Well, being a tee-totaller, I couldn't warn you about how much concentration it takes to type while drunk, but you may be on to something about selling keyboards with extra big keys for drunk people. Of course, do we want drunk people unplugging cables and plugging in different keyboards? Maybe we'd need two keyboards with a switch between them to make it easier? :-D

For some unknown reason Spike gets his hands removed from his body. Why on earth would they do that..Wasn't Xander's eye enough! This may be the first time that i won't be able to watch an episode. I thought this was supposed to be a lighter season but so far the lightness was there but it's going dark :(
Andrew's coming too for a small scene..

He said that a slayer that's in a mental ward cuts his hands off and that Andrew implies that Giles and co could be coming and that it maybe paving the way for Willow to come and reattach them..and that he'll be a meaty Spike(my words). Still, Spike is really portrayed as a moron at the beeginning in the sides...Really he couldn't put one and one together? Damnit he was in Sunnydale and knew about Willow's spell making all those slayers, he should have suspect something about Dana instead of thinking she was possessed by a demon! And later, the blood should have given hom clues damnit!

not much though but better. Am I right in thinking Spike is still a vamp when brought to form? Because I have to agree if he is then he should have known from the smell it was a slayer..and a mean one at that. Is Spike the man who tortured her? or the necromancer from the previous ep?or maybe someone entirely different

still a vamp. As for the torturer...

this is the big question...and they don't solve it at the end of the episode according to Tensai.
Frankly I'm mostly upset because of that, because the episode implies thta he might be the Humming Man. Spike can't be a torturer, he was never an Angelus bis, and the ambiguity of the episode is like a betrayal to this character...

I'm off now...And Gemma, Australia won against Scotland so congrats!

[> [> [> [> Spoilers -- sister_ray, 11:28:58 11/08/03 Sat [1] (213.54.79.182)

shouldn't be taken out of context.
The Spike and Harm sex is true, but similar to Spike and Anya and the upside is that one has to be corporeal to have sex. That's why he's so eager, he hasn't been able to have any bodily contact of his own volition (apart from hitting Angel and the spark with Fred).
The ep 11 are a bit more complex than that: Spike is trying to help her. The summary at spoilerslayer.com should give you a fuller picture.

Spike mavens couldn't believe he was going to die in Chosen last year. Buffy aficionadoes were upset by the cookie dough speach. Dawn-oriented fans were pi$$ed that they would have her kiss Buffy while throwing her out in Empty Places. (ME did cut that one.)

The point is the almost no show's spoilers leave us happy.

I'm not unspoiled for Angel, I just don't care. Maybe it's because my favorite character didn't cross over. Oh. That was the idea - bring Spike, bring his fans.

to cut come after your character gets what's coming to her. The recovery may be long and hard. Take that any way you want.

Back on thread topic:
Chani and I disagree on whether Spike could be the torturer. I think his comment in Never Leave Me, quoted for Chani below, shows more about his history than we saw on the show. As her fellow Spike maven (do you appreciate that word now?), do you think Spike could have done that torture? Does he deserve the mayhem the spoilers mention?

[> [> [> [> [> [> Re: All opportunities . . . -- Gemma, 12:05:05 11/08/03 Sat [1] (203.220.205.139)

I take it as I cause a rift in Spuffy ;) but sadly I think I'm about to cop a beatin' from someone..Can it at least be Spike?

The Spike of old..no not really. He did lots of mean things, most of them had a purpose. The spike name came from railway spikes that he use to kill many of the guys who made fun of him. Maybe if Dru was involved it could've been her as she hums..but isn't male. Maybe Spike did do it and she heard Dru humming..He did lots of evil things biut i don't think he's be this bad..at least i hope not it wipes out everything he done good while still a vamp.
As for deserving well in a fan's opinion no way in hell as it's probably the most sickening, hurtful, knife in the back for Spike fams from a writer that I've ever heard. as a mother I'd say grab the saw but only if you are sure he is the person who did it..

but he didn't do it. At the time that girl underwent her torture, Spike was with Dru. And I'm willing to bet some enterprising person can pinpoint just where they would have been in that timeframe.

However, based on his Never Leave Me speech, it seems he was more than capable of doing such a nefarious deed, and while he may not have been responsible for this girl's agony in particular, we could still get a good old-fashioned angstfest courtesy of Spike's remorse over OTHER girls he harmed that way.

Spike's hands are put into cold storage, ie - frozen. One would think therefore that W&H with all their mystic mojo, would be able to reattach them.

Consider it from an economic, out the story perspective. JM is Angel's 'big new draw'..they are not going to permanently maim the little nekkid man. (tm) before they've even hit episode 100.

Besides, he's getting screentime. And he will continue to get screentime.
Xander didn't even have that.

[> We all have to remember some key things here folks -- ChrissieLinnit*sorry Gem... I peeked*, 13:25:34 11/08/03 Sat [1] (81.136.150.36)

1. This is a new writing team writing Spike

2. JM has quite different ideas on what he'd like Spike to be, and what he perceives Spikes value is in the show than either the fans, or the writers who were writing him... this is an important point, I think, this time around, wheras it was of little significance over on BtVS because we (as in fans and JM) were all at the mercy of the writers.

3. David Greenwalt made a very interesting comment in a recent interview posted kindly by Simon a couple of weeks ago... and that was that the AtS writers had had (paraphrasing here) "a number of discussion with JM on the Spike character and his mover over to AtS..."

To me... that all added up to a whole other journey than the one we Spiffy/Spuffies all saw happening on BtVS... the actor always felt that the character was 'BAD', he never has, unless someone can correct me, stated that he believed Spike was on a path of redemption. Nor, I think, did any of the writing team... that vision, that journey has really been driven by the fans, and yes... I am diappointed. But, not surprised - yet...

Spoilers leaked this early, like these, are intended to fire fanbase passions, test the marketplace and excite the media. And, by golly, haven't they just...

I still haven't read the sides in detail, but from things I've heard from morgain and others, there are other, more 'difficult' and emotionally questionable, issues being raised in this episode. Now those, if they prove true at wildfeed time, will guarantee that I don't watch.

Hopefully, this is all ME and Network spin-doctoring of a really clever quality...

Keep the faith Gem... Joss hasn't let me down yet...

.. well, he has, 'cause I have publicly been begging him for months now to recruit me as the wardrobe mistress of the sock, and he has yet to say yes... *grrrr*

From a writer's point of view, a redeemed character is OVER. Boring. Done. Unless he's going to become the dad on 7th Heaven there is very little to write for a squeaky clean, totaally resolved Spike. The reason he is a ghost at this point is to give him something to resolve, to differentiate him from Angel and give him a reason to not be able to run off to find Buffy.

The hands thing may be to give Spike another problem to solve, if they have made him corporeal.

[ Post a Reply to This Message ][Edit]

[> [> [> I never saw this happen... I saw a journey start... never saw anyone redeemed, sorry -- ChrissieLinnit, 15:19:55 11/08/03 Sat [1] (81.136.150.36)

... and I've never seen Spike as a grest problem solver. A survivor maybe. A schemer, often.

But a thinker, planner or 'executer' of plans - never.

If he's up sh** creek without hands to paddle, it isn't Spike that's gonna get him out of that... it'll be whover decides he's worth rescuing...

If you don't see that as Buffy or Angel... I can only think of Fred... but, I don't see Fred finding a way to restore Spike's hands as exciting enough for sweeps.

Also... my understanding of eps so far, and discussions on the Red & Blue Boards, is that after LotP Spike is, to all intents and purposes corporeal again. No mention of how or why... he just is.

I'm not sure you understood what I meant. What I mean is that I think the reason the writers retconned Spike's character back to the snarky Spike of old is because of the draggy guilty soulled Spike of S7 who none of us liked. He was good. He was guilty. He was in the basement and he was dull!!!!! Riley was good, too. Very dull.

Not a good direction for the character or actors and not a lot for the writers to write. Luckily the writers discoverd he could have a soul and still be sarcastic.

As far as how I meant 'resolved.' I didn't mean that Spike was going to go out and be action man and solve his problems for himself, more in the sense of, a character needs to have a problem that needs to be resolved in order to have a storyline, something for the writers to write. I was not referring to anything about Spike's character at all. In no way commenting on the way in which he tackles problems.

I do see Spike as redeemed. Not rewarded, maybe, but redeemed. Anybody who gets a soul for the woman he loves and sacrifices himself to save the world has redeemed himself in my eyes.

[> [> Well...don't read if you don't want to be depressed -- Chani, 15:44:02 11/08/03 Sat [1] (212.198.0.93)

I have a fear...a big fear

I think that ME will keep the ambiguity about the identity of the Humming Man...

Why?

Because it's a way to make Spike fit in Ats world and to make him in accordance to its canon....in order to preserve the idea of Angel being the Hero.

The big issue was the soul and the fact that Soulless Spike has never been portrayed as evil as Angelus in BTVS (never into torture even in season 2) and has even managed to love and to choose a soul what Angelus couldn't do. Besides in s 7 BTVS Spike didn't seem that different from his soulless persona.

They cannot change the fact he chose to get his soul, but they need to balance again the journey between Angel the Hero and the other Vampire so they can suggest that soulless Spike might have been a vicious monster "before Buffy".

