Subject: Fans Should Strike

I have beeeen a baseball fan since I remember listening to the Cardinals/Red Sox world series in 1946?-the Cooper brothers, Slaughter, Marion, Shoendienst et al. I love the science, rhythm, geometry and strategy.I love the sounds, smells and tastes of the ballpark and the ehemeral nature of the players, coaches and managers-their "baseballness"-you get it. I hate what has happened to the game since free agency. I can't stand the marketing of the teams that believe noise and cheerleaders and constant electronic prompting will bring fans to the park.I will not pay $40.00
for a seat, $5.50 for a beer, $4.00 for a hotdog. $30.00 for a cap ever again. And I will not pay cable tv to allow mee to watch a game.On Friday I will be going to see thee Ottawa Lynx and Syracuse Sky Chiefs and that may be the last ball game I ever watch if they go out on Friday.Thay've drained me dry. When young new Bluee Jay Josh Phelps admits he is embarrassed to be making $200,000 as a rookie(to-day's Totonto Star)I feel some hope in the younger player,s attitude but i fear that he will be onee of "them"before long.
With hope, but not much.MB
