Mulgrave Basketball made a decision last year that the Junior Development Director would be responsible for the development of junior players, coaches, and referee's. We therefore established three new positions within the Junior Development Program, namely a Junior Development Officer for the male junior program, a Junior Development Officer for the female junior program, and a Junior Referee's Coordinator, who was responsible for asisting the Junior Development Director in the development of junior referees. Originally Andrew Riley was appointed the JRC and the association paid for him to attend the NAJBC to gain extra exposure and identify trends to implement within the local competition. We then developed a Junior Referees panel and myself and Andy would then sit together on Friday nights and evaluate referees and provide feed back. Unfortunately Andy had to quit this position early into the year and we have yet to find a suitable replacement. Recently the job has been given to David Johnstone, to coordinate junior referees for the local junior competition. Ross SMITH has provided training for the referees. The plan is to reinstate the program during this year and have it up and running by the beginning of 2003. REferees will be trained once a month by the JDD and JRC, and then evaluated weekly with feedback. A Referees REpresentative Squad will be selected and those referees will then be given access to those advanced programs offered by QBI etc. Ultimately we would like to see our referees given the opportunity to attend Classic, State Regional Programs, but more importantly, a National Championships. If you have any further questions, please do not hesitate to contact me.