I said "suggest" because if Spike turned out to have been the Humming Man, able to torture a child during weeks, it would be too much for the Spike fans, and I don't think that ME wants to alienate them.

Of course if Spike appeared clearly not guilty (perhaps with the revelation he wasn't in LA then but in Europe), then Spike would kind of become a martyr because of the hands thing...I think that many Angel fans wouldn't accept that.

So I can see ME choosing the path of ambiguity and I really hate this idea!

I am not against Angel at all....I was against Spike going to Ats because I thought he didn't belong to that world, and I am against any way, ploy, trick to force this character in that world by destroying it.

I hope I'm wrong of course...tell me I am wrong, convince me please!!!!

[> You guys are taking it too seriously -- Joe Camel, 19:32:26 11/08/03 Sat [1] (66.26.136.204)

We all knew Spike was evil. He got his name from "torturing victims with railroad spikes," lest we forget that. As Angel's li'l protege, of course he'd know how to torture someone. I'm guessing he did it often and for fun.

His hands getting cut off is a METAPHOR. It looks like a metaphor, anyway, if it's not then it's just a random act of destruction, and it'll be rectified by the next episode. I mean, Angel got blown apart by like four shotgun blasts once and he just stood up and walked away.

But the slayer thing (plus Andrew) is a nice way to bring the Buffy cast over. It gives new Angel fans a chance to get the vampire slayer mythos without sounding too expository, and it gives Buffy fans a chance to see the characters responding to something that fits into their story.

All in all it sounds like an amazing hour of TV and I'm anxiously (anxiously, mind you) awaiting it.

[> Ok now that I've calmed down and am thinking semi-rationally.. -- Gemma - but also semi- clutching at straws-ally, 02:36:42 11/09/03 Sun [1] (203.221.6.43)

I still am unhappy about the spoiler but I think I know why. I have raised Spike up so much in my eyes that i sorta see him as one of the family i suppose that hearing this made me just as upset as if he were part of it.
I mean I can watch alot but I think this is the reason I have a problem with it.
So that said I've been trying to work a few things out

A) in spoilers I've read the slayer talks about head and heart..so why remove Spike's hands..Well for a long time Spike had often used his hand in comjunction with his head and his heart. It's in a way what connects the two for him. Alot of Spike is made up from what he uses his hands for MOst people use words to express their feeling through their mouths. Spike's more of an action guy. His hands speak for him more than anything. He fights with them..He wrote with them and he loved with them(ok and a few more parts but that's another story). In a way it'll be the second time Spike has been neutured in this way. When he was a ghost he couldn't do the same things that are an essential part of who he is and by doing this it happens again. The question is why and I think it's not just to stop him diddling his willy.
Is someone at W&H pulling strings to stop something happening..Why is it so important that Spike not be able to be whole? My theory is that it's someone who is trying to direct things to one outcome and one only and as nothing like this has happened to Angel I'm suggesting it's someone who wants something for Angel that Spike could possibly be in line for..Shanshu anyone..or there's the possibility that they knew Angel would feel bad working for W&H and by doing this to Spike are hoping to destroy the hopes(heart) and dreams(head) of them both. Is this person the same one who sent the amuletI don't think so i think that came from someone trying to stop the bad person's plan.
Another thing I thought of the humming man doesn't use words either but what could it be(if they are using a that and Spike's hands as a metaphor for not speaking out with words). What nees to be silenced and why?..or is the humming man the dark-haired Spike look alike?
Also in a way Fred will be playing Dr Frankenstien as I'm sure Spike will forever have huge scars like frankieboltin neckenstein had scars where he had things attached. NOw in a way Dr F played god by creating Franky..is this a clue to fred being the one who'll have to pay god at some stage and will that lead to her having to decide between life and death. Fred's already turned one person into being corporealised. Is she the key to bringing the shanshu into effect? And if so who would she choose and why?
There seems to be psychicness needed this eason too. The psychic lady shows up twice. She channels dead spirits like the slayer channels dead slayers. So why all the psychicness. I mean hey it sure would come in handy at times to understand why things are happening as they are. Is this maybe a hint towards Lornes role in all this?
OK now I'm even more confuzzled than before and hopefully you are too as it might leads in new directions of thought ;)
Note to self: must go to sleep when confused and not let weird things fill my mind all night

why I didn't want Spike on Angel..

In the end, I think I would have been happier with him dying than what I'm dreading they will do to him on Angel.

And can I just say: Why Andrew? *not that I dislike him* but why not Giles? I need my Giles fix..and none of that podGiles from season 7 either!

Called Light Fingers Dawny
But not cause she’s scrawny
She isn’t a skeleton key
With no problem from locks
She empties the stock’s
Not hard when everything’s free

In shadows Dawn lingers
her little light fingers
Just waiting on a chance to thieve
With a casual glance
She starts filling her pants
Her beauty distracts I believe

Hearing her high pitched squeal
You know she's found a steal
Like an antique charm or locket
Except for that one time
She screamed from the slime
Putting goldfish in her pocket

Hope you like it I'm somewhat happy with it, except I wanted to change the beauty line to have something to do with booty since it has two meanings but couldn't work it out

O where O where is Xander's arc?
Joss why have you left us in the dark?
You tried to palm us off with "He can see"
But how dumb do you really take us to be?

We've waited and waited to see what it is
But an arc went to every character but his
You gave him a storyline love with Anya
But you don't think that can sate us..Canya?

So from all the Xander fans out there
The lack of Xander's arc is hard to bear
To say his arc was saving Buffy
Well that remark just makes us huffy.

Now Joss I say Xander's non- arc it sucked
And all your writers should all get....plucked like chickens :)
Coz all they didn't give us what we long awaited
An arc for Xander that wasn't hated

Read it before it gets deleted :)

Thank you kindly :0) and you know I've looked for a lot of rhymes for Anya but missed Can-ya

Now this is true lament, I could almost see the Xander fans flagellating themselves to it, while he's far from being my most loved character I can still relate to the emotions of him not even getting an arc, Good on ya :0)

[> Well, not to inject too much real-life into our fiction, but... -- Girl Guide jones, 21:18:01 07/03/03 Thu (24.210.34.61)

...I'm not so certain we would have ever seen a full rape scene, even had JW, Marti & team written it. Anyone who's ever listened to JM talk about rape/doing the AR scene would probably agree.

JM says he's turned down every role he's ever been offered that contained a rape scene, and was shocked when he got the script for SR. He won't watch films or TV where it's portrayed, and still hasn't viewed the AR scene from SR.

I've listened to him speak on the subject five times now...(because people always ask)...and I believe that if ME had wanted an actual rape, JM would have balked. Even as it was written, it seems it was on a knife-edge balance of him quitting the show or playing the AR scene.

Just my opinion, for what it's worth, but I doubt we'd have ever seen Spike rape Buffy, unless they brought in another actor to do it.

Or maybe it was lack of a sturdy rubber bathmat. I'm not so sure that Buffy's bruisy back was the problem. I'm putting the blame where it belongs, cheap bathroom decorating.

rain song

This is the springtime of my loving - the second season I am to know
You are the sunlight in my growing - so little warmth I've felt before.
It isn't hard to feel me glowing - I watched the fire that grew so low.

It is the summer of my smiles - flee from me Keepers of the Gloom.
Speak to me only with your eyes. It is to you I give this tune.
Ain't so hard to recognize - These things are clear to all from
time to time.

Talk Talk - I've felt the coldness of my winter
I never thought it would ever go. I cursed the gloom that set upon us...
But I know that I love you so

These are the seasons of emotion and like the winds they rise and fall
This is the wonder of devotion - I see the torch we all must hold.
This is the mystery of the quotient - Upon us all a little rain must fall.

This one's a shoutout to my girl Anya.

I've got ninety thousand pounds in my pyjamas.
I've got forty thousand French francs in my fridge.
I've got lots of lovely lire.
Now the Deutschmark's getting dearer,
And my dollar bills would buy the Brooklyn Bridge.

There is nothing quite as wonderful as money.
There is nothing quite as beautiful as cash.
Some people say it's folly,
But I'd rather have the lolly.
With money you can make a splash.

There is nothing quite as wonderful as money.
Money, money, money, money.
There is nothing like a newly minted pound.
Money, money, money, money.
Everyone must hanker
For the butchness of a banker.
It's accountancy that makes the world go 'round.
'Round, 'round, 'round.

You can keep your Marxist ways,
For it's only just a phase,
For it's money, money, money makes the world go 'round.
...Money, money, money, money, money, money, money, money, moneeeeey!

