want Tiny to be in pain! Tiny had the T.P.L.O. metal plate and screws. Which did cost around three thousand five hundred. I also followed the instructions to the tee. I even slept with my Tiny in his pen, during his painful time he needed me to rub his tummy so he would then fall asleep. He had his operation November 2nd,2004. As time went by Tiny was doing okay. I keep him on the leash at all times to go potty. And then back to his (our) pen. Weeks later I took him back to the surgeon and he said that the ex-rays looked just fine. As time went by I would take my baby on small walks, he was so happy to get out of the house. As time went by he started limping on the same leg that was operated on. And I noticed that on the inside of his rear leg that it was swollen. I informed the vets. Again they informed me everything was fine. Well Tiny is limping more and is worse than before the operation! I called his vet and left him there for the day. They took more ex-rays and his vet told me he sees nothing wrong, maybe he sprained his ankle I don't think so. And he then charged me another three hundred and fifty. So I took my baby home and I was checking my e-mail and I noticed that my babies vet e-mailed me, and advised me that he contacted the surgeon and they feel that nothing is wrong! So I then took Tiny to three different vets and they said something is wrong with the leg that was operated on. The last vet that I took him to studied at Purdue. I and Tiny really liked this young new vet. And studied Tiny's ex-rays and I could tell that he did not what to say anything bad about the surgeon, but in his own way he said that a vet cannot tell on an ex-ray of the cruciate ligament is completley torn. He then suggested that he would like to send my babies ex-rays to a Radiologist. I agreed. He also suggested before a surgery seeing a radiologist and to be more informed about T.P.L.O. He did'nt say that it was good or bad. That more than an ex-ray needs to be done before thinking of this type of surgery. I'am still waiting for the results, and I also started looking on the web for more information on this type of procedure, I'm still confused about what to do when I find out the results. I will not take him back to the surgeon that performed the surgery because I really don't think that He or anyone else would tell me that they made a mistake. I know that things can go wrong but, also four thousand dollars later the first two vets say they see nothing wrong worries me a bit. I love my baby Tiny and I would do anything for him. The new vet uped his medication and Tiny seems to be doing alittle better. Reading about this procedure from other owners and veterinarian siminars which I have found out that the T.P.L.O can have complications. Some owners had the surgeons take the plate and screws out of their doggies. Just do alot of research and find out the good and bad of this procedure. Please don't let anyone rush you into a decision. I just trusted my vet! The new vet that we have said its better to pay three hundred to eight hundred dollars to have an M.R.I or go to a Radiologist that only specialists in radiology, because an ex-ray is not enough proof to determine what is wrong! Sorry this is so long I'm just frustrated and I want my Tiny to feel better. Thank You.

In regards to abcess & draining - Should I drain the abcess before it starts to ooze or do I wait till it starts to ooze?

thank you all
