THE BUSINESS OF BASEBALL STRIKES OUT !
As a middle income American, both now and as a child, I grew up in Alabama watching Dale Murphy, Bob Horner, and Phil Niekro stink up the NL West. I loved and still love the game. It is wonderful to watch my MLB version of the Buffalo Bills cruise through the regular season to fall short of every Professional Ballplayers dream, A World Series. The only year we probaly weren’t gonna make it, a Strike saved my Braves and ruined the Expos only shot at a World Series. STRIKE 1 ! That was strike one, I vowed to never buy a ticket or any merchandise from MLB. My father had a super swell shirt that pictured a Ball glove displaying the ole middle finger with a caption saying “ Thanks Assholes”. I wish I had that shirt today… When the next season started, almost every ballpark was giving away stuff and cheap tickets trying to lure our butts back to the game…IT WORKED ! Sammy and Big Mac brought us all back to the game. Everything was peachy, Arod gets his 40K per at bat salary and all is good.

Fast-forward to 2002 … THE ALLSTAR GAME! Yes, this is what baseball is all about. The best of the best dueling it out to claim league supremacy. All is well, Tie ball game … We Quit? There is no Tying in baseball. Is there? Maybe in this idiot Bud’s eyes, but not mine and millions of others just like me. STRIKE 2! Oh well, ball players are too scared to get hurt I guess. Why would Larry Walker take a day off every time he had to face Mr. Johnson? Well my Fantasy Team on ESPN was on the move and about to take over 1st Place so I guess we let that slide.

Now our Heroes are talking strike… Oh my, don’t let this happen…. This is not good. Setting the Strike date of August 30, 2002 in my eyes is saying” Screw you Chris… We don’t care about the fans that can’t afford a million-dollar luxury box”. So with that said, or not said, I say Bud, MLBPA, and All the Owners, “ Kiss my Ass! STRIKE 3 you guys are out in my book!