[> A Spuffy song... kinda -- Lipbalm Addict, 22:31:11 05/26/03 Mon (206.217.148.117)

"plainclothes man" by Heatmiser

you're everybody's second home
always trying to get me alone
an easy way to lose it all
always there when all else fails
over by the west side rails

but i don't really need that now
i never really did anyhow
i only really needed alcohol
something that'll treat me okay
and wouldn't say the things you'd say

please turn out the light
i get a sick confusion headache trying to figure out who's right

dreaming on the silver strand
waking up to plainclothes man
you little bastard, little boy in blue
someone's gonna get to you
and f*** up everything you do

he's so unhappy inside
he's serious with everyone
and he thinks he'll win you with his angry kiss
acting like he has no needs
wanting you to watch him bleed

made for each other bet you pay me any mind
just goes to show my continual decline
they say that i'll recover my love of her once in a while
but i don't know
i don't think so

there's something that i'll tell you now
now that no one else is around
the sort of lesson that i learned from you
not quite the way you planned
but i know you'll understand

someone takes a photograph
a picture while their sweetheart laughs
a perfect moment in a flash of light
counting back from 3 to 1
that's exactly what you've done

and i'm so unsurprised
i remember, i remember why i dream in black & white

goes to show my continual decline
they say that i'll recover my love of her once in a while
but i don't know
i don't think so
i don't think so

[> OOO! Me me! -- Drake - Just a song I love..., 22:39:49 05/26/03 Mon (24.24.59.12)

"Anywhere" By Evanescence

Dear my love, haven't you wanted to be with me
And dear my love, haven't you longed to be free
I can't keep pretending that I don't even know you
And at sweet night, you are my own
Take my hand

We're leaving here tonight
There's no need to tell anyone
They'd only hold us down
So by the morning light
We'll be half way to anywhere
Where love is more than just your name

I have dreamt of a place for you and I
No one knows who we are there
All I want is to give my life only to you
I've dreamt so long I cannot dream anymore
Let's run away, I'll take you there

We're leaving here tonight
There's no need to tell anyone
They'd only hold us down
So by the morning light
We'll be half way to anywhere
Where no one needs a reason

Forget this life
Come with me
Don't look back you're safe now
Unlock your heart
Drop your guard
No one's left to stop you

Forget this life
Come with me
Don't look back you're safe now
Unlock your heart
Drop your guard
No one's left to stop you now

We're leaving here tonight
There's no need to tell anyone
They'd only hold us down
So by the morning light
We'll be half way to anywhere
Where love is more than just your name

[> And michelle steps up to the mic -- michelle~applauding~, 22:48:57 05/26/03 Mon (205.188.209.42)

This is for Spuffy and all those in love....

Love By Grace-Lara Fabian

I remember the rain on the roof that morning
And all the things that I wanted to say
The angry words that came from nowhere without warning
That stole the moment and sent me away
And you standing there at the doorway crying
And me wondering if I'd ever be back

I said I didn't come here to leave you
I didn't come here to lose
I didn't come here believing I would ever be away from you
I didn't come here to find out
There's a weakness in my faith
I was brought here by the power of love
Love by grace

And I remember the road just went on forever
Just couldn't seem to turn that car around
'Till in the distance like a long lost treasure
A phone booth that just could not be found
And you standing there at the doorway waiting
And the moment when we laid back down

Chorus

That was just a moment in time
And one we'll never forget
One we can leave behind
'Cause when there was doubt
You'll remember I said

I didn't come here believing I would ever be away form you
I didn't come here to find out
There's a weakness in my faith
I was brought here by the power of love
I was brought here by the power of love
Love by grace

"Iris" by The Goo Goo Dolls....

And I'd give up forever to touch you
Cause I know that you feel me somehow
You're the closest to heaven that I'll ever be
And I don't want to go home right now

And all I can taste is this moment
And all I can breathe is your life
And sooner or later it's over
I just don't want to miss you tonight

And I don't want the world to see me
Cause I don't think that they'd understand
When everything's made to be broken
I just want you to know who I am

And you can't fight the tears that ain't coming
Or the moment of truth in your lies
When everything feels like the movies
Yhea you bleed just to know you're alive

And I don't want the world to see me
Cause I don't think that they'd understand
When everything's made to be broken
I just want you to know who I am

[> "Fools" Deep Purple -- Falcifer, 22:54:27 05/26/03 Mon (63.191.9.211)

Fools
I'm crying I'm dying

I can see what's wrong with me
It's in my head
I can see what's gonna be
As I lie in my bed
Man is not my brotherhood
I am of the dead
I died as I lived as I loved and was born
On some distant hill
The reasons to hide were the reasons I cried
Fools pass laughing still

There can be bad blood in all I can see
It's in my brain
You don't know the pain I feel
As I must live again
Rocks and stones can't bruise my soul but
Tears will leave a stain
They smile to themselves as they lay down my head
On some distant hill
The blind and the child sweep a tear from their eye
Fools smile as they kill

I got my own way to go and now I want
To take your minds
I believe if you could see
The blood between the lines
I believe that you could be
A better kind
Please lead the way so the unborn can play
On some greener hill
Laugh as the flames eat their burning remains
Fools die laughing still

"'the sun is up, the sky is blue
there's not a cloud to spoil the view
but it's raining
raining in my heart

the weatherman says fine today
he doesn't know that you've gone away
and it's raining
raining, raining in my heart

oh, oh mistery, misery
what's gonna become of me

I tell myself, the blues won't show
but pretty soon all these tears will flow
raining, raining in my heart
oh, oh misery, oh misery
oh, what's gonna become of me

the sun is out, the sky is blue
there's not a cloud around to spoil the view
but it's raining, raining in my heart.'

ABM got me thinking 'bout S6 Spuffy, soo....

"Bed of Lies" by Matchbox 20

No I would not sleep in this bed of lies
So toss me out and turn in
And there'll be no rest for these tired eyes
I'm marking it down to learning
I am

Don't think that I can take another empty moment
Don't think that I can fake another hollow smile
It's not enough just to be sorry
Don't think that I could take another talk about it

Just like me you got needs
And they're only a whisper away
And we softly surrender
To these lives that we've tendered away

No I would not sleep in this bed of lies
So toss me out and turn in
And there'll be no rest for these tired eyes
I'm marking it down to learning
I am

Don't wanna be the one who turns the whole thing over
Don't wanna be somewhere where I just don't belong
Where it's not enough just be sorry

Don't you know I feel the darkness closing in
Tried to be more than me
And I gave till it all went away
And we've only surrendered
To the worst part of these winters we've made

No I would not sleep in this bed of lies
So toss me out and turn in
And there'll be no rest for these tired eyes
I'm marking it down to learning
I am

I am all that I'll ever be
When you - lay your hands
Over me but don't go weak on me now
I know that it's weak
But God help me I need this

I will not sleep in this bed of lies
So toss me out and turn in
And there'll be no rest for these tired eyes
I'm marking it down to learning
I'm marking it down to learning
'Cause I am

Oh it's been getting so hard
Livin' with the things you do to me, aha
Oh my dreams are getting so strange
I'd like to tell you everything I see
Oh, I see a man at the back
As a matter of fact his eyes are red as the sun
And a girl in the corner let no one ignore her
'Cause she thinks she's the passionate one

Oh, yeah, it was like lightning, everybody was frightening
And the music was soothing, and they all started grooving

Yeah, Yeah, Yeah, Yeah, Yeah
And the man at the back said
Everyone attack and it turned into a ballroom blitz
And the girl in the corner said
Boy, I wanna warn ya, it'll turn into a ballroom blitz
Ballroom blitz, ballroom blitz, ballroom blitz
Ballroom blitz

I'm reaching out for something
Touching nothing's all I ever do
Oh, I softly call you over
When you appear there's nothing left of you, aha
Now the man in the back
Is ready to crack as he raises his hands to the sky
And the girl in the corner is ev'ryone's mourner
She could kill you with a wink of her eye

Oh yeah, it was electric, so frightfully hectic
And the band started leaving, 'cause they all stopped breathing

Oh yeah, it was like lightning, everybody was frightening
And the music was soothing, and they all started grooving
It's it's a ballroom blitz, it's it's a ballroom blitz
It's it's a ballroom blitz, yeah, it's a ballroom blitz

[> So very very happy, in love with ABM, and singing about my darling... -- JSlayerUK, 23:19:58 05/26/03 Mon (195.93.48.14)

GoldenEye, Tina Turner...

See reflections on the water,
More than darkness in the depths,
See him surface in every shadow...
On the wind I feel his breath!

Goldeneyeeeeee,
I found his weakness
Goldeneyeeeeee,
He'll do what I please!
Goldeneyeeeeee,
No time for sweetness
But a bitter kiss will bring him to his kneeeeeees

You'll never knoooow how I watched you from the shadows as a chiiiiild!
You'll never knoooooow how it feels to be the one who's left behiiiii-iiii-iiind...
You'll never know the days, the nights, the tears, the tears I've cried!
But now my time has come
And time, time is not on your side!

Bah bah bah bah...

See him move through smoke and mirrors...
Feel his presence in the crowd
Other girls they gather around him
If I had him I wouldn't let him out!

Goldeneyeeeeeee, not lace or leather!
Golden chains take him to the spot
Goldeneyeeeeeee, I'll show him forever
It'll take forever to see what I've got!

You'll never knooooow how I watched you from the shadows as a chiiiild...
You'll never know how it feels to get so close and be deniii-iii-iiied
It's a gold and honey trap I've got for you tonight
Revenge it's a kiss, this time I won't miss
Now I've got you in my siiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiight!
With a Goldeneyeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee!
Golden, Goldeneyeeeeeeeeeeee!
With a goldeneyeeeeeeeeeee...
Goldeneyeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee!!!!!!!

I'm actually that loud and dancy right now... I'm going to wake up my whole house...

Snow can wait
I forgot my mittens
Wipe my nose, get my new boots on
I get a little warm in my heart
When I think of winter
I put my hand in my father's glove
I run off
Where the drifts get deeper
Sleeping Beauty trips me with a frown
I hear a voice:
"You must learn to stand up
For yourself
'Cause I can't always be around"

He says when you gonna make up your mind
When you gonna love you as much as I do
When you gonna make up your mind
'Cause things are gonna change so fast
All the white horses are still in bed
I tell you that I'll always want you near
You say that things change, my dear

Boys get discovered
As winter melts
Flowers competing for the sun
Years go by
And I'm here still waiting
Withering where some snowman was
Mirror, mirror
Where's the Crystal Palace
But I only can see myself
Skating around the truth who I am
But I know, Dad, the ice is getting thin

When you gonna make up your mind
When you gonna love you as much as I do
When you gonna make up your mind
'Cause things are gonna change so fast
All the white horses are still in bed
I tell you that I'll always want you near
You say that things change, my dear

Hair is grey
And the fires are burning
So many dreams on the shelf
You say I wanted you to be proud of me
I always wanted that myself

When you gonna make up your mind
When you gonna love you as much as I do
When you gonna make up your mind
'Cause things are gonna change so fast
All the white horses have gone ahead
I tell you that I'll always want you near
You say that things change, my dear
Never change
All the white horses

LA *sniff*

Evidently, the show picks up right after Spike dies - he appears in the White Room of W&H, wearing the amulet and breathing. But he's still very strong. It seems that because he was holding Buffy's hand when Willow started here joining spell, he got Slayer power too. So he's a human, male Slayer. Also, he may need to keep wearing the amulet to stay alive.

This is from what I saw posted here - I haven't been able to get into AICN to read it for myself.

i know eury...i don't know *what* would make me happy. like i said in one of the deleted threads...i think i wanted a slower and more subtle transition. which is exactly why joss will shove it right down my throat in the first scene. *smile*

Since some of you can't get into AICN, here's the scoop before it gets deleted:

Learn How Spike Returns To ANGEL??
I am – Hercules!!

Somebody forwarded us something purporting to be the first-draft teaser and first act of this autumn’s “Angel” season premiere. It could be the real deal, it could be the real deal with some fan-made changes, or it could be some fan’s complete fabrication.
But if it’s 100 percent fabricated, I can tell you this is the finest bit of fan fiction I’ve ever read. Mind you, there are a few slightly suspicious components – but if this turned out to be an actual first draft, Herc wouldn’t be overwhelmed with shock.
If it’s the real script, I will say it sounds like big fun and a swell start. And it’s festooned with major spoilers, so somebody better turn on the invisotext machine, pronto.
* The first characters we see are Buffy and Spike. It’s a flashback to Spike’s final moments over the Sunnydale hellmouth. Spike goes all bright and dusty, then:
* The first new scene is set in Wolfram & Hart’s “White Room.” It’s somebody’s point of view. Somebody on his or her back. Winifred, Charles and Wesley are all peering down. None of the trio has ever seen this mystery-person before, but Wes seems to have a pretty good idea who it is. Angel arrives and eliminates any abmbiguity with a single-word: “Spike.” No more POV. Spike naked save a familiar-looking amulet, turns groggily toward Angel and mutters, “Oh … bloody hell.” He hear a violin and the title credits roll.
* Actually, before the big reveal, the first thing we hear in the White Room POV shot is heavy breathing. But when we see Team Angel hovering, none of them seems to be breathing very hard.
* When Angel offers Spike a cup of blood in the law firm’s examination room, Spike says he actually feels like a chocolate shake.
* The second Spike learns Buffy survived the big doings in what used to be Sunnydale, he starts off to find his true love. But Angel won’t let him leave until he can figure out why Spike is still alive. “Oh reeaaly?” asks Spike. “And are we sure that’s the reason now?” Angel also wants the amulet back, since it’s technically Wolfram & Hart property. A big Spike-Angel fight ensues.
* There is much shattering of law-firm glass. As the Spike-Angel fight grows more intense, Angel goes into vamp-face. Spike tries to do the same, but finds he can’t!
* Angel manages to yank the Amulet away from Spike. Spike begins gasping and turning blue. “Angel, the amulet,” cries Wesley. “I think he needs it. He’s dying.” Angel hesitates, but Fred reminds Angel that Spike just finished saving the world.
* Angel returns the amulet and Spike’s complexion immediately turns rosier. “His breathing is returning to normal,” advises Wes. “‘Breathing?’” asks Fred.
* Angel rips a giant mirror from the wall. He can’t see himself in it, but Spike casts a reflection!
* Lilah turns up with Spike’s blood test. The DNA matches what the Initiative took out of Hostile 17 four years ago, but the amulet seems to have “cleansed” the vampire right out of Spike. He’s all human now!
* Wes remembers the Shanshu prophecy. “When that a souled vampire fulfills his destiny – whatever that may be – he becomes human.”
* But if Spike’s human, why is so strong, and able to fight Angel so effectively? Wes remembers speaking to Willow by phone about the “joining spell” that turned all the potentials into slayers. “So when the cleansing began,” asks Lilah, “did you – I dunno – touch Buffy?” Spike answers in the affirmative, flashing back to the fiery hand-holding.
* And then, at the end of this first act, Lilah and Wes come to the same conclusion – and reveal one last amazing thing about this new Spike:
* He’s now the world’s first male vampire slayer.

Hi all. That was a fun read, but I think it's just fanfic. It just seems way too early for there to be a first draft of the script out yet. They don't usually do that until July. It's only the end of May. Heck, BtVS just ended last week. Didn't Tim Minear say they wouldn't begin planning out the S5 story until June? Sorry, but this just looks like wishful thinking. But it was a nice idea though. It's just way too early for it to be taken seriously.

Actually, I agree with you. But I know that sometimes the higher ups want an early draft of what's being planned when there's a major change in a show. Have no idea what's happening here, just that I've seen it happen elsewhere.

I'm just loving it while I can :)

Spikes already got the vampire thing. If they make any male slayers, it should be Xander.

I SO hope this is a foiler. Otherwise it looks like we're in for the Spike show part deux.

As for these spoilers, isn't it too early for them to be coming out?

BTW, I think ANY scenario is going to look like the Spike Show part deux. They have to spend some time explaining his coming back to life or else it wouldn't make sense. But maybe they'll deal with it in the first few episodes and move on. While the male slayer thing sounds dorky, it might be a smart way to go: it would deal with JM's age and still let Spike have his powers.

just a thought

If you want to make Xander a male Slayer, go right ahead. More than likely, the writers will concentrate on the characters that actually still exist.

Anyway, no point in being upset about this "spoiler" - nobody's taking it seriously.

My point is that Spike already has enough and that it wouldn't be fair, or make sense for that matter, to give him yet another original bit.

If they wanted to do the male slayer thing, they could have done it on Buffy. That way they could have made Xander a male slayer. Or even introduced a new male character.

[> Agree with Little Bit -- shadowkat (delurking), 00:39:43 06/01/03 Sun (65.229.113.212)

I think it's a fabrication or at least partially one.

1. Willow did finish the joining spell way way before Spike's amulet went into effect. The potentials became slayers at least ten-fifteen minutes prior to that. Remember Buffy's face-off with The First took place after the potentials were empowered?

Now, I suppose we could fanwank this, but it just seems a bit far-fetched for Spike to get it by touching Buffy.

2. Spike didn't disappear he became ash. When the ashes fell to the earth, so did the amulet and the light went out so no, don't see how he could still be wearing it logically.

Again I suppose we could fanwank it.

Uhm regarding male vampire slayers - wasn't Connor one?
So if it did happen Spike would certainly not be close to the first - of course since Wes has forgotten Connor's existence, maybe he'd think so. But if it did happen?
It would serve as a perfect foil for Angel - sort of a Robin to Angel's Batman, or Wolverine to Batman? (shrug)
I wouldn't worry about it being the Spike show at any rate for two major reasons:

1. The writers are changing Angel to a more episodic format as opposed to serial in keeping with shows like West Wing, ER, and The Practice - so no one character takes center stage all the time.

2. On Btvs - Spike was the romantic lead for a show that was all about Buffy's journey - all her boyfriends got lots of focus (Riley, Angel...) Unless you think they are going to make Angel gay...somehow I doubt Spike will be Angel's.
Also Angel is a little less centered on just one character.
And it's still Angel's show.

Anyways just my two cents before the thread gets deleted.

Well i'm sure spike will be on the show and it does sound great if he could be a male slayer. It would really upset angel we already get that he doesn't like spike being with buffy. thats way he tryed to take the amulet away from him. Which is spike. Angel gave it to buffy and she gave it to spike. Looks like Angel might be a sore loser. But besides that he is really going to be mad at losing the chance of being human. That was his chance right there. If he only used it and not let buffy give it to spike he might have been a human with slayer powers then he would have been able to get buffy. spike being on the show will always remind of what he lost.

well it does it matter because the story is false. Hello people spiektouched buffy like 15 mins after willow did her spell and all the girls got there slayer power. So touching her after would would do nothing. people look at the facts

The Story…

Prologue

“Buffy, what are we gonna do now?” questioned Dawn, more for affect than anything else. A smile crept its way across her sister’s face. With a sudden shake she fell to the ground, her eyes closed and her smile fading.

“Oh my God! Buffy! Buffy, wake up!” cried Willow, falling beside her comrade and shaking her shoulders. Faith swooped down beside Buffy and lifted her up, as a trail of blood dripped from Buffy’s stomach wound, increasing the size of the puddle left where her body had once lain.

With a thump she dropped her onto a seat in the bus as Willow looked at the wound and did her best to scab it over, unable to fully heal it with her weakened powers. She ripped open the First Aid box and wrapped gauze around the gash and tightened it, and soon collapsed herself, falling to the floor.

“Willow!” cried Kennedy, and rushed over to help. Willow gave a nod to Kennedy as she lifted her up and set her in the seat in front of Buffy’s, letting her rest to regain her strength.

Faith walked shakily over to Robin, still resting in the driver’s seat. Easing herself to the ground beside him she watched as his breathing remained constant – still alive. She glanced around the rest of the bus at the other Slayers, already feeling the cons of their newly-activated powers.

Rona was injured badly and bleeding while Vi tried to tend to her wounds. Kennedy watched Willow to make sure she stayed conscious, while Willow was more focused on Buffy remaining alive. Dawn and Xander remained baffled as to what they should do, trying to make sure everyone stayed calm. The countless others were dropping like flies from the mortal wounds now felt because of the lack of adrenaline.

A single tear began to make its way down Faith’s cheek as she quickly rubbed it away. She slowly stood up, ready, once again, to take command in Buffy’s place. She opened her mouth to speak when a brilliant light shined through the bus.

Faith fell on her bottom as the bus shook and a loud voice invaded her head, its message incoherent. With an even brighter flash Faith became unconscious and disappeared into darkness.

Chapter 1
A World Remade

It’s not over.

With a rush Buffy woke up in the bus. Everyone else remained unconscious as she eased herself up from the seat, wincing at the pain from her stomach wound. She crawled over the bodies sprawled on the floor and exited the bus.

She slowly made her way to the edge of used-to-be-Sunnydale before she heard Faith call out to her. “What’s up, B? You got any answers on what just happened in there, ‘cause last thing I remember was fallin’. Can’t count how many times that’s happened to me,” smiled Faith. “And judgin’ that everyone seems to have collapsed, and not just some of us, I’m assumin’ it’s not just from exhaustion.”

“It’s the First,” answered Buffy, turning back around to look at the crater.

“The First? What do you mean?” asked Faith.

“I…uh…I’m not sure…why, exactly. I mean, I’m not sure why you all were unconscious, since apparently it visited just me, but…I don’t know,” she concluded.

“B…you all right?” wondered Faith, brushing the First aside.

“I don’t know anymore, Faith. I don’t think I ever knew,” started Buffy, tears began to creep the edges of her eyes.

“Oh, Buffy. You’ve gotta pull yourself together, okay? There are a lot of new Slayers out there and they need your help.”

“What good could I do them though? Seriously, Faith. Look at what ‘good’ I did here today! I led a bunch of girls into a disaster. We closed one Hellmouth, but didn’t even win the battle, let alone the war,” said Buffy, making it obvious that the First had got to her.

“What? You don’t call this a win? You said so yourself, in war there are sacrifices, and sure there are casualties, but Buffy, look at what we did. I mean…we closed a Hellmouth!” tried Faith, pointing out at the large hole in the ground.

“But it doesn’t mean anything!” lashed Buffy. Calming herself she continued, “We…I destroyed the lives of these girls. Many were brutally killed down there, more are dying up here, and even more will never be the same again! And for what? Huh? So I could close one spot in probably thousands? So that the thing we were trying to stop is still roaming free, and not only that, but doesn’t seem hindered at all?”

“B…”

“No, Faith. Don’t say anything.”

A few moments of silence and Buffy finally spoke up, “I don’t know.”

*-*

“So, the First is still active and probably already drawing up plans for its next attack,” summarized Giles.

“We got that. What I wanna know is what do we do?” asked Faith.

“Well, we’ve gotta rally the troops, get everyone on board again. If trouble’s a-brewin’ we’re gonna need a lot of Sla—“ started Xander.

“No,” whispered Buffy. “There’s no more taking these girls into action. They’re done. They’re fight is over.”

“So what then? Who’s gonna fight this?” asked Robin.

“I don’t know,” Buffy whispered more.

“You know, there’s a little bit too much of that goin’ on with you,” stated Kennedy.

“Kennedy…” tried Willow.

“No. Come on! Are you all gonna be duped again? We’re going to war still and she wants to let the army go. I’m sorry, but once you’re drafted your resigned to your fate,” continued Kennedy.

“Kennedy, shut up!” demanded Willow, casting a glare at her. Kennedy was taken aback by the outburst but shut her mouth anyway, giving a huff to let everyone know she wasn’t pleased.

“Buffy…” yearned Giles.

“Stop looking to me for answers, Giles. I’m lost. I gave it my all, I tried to lead. I ended up with a mass of dead girls, a hole in the ground, and a power greater than anything we’ve ever known extremely pissed off with us. With me,” she declared.

“Wait a minute here. You’re saying these deaths are meaningless? That these girls put their lives on the line for nothing? That these brutal murders weren’t for some good? That Spike’s down there in a pile of dust for zero happiness?” demanded Xander. “That Anya didn’t give her life for anything?”

The group quieted and even Kennedy felt her heart begin to ache. Buffy spoke up, “Exactly.”

“What?!” screamed Xander, jumping to his feet and putting his face inches from Buffy.

“Don’t you see, Xander?” Buffy continued, “Anya did it all in vain. So did Spike. Her death, his death – all their deaths – all for nothing. She’s lying somewhere in that crater, and for what? So the First could continue on its plan in another Hellmouth?”

Xander’s face turned red as he struggled not to raise his clenched fist, and Buffy looked away – afraid to look anyone in the face.

“So what do you suppose we do, B? Sit here and wait for the world to end? The world we, and now all these other girls, were chosen to protect? Chosen,” said Faith. “We weren’t just randomly picked, B. We were chosen for this gig. And so were those girls.”

“And when has fate ever been kind in the past? Think about it Faith, have you really enjoyed having your destiny selected by you for some few men thousands of years ago? Do you enjoy not having the choice to live a normal life? You said we get to live like normal, but we’re still alone. We’ll always be alone,” stated Buffy, standing up and heading towards the exit of the bus.

“What if we do,” mumbled Dawn. Buffy stopped and turned to look at Dawn, along with everyone else. “What if we do give them the choice? I mean, you have a point Buffy, if we force these people to join our fight, more than they already are, then how much better than those men does it make us?”

“A choice?” asked Faith, realizing Dawn’s point.

“So here’s what we do, here’s how we keep the good fight goin’: We head off to…Cleveland or wherever, and we take those who want to come. I say we start the choice with us. Who comin’?” asked Willow, raising her hand.

Dawn’s hand immediately went up with Kennedy’s. Faith and Robin raised their hands too. Xander calmed down and raised his hand. Xander turned to Buffy and waited for her to raise her hand, when suddenly Andrew’s hand shot up. A smile crossed his face and Xander’s.

“Okay, we’ll go. But I’m not raising my hand, you all look like a bunch of dorks,” said Buffy, turning to leave the bus, mumbling behind her, “I need to just start carrying a camera with me everywhere.”

*-*

Buffy tried to quiet the girls as she arranged them together for a meeting.

“Amazing how loud a group of six girls can be, hey B?” smiled Faith.

“All right. Let’s get down to the matter at hand. The First is still out there,” Buffy paused, expecting mutterings, but the girls remained quiet, awaiting her to finish. “Okay…I guess you already figured that. You’re all Slayers now, and that makes you a part of an army, whether you want to be in it or not, you were drafted.

“Now, you can continue to be scared, and you can continue to run from an unfair destiny…or, you can look at yourself as special. Extraordinary. You weren’t just randomly picked, but you were chosen for this ‘gig,’” continued Buffy, flashing a smile at Faith. Faith started to say something but eased herself back down, letting Buffy steal her words.

“So here’s my point. We’re going after the first, following it to the ends of the earth if we have to. Which, hopefully, we don’t, but hey, us chosen have gotta do what we gotta do. What I’m trying to say is, you may have been drafted into being a Slayer, but here’s your choice: go with us, or go home.”

The girls remained quiet as they let their choice soak in. Vi stood up and walked over to Buffy to stand beside her. Rona eased herself up and started to hobble over to Buffy before Vi ran over and helped her over. The remaining girls lowered their heads in shame.

“Don’t be ashamed. Years ago I would have taken the same path you’re taking now. Just don’t forget the proud heritage you share with us, and with many more powerful women in the past. Thank you for staying with us this far, even if it was only out of fear,” Buffy said through tears, giving a quick nod to Willow.

A few quick mumbles under her breath and Willow disappeared in a cloud of smoke, along with the other Slayers. A few minutes later she returned, exhausted once again, and her eyes dark, black pools.

*-*

“I noticed you didn’t raise your hand. I must say I’ve gotten used to your goodbyes,” Buffy pointed out to Giles. He was sitting alone at the edge of the Hellmouth, and Buffy had come to sit beside him.

“I’m afraid I’m still in this battle Buffy, but I won’t be going with you. I’ve decided to return to the Coven. There has to be something I can do there, either searching for Slayers or open Hellmouths. It seems to be Research-mode for me,” huffed Giles. “That and I didn’t want to look like a ‘dork.’”

“I don’t know what to do Giles. In case you haven’t noticed, I’m not a good leader. I lead girls to their deaths, and ultimately others die to sacrifice their lives to save this world, while all I do is stand around and guffaw,” she said.

“Guffaw, that’s a new one…Buffy, it isn’t that you’re a leader. It’s not that you’re supposed to be a leader either. You do what you must, you’ve realized your path and you’ve decided to follow it. You’re an extraordinary woman, Buffy,” Giles pulled her close for a hug.

Buffy closed her eyes and rested her head on his shoulder.

Willow laid down in the back of the school bus, reaching deep in her subconscious for a glimmer of hope, anything to ease the pain. She tried to feel the emotions coursing through her, the breath, the love, but she couldn’t. It was gone. She began to cry to herself, missing her more than ever.

*-*

“All right, here’s where we split,” said Buffy, looking around at the remaining faces. “Giles is going back to England to reach the Coven and find any information we can on the First, Slayers, or any other open Hellmouths.

“Xander and Andrew, you’re going with me. We’re gonna go find these other Hellmouths and see what we can do, as well as recruit any willing Slayers along the way. I think our first stop is gonna be Cleveland.

“Faith, you’re taking Robin, Vi, and Rona with you to find more recruits. Hopefully as some of the newest Slayers you can have an impact and get these girls to go with us. We’re gonna need all the help we can get.

“Willow, I want you to take Kennedy and Dawn and find out as much information as you can. You have the most important job, and you have it for a reason: because you can get it done. And also, because you can get us to somewhere with transportation? I’d rather not walk across America…”

In another grasp of dust clouds Willow disappeared with Giles, returning seconds later. She nodded to Buffy as she muttered more words and disappeared with Faith and her group. She returned once more and took Buffy’s group.

Buffy, Xander, and Andrew reappeared in a tight bathroom. Groping around, Buffy finally found the door handle and turned the knob to open the door. Xander and Andrew fell out on top of each other as a family turned to stare at them. Glancing around Buffy realized they were in a car rental shop.

“No prob Buffy, gotta credit card,” smiled Xander, quickly standing up and leaving Andrew to get himself up.

“Don’t worry people, everything is okay,” said Andrew, nodding happily to the family as they turned away.

*-*

“Good night guys!” yelled Buffy, slamming the door in Xander and Andrew’s faces.

Turning to look at each other they nodded. They turned and walked down the balcony until they reached the door with the number 12 engraved on it. Xander turned the knob and opened it, as Andrew ran in, “I get the right bed!”

Xander grazed his hand along the wall until he brushed the light switch on. Andrew stopped in his tracks and stared at the single twin bed glaring at them from the middle of the room. Xander let out a sigh.

After kicking the television several times to get it on Xander crawled into bed next to Andrew and they both stared at the ceiling. After a few moments of silence Xander finally spoke, “So, uh. Anya. She was awesome?”

“Uh-huh.”

“I’m proud of her, you know. I mean, we weren’t actually together, but we’ll always have that connection. Glad to hear that she fought to the end,” Xander said.

A few more moments of silence ensued until Andrew decided to talk. “Hey Xander, I was just curious, but a while back you made that comment after that demon-girl tried to kill you—“

“Good night, Andrew,” said Xander quickly, turning away and closing his eyes.

“Oh. Uh. Good night,” said Andrew, turning the other way and closing his eyes.

*-*

Kennedy mumbled a short sentence in her sleep, stirring the covers and taking up more space than she needed. Dawn lay in the other bed by herself, snoring rather loudly. Willow sat in the corner by herself, tears streaming down her face.

She jumped as a hand touched her shoulder. She opened her eyes and gazed into Dawn’s. “Willow, what happened, what’s wrong? Should I wake Kennedy?” asked Dawn.

“Shh. No,” Willow quieted Dawn, calming her own nerves as well. She took a couple of breaths to try and show she would be okay, but Dawn wouldn’t fall for the act and continued to sit on the edge of the bed and stare at her.

“Willow, what’s wrong?” she prodded.

“I…uh…it’s nothing really. I mean, I just stubbed my toe on my way to the bathroom. It’s nothing,” Willow tried again, starting to stand up.

Dawn pushed her down, “Willow, for the last time, what happened.”

“Tara,” Willow spilled suddenly, then hushed her mouth.

“Tara,” said Dawn, her eyes already starting to well up. “What do you mean, Tara?” she kept pressing.

“Dawnie…”

“No, Willow, what is it with Tara. Tell me…please,” begged Dawn.

“I felt her, Dawn. When I did that spell to make the Slayers active, I felt the history and life of every woman throughout their existence, not just Slayers,” cried Willow. “And only one life mattered for a few moments. Tara’s. I felt her, she was a part of me, she was me, more than she ever had been.”

“Willow, it’s all right to miss her,” tried Dawn.

“No, you don’t understand. I don’t miss her, I want her, I need her. She needs me, I felt it. It’s not all chalked up to magic. We had a bond that extended beyond that, and we connected again, and I have to get her back,” said Willow.

“There’s no way though, you already tried. She died a death of human causes…and Kennedy’s here for you now,” continued Dawn.

“You don’t understand Dawn. She’s there. She wants to come back. I need her to come back. There has to be a way,” finished Willow.

Subject: Retro Buffy Discussion: "School Hard"....topic : Spike, Life, and Juggling

Retro Buffy Discussion Wednesday. Today we look at the episode "School Hard." Remember to follow board rules and to no bashing of characters. RBT is a time to re-watch BTVS. We watch the eps Tuesday night at 8, and talk about them each Wed. Eps are viewed just as they would have been when they first aired....starting with S1, ep1.

Episode: School Hard
Topic: Spike

So this is the grand introduction for a certain vampire, (actualy 2 vampires) that will severely alter the course of the series; Spike and Drusilla. Granted, the arrive during a turbulent week for Buffy. Isn't that how it always is though, just when you don't need anymore to happen, one more thing seems to pile on? Nevertheless, the arrival of Spike and Drusilla yield changes for our heroine, and for all involved in her life.

This episode was really nothing more than a "set up" episode. Oh sure, there were the elimates we see in each BTVS episode...the scoobies working together in research, we see the further romance of Giles and Jenny, we see Cordelia and her sarcasm and brutality (but also her increasing involvement in the SG). We see The center piece for the episode....school, and how Buffy is constantly being watched and reprimanded by Snyder. In truth though, this ep really operates on two fronts. First, the obvious "school hard" situation, where Buffy tries to convince Snyder she isn't a trouble maker and keep her Mom from finding out she has "issues" with school. This is merely a mask for the real story (2nd) to introduce us all to Spike and Drusilla......ultimately what I think to be the purpose of this ep.

The episode shows how Buffy must balance her friends, her school, her mom, and her slaying.........all important aspects that lead to Buffy's near breakdown at the end of S2. These are important factors and the episode properly brings them out into the open! We continue to see how the stress builds on Buffy, we see how it wears her down, and we can almost "feel" what it would be like to have to balance those issues (some of us balance similar roles daily, and my hat goes off to you). While this episode gives us a more specific glimpse as to the pressure Buffy endures, it doesn't go into too much detail or allow Buffy to breakdown. This episode gives us a taste of what life is like, what reality is like, and whats its like for many of us who have to juggle daily. Whether it be kids, jobs, bills, employees, employers, bookeeping, or athletics and school...this ep reminds us Buffy is a teenager and a student/daughter in addition to being the slayer.

"School Hard" gives us more than that though, it gives us Spike and Drusilla. A truly dynamic couple that really changed the scenery in Sunnydale and on the show. The two have charisma, flare, and ties to Angel. They give us more detail about Angel, they give us new bad guys, bad guys we loved to hate at the time (but also bad guys we had to love). They are intriguing, mysterious, a little crazy (Dru), and down right evil anc cocky. Who would have guessed Spike would become a permanent picture in the BTVS and AtS series'? Ships aside, Spike is a great character and really helped to add to the show, as much for JM's acting as Spikes own journey. Spike represents what we all want to be (at least guys) from time to time. The leather jacket wearing, arrogant, romantic, fighter that gets the girl on his terms and does things "his way." This episdoe brings us Spike (and Dru who is just as intriguing) to the show, and does it in style. I mean, what better way to make an entrance than to have a black chevy drive over the "Welcome to Sunnydale" sign. Great writing.

I really like this ep cause it was a fun episode. It had humor amidst caos, and spike was a large part of that. I enjoyed the SG scenes, and Angel/Buffy flirts going on. Loved Cordy and Willow in the closet (HA) and the wit with Mrs. Calendar to Giles ("You realy must read something published after 1062"). Spikes one liners, his poetry, his bad ass Billy Idol "rebel yell" attitude, Drusilla's "craziness," Xander and Angel's scene in the battle (great stuff between the two people that really hate each other), and the care that Joyce and Giles show Buffy. Its all good stuff, and this episode starts down a little different road, demonstrating that Buffy must come to terms with all the juggling she is having to do....just not yet. Its funny, Spike is one that helps her (in a small way) come to terms, and his intro was very important to the series, obviously.

So what are some of your thoughts on this episode.?? I know you all had to love Spike, but what did you think about the "juggling life" I mentioned in regards to Buffy and to us all? Do you think S2 was so good because it addressed issues like that, but not as painfully (until Becoming part II) as S6? Let me know what you think.

I agree the episode does a great job of highlighting the demands placed on Buffy by her mom, her principal, and her Watcher. I like the way it allows Joyce to start the slow process of coming to see just what is different about her strange daughter. One advantage Buffy had, though she'd deny it, was that she had a gift she could use to help make the world a better place. At an age when many teens have no clue what their life is about, she had a clear picture of her purpose even if she chafed against the restrictions of it.

Now, concerning Spike, it's fun to watch the episode knowing how his arc eventually develops. Wittingly or not, JM establishes a connection between Spike and the Slayer early on beyond just that between mortal enemies.

The final scene with the Annointed sums up what Spike and Dru brought to the series. They began a depiction of gleeful evil that carried over into Angelus, the Mayor, and Glory. To me, the less effective "Bads" over the years (Adam, Willow, the Master, and the First Evil) come up short in part because they don't exhibit the "fun side of evil" that Spike and Dru did.

But I agree about the purpose you pointed out, and the "School Hard" pattern.

As for Spike & Dru...

There was something different about those two, you could see it as soon as they appeared on screen. Their couple was unique, Dru was special and intriguing because of her madness, Spike was the one who broke the doors, the rules, the Welcome to Sunnydale sign...who killed the "Annoying One" instead of submiting.

And I agree with Sharky, the first B/S scene when he watched her dancing and later in the alley, or in the High School really set an unusual connection between those mortal enemies, but I don't think it's only JM that did it...Compare Buffy's behaviour with Spike to her behaviour with Luke in season 1 for instance!

[> Wonderful review merrick and great thoughts Sharkey -- Pixi, 15:41:50 02/04/04 Wed [1] (207.30.202.147)

Pretty hard to find anything wrong with this episode. So, so much fun. Good point about Spike right away making a connection with Buffy. And you know - I got that romantic vibe right away because any girl who has read even one romance novel in her life knows that when the gal meets the guy that she will eventually end up with they always hate each other at first sight and verbally spar while they are subliminally attracted. I got that vibe.

As for the juggling - yes it did show how difficult life can be. As a master juggler myself and the parent of munchkins who juggle work, dance class, school work, church and home chores - I know it isn't easy. Not for the parents or for the children. But you're right - it was easy for Buffy to at least know her life path because the teen years are all about trying to find the path aren't they?

Ahhh - just a wonderful ep. And so fun to see the annoying one gone - I hate with a fiery passion when child actors are miscast. I adored Jack in The Shining but that kid -the hero of the story - Danny who should shine - oh how I hated the kid they cast. (not personally he just wasn't right for the part). And the annoying one - just seemed bratty to me - never evil.

[> Buffy the Conformist versus Spike the Nonconformist -- Still Dancing, 15:57:20 02/04/04 Wed [1] (199.35.130.165)

Not much time before I have to leave to pick up my son at school, but I wanted to add a thought.
I agree that this episode shows Buffy struggling with balancing her perceived responsibilites and trying to satisfy everyone's expectations for her and her expectations for herself. She wants so desperately to fit in, to have a 'normal' life, to please others. This certainly reaches crisis proportions in Season 6. Here she still juggles fairly adeptly. Notice, though, that when Joyce and Snyder try to stop her Buffy goes her own way.
When Spike arrives in Sunnydale, he 'goes through the motions' of trying to fit into the established hierarchical vampire system of the Annointed/Annoying one that was the Master's legacy. This is doomed from the start. Quickly and by the end of the episode he completely loses patience and shows his disgust by killing the Annoying One. "From now on, we'll have a little less praying and a lot more fun"-or words to that effect. Spike related to individuals and not to groups. His meeting and posturing with Angel reveals their close former relationship. Mentor/student and rivals. Spike speaks in his usual snarky way of his sense of betrayal and abandonment by Angel. I'm out of time, so I'll just close by saying that Spike's fascination with Buffy, whether as prey, opponent or woman, is shown from their first 'dance'.

[> Great weekly post Merrick...thanks -- toothy, 17:01:53 02/04/04 Wed [1] (209.240.205.63)

I agree with all that's been said.

I also liked the way Joss developed small part characters like the stoner girl. Who can ever forget Snyder's "gangs on crack" attitude.

I do have one problem with Joss and this ep has one of those moments.

Do you know what I'm talking about? If I said "sugar?", would you understand where I'm going.

Joss said early on that he wanted to change perceptions of the helpless blonde in the alley. Fine, he did that. Made a super hero out of the little girl. But I wish he had gone further. He continued to stereotype Buffy as the dumb blonde. He didn't have to make her a rocket scientist, and many times Buffy was the one to sus out the problem, but Joss took the easy way out by portaying as funny, a stupid Buffy. I remember the uproar when a "Barbie" doll, the girl's GiJoe, introduced a model which said when the string was pulled, "Math is Hard".

If Joss ever does another slayer series, I hope he leaves this sterotype in the perverbial vampire dust bin.

Sorry for that, rant over.

'School Hard' was BTVS at it's best

[> Nice thread -- ARN - not so much to say, 17:19:45 02/04/04 Wed [1] (81.51.246.219)

thanks everyone. Was a nice thread I enjoyed reading it.

I like this episode very much, and I agree with the posters who pointed out the scheme "conformism versus anticonformism".

But for me the ultimate anti-conformist scene is not when Spike kills the Anointed one, because frankly, we all expected that someone would do that !!!

For me it's when Joyce hit Spike hard with an axe and Spike said something like : Women !!! Our sweet Joyce using an axe... that was amazing.

[> One of the defintive points of decline for the series. -- vampyr64, 17:28:03 02/04/04 Wed [1] (63.157.156.12)

You asked for our thoughts on the ep and so here they are. I admit, at the time I was rather fond of the episode. It didn't particularly stand out in any way for me, other then a pretty good Xander scene, but it fit well in the fabric of the show. However, looking back I can clearly see the seed of discord being planted in this episode. Spike. The introduction of the character altered the series, and not I feel for the better. This is of course a case of a seemingly harmless incident having dire consequences down the road.

The introduction of Spike himself was harmless, other then that some people believed he and the slayer shared some deep connection from the start. Whatever. The point is that because Spike was introduced the pandoras box was opened that eventually brought about the essential retcon of the entire Buffy universe. My biggest complain here is that certain people claim Spike was different, more human from the getgo and yet he needlessly murders a man that he feels is too old to feed on. That doesn't show an ounce of differen, IMO.

If you want to see a good example of how to show a character as different from the rest of his evil kin, I recommend reading R.A. Salvatore's 'The Dark Elf Trilogy'. Here you see a character who, from the moment he was born was shown to be different from the rest of his kind Setting up impassible barriers and then later destroying them with the use of the magical writers fiat is not a good way to tell a story.

JMHO.

I wasn't bashing the character. The author of the post asked for opinions of the ep, and I feel that the most important thing the episode did was introduce Spike.

Sadly, Spike is, like the other characters, a victim of the writers. You can't put all of the blame for what happened on his shoulders.

To be truthful, the show didn't truly start declining until season 4. And as good as the eps up till then are, when I watch them I feel rather like I'm watching the Titanic sail out of port on its maiden voyage. Impressive, even awe-inspiring. But ultimately doomed by the twisted machinations of its own creators.

As for why the show lasted so long; well its pretty much the same reason that reality tv shows are so popular whereas shows like Jake 2.0 are cancelled the first season. Simply put, people today aren't exactly the brightest candle on the wall.

There are many reasons why Buffy lasted seven seasons (and could have lasted longer), but the audience and the fans being too stupid to recognise the inferior quality is not one of them.

Whatever problems you have with the show, the least you could do is respect those who like the show. Or at the very least the people you post among.

No insult intended. If you pay attention to my words you will see that I said 'people'. Individuals themselves tend to be at least decently intelligent. However, it is a proven fact that when you group them together the intelligence level drops.

As for my 'insulting' of the fans; it was directed more towards the cancelling of the show I mentioned then at the fans of Buffy. I was merely stating an oddity in the world of tv entertainment.

Since I always thought that the intelligent bunch here raised the game for each other :-)

I don't really understand your last point though, mainly due to the comparison between Buffy and reality shows. There are a glut of reality shows on primarily because many of them get high ratings. Buffy has never really had high ratings, so I didn't see too much of a comparison, and so any reason as to why they were on the air would be different IMO.

The intelligence level of a group can only drop if some individuals within the group drag it down - i.e. they're stupid.

Several factors influence those in a group that would not occur with an individual. While the actual intelligence does not drop, the effect is the same.

That's a very different thing, you have to consider groups that are physically together (where peer pressure plays a huge role), then there are groups like television viewers, who are affected by different outside pressures like advertising.

And I don't get what you mean about the effect being the same as the drop in intelligence. Is the effect bad taste, questionable behavior, apathy? How can that be measured?

and what the posters have said above. Disagreeing is one thing but your statement wasn't an analysis of the episode, it was just your usual anti-Spike comments. In any case it's what I read. Spike doesn't exist outside the way he is written, it's just a character so I don't understand your Sadly, Spike is, like the other characters, a victim of the writers. You can't put all of the blame for what happened on his shoulders.

Frankly you can't seriously compared BTVS to Reality Shows, can you?

Do you hint that we aren't bright candles here because we think that a BTVS including Spike as a regular was a great show? Is this what you think of the BTVS fans?

I was disappointed by season 7, but I think that the three first seasons had worse episodes within than season 4-5-6. Season 4 is the best season IMO. It isn't about the characters or about the arcs but about the way every episode is written.

I really wonder why you've kept watching this show asince season 3 and posting here given to what you said above.

I didn't mean to start a fight or anything but a reply that is almost only negative tends to hurt me sometimes.

When a character is well written it takes on a life of its own. At that point it is no longer merely the product of the writer, nor can he or she hold full claim over it. Characters must be written faithfully and true to their spirit. If Luke Skywalker had decided in ROTJ that he wanted to join his father and wipe out the rebellion people wouldn't simply say that 'he is as he is written'. It would have been completely against the character as he had been defined up until then.

Likewise a writers universe must be remained faithful to. One cannot simply rewrite clearly defined rules simply because the fancy strikes them. Thats called bad writing.

a character has been rewritten against what you called its "spirit"...I don't think so. Since we are speaking of Spike, I think that his character got more stuff later, and got deeper in season 5 he was too caricatural to have its own life in season 2, but he was basically the same character, a lover, a vampire who broke the rules, a show man...

As defined in the Buffyverse, Buffy is a hero. She is someone who slays the bad things, not one who becomes intimately involved with them. Angel can be somewhat explained if not excused, because he was a vampire with a soul. There can be no excuse for the second instance, newly risen or not. And certainly no excuse for what occured in season 7. You wouldn't have thought it keen if Buffy started sleeping with the master or Adam or the mayor, would you?

Also in this train of thought, as defined in the Buffyverse before retcon, souless vampires were evil. No exceptions. A vampire without a soul couldn't even hope to be good and wouldn't so much as care to try.

If Joss wanted to altar the canon convincingly, he should have introduced a vampire who was from the beginning unwilling to feed from humans, despite being souless. A character who from the start rejected the ways of his kind is a much better way to convince people of the change.

[> [> This is kind of odd -- Eurydice, 18:06:41 02/04/04 Wed [1] (141.154.23.28)

You claim that the show declined because "some people" believed that Spike and Buffy had a connection from the start, and that "some people" claimed he was different - Which people are you talking about? Do you mean viewers, because they don't have much to do with the storyline. If you're talking about the writers, then that means this was an intentional part of the storyline, which I don't believe because Spike was slated to die at the end of the arc.

I'm not sure how Spike's introduction can have retconned the whole Buffyverse, considering that this was the 16th episode of a seven year series - there wasn't really a Buffyverse to retcon. But in any case, Spike and Drucilla were brought in as contrasts to Angel. The point was that Angelus was the worst of the worst, not that Spike and Dru were better than your average vampire. The writers were always very clear about how evil both of them were.

Okay, that and the spiked blond hair, blue eyes and leather. Considering that Spike was supposed to go to a dusty bye bye at the end of 2 I have to think that the writers and audience saw some kind of future potential there for his character. Not necessarily a love interest for Buffy but some kind of foil for her? It was SMG who talked Joss into bringing JM back solo for the season 4 on. She's the one who said their characters had chemistry with each other so I don't see how the show turned for the worse in any way much less due to 'the audience'.

It was my understanding that Joss's words were something like 'No more vampire boyfriends for Buffy!' after Angel left so something in the character of Spike or the actors must have changed his mind?

[> [> Thanks for your thoughts....point in fact, I did ask what the board thought about the ep -- merrick981, 23:00:10 02/04/04 Wed [1] (205.188.209.46)

Vampyr64:

I find some of your thoughts really intriguing, and I see where you are coming from on several issues. You bring up a point that is rarely explored on the board, or fan sites throughout, because it "attacks" Spike's character in a sense. I don't believe you were necessarily "attacking" spike, no disrespect to those that do....its merely a case of interpretation. You definately have gone against the grain though, and like u said, its your opinion...exactly what i asked for. Personally, I agree with your summary of Spike. I believe that the writers "rewrote" his character in later seasons...i mean look at him now, he has a soul. The issue though, IMO, shouldn't be about "rewriting" a character. Granted, I don't thin kthe writers ever anticipated Spike to get a soul, his portrayl in "School Hard" demonstrates a path very different from the one he is on now. He doesn't come across as anything but an evil vampire that happens to do things his way and doesn't really care about who he pisses off or is hurt. Spike does however demonstrate some qualities that allow the writers to rewrite him....first, he demonstrates an affection that "most" vampires don't portray, the affection for Drusilla. He "loves" her, and it shows.

The bottome line, I think you are right to question the development of Spike, but I disagree with the fact you posed some "intelligence" questions. Because viewers accept certain "character developments," or don't accept them, doesn't identify intelligence, it merely identifies their perceptions of entertainment. I've questioned Spike and his role after S4, simply because I liked him better as an advesary, not a hero...just a personal view. He makes a great bad guy, but i also feel like his road of a villain has ended, and his new journey is that of a hero on the path of redemption. Thus, its a rewrite, but its justified.
I have never bought into the fact Spike was more human than other vampires, or anything like that...not for sure where that has been discussed (maybe here and i missed it), but regardless, Spike is different based on his personality as a vampire and his scars left from his mother and her torment prior to being killed. I have to think his story is different than most vampires, i mean many had killed their parents probably, but not after they had been sired.

Overall, I really like your thoughts, and thanks for sharing them. you brought another opinion that went against the grain, played devils advocate. Thats the point of this discussion.

Granted, I probably shouldn't have posted the somewhat insulting remarks. However, my intial post had nothing of the sort. It was only after I received a response that I felt was insluting, merely because my views weren't positive like everyone elses.

I agree that at this point Spike has gone too far to kill for his crimes, sadly. This is one of the reasons why I am unable to deal with the Buffyverse anymore. That and the fact that friends who were closer then family are now scattered to the four corners of the earth and away from each other for no real reason. It feels almost like Joss is punishing the characters for SMG's decision to not make a guest appearance.

Strangely enoough, I used to enjoy the character of Spike. Back in season 4 I counted him among my favorite characters. However, too much damage has been done since then for me to ever like him, or even tolerate him again.

JMHO.

As I stated above, replies were supposed to be about our thoughts in the ep. I felt that the biggest thing introduced in the episode was Spike.

As for your other question, your right, the show was fun at one time. However even when I watch the old episodes and see how good they were, I am reminded even more of how far a fall is looming ahead. I find myself increasingly angry at Buffy and her words. To this day I cannot understand why Buffy reacted harshly to Xander's stating that only dead guys could make time with her. It proved to be true. No one will explain it to me and I'm afraid even if they did I wouldn't understand. It's this and other events, which proved to be but symptoms of a much larger problem, which make it difficult for me to watch even the early episodes. Knowing that its all downhill from there really take the fun out of things.

The reason I stay and post here is because I enjoy posting here. I wasn't aware that posts had to be nothing but glaring admiration and praise.

At the time he said it, it was out of jealousy and why *he* couldn't make time with her. And acting harshly is something Buffy did whenever anybody told her something she didn't want to hear, not just Xander.

I don't know that it was entirely true that only dead guys could make time with her - her relationship with Riley was longer and more complete than with Angel or Spike - but two vamps, you gotta wonder. I guess we'll know for sure if she hooks up with a third vamp in Rome. :-)

Does it really make his words inappropriate simply because of the motivation? Whether because of jealousy or not, he was stating the truth.

Buffy was under no obligation as a friend or otherwise to go out with him. However, likewise Xander was in no obligation to make Buffy feel good about her decision.

I thankyou though for being the only person to even bother giving an explanation.

I wasn't talking about the appropriateness of Xander's remark or anybody's obligation - you were asking why Buffy's reaction to it was so harsh. I think Buffy doesn't like to be made to face her decisions and that she discounted his opinion because of his motivation.

[> Re: Retro Buffy Discussion: "School Hard"....topic : Spike, Life, and Juggling -- Rosalind, 19:15:32 02/04/04 Wed [1] (142.173.61.226)

I first started watching BtVS half way through season 2 and School Hard was one of the episodes I kept missing in reruns. I didn't actually first see it until half way through season 6 so the Buffy/Spike affair was well underway. But upon watching it I completely got how the character of Spike survived. There is so much in the character and he seems to be completely open-ended. He is sexually attracted to Buffy; his watching her in the Bronze makes that obvious even though for so much of the time he is in deep shadow. He is evil; he snaps the neck of one of the parents and toasts the Chosen One without a single qualm. He is impulsive; anti-authoritarian; romantic, a bit(well a lot) of a braggart. He respects strong women. In every scene a different facet of his character is revealed in a way that makes the viewer say not "too much" but "I want to see more." And JM was obviously giving it all he's got and, as a really good actor who is having fun and going for broke, that is a lot.

I know that the character was supposed to die sometime during the season but it is hard to imagine how long ME would have kept to that plan. I can imagine that a writer would love to write for a character like Spike because he can be anything you want him to be.

I'm not quite sure what else to say except that I know she valued her experience on the board and had made a lot of friends here. And for all her world famous crabbiness, she loved BtVS and was so looking forward to more "nekkid" Spike on AtS.

I'll always be grateful to the board for bringing her into my life. She was a dear friend - funny, snarky, warm and kind - and I'll miss her terribly.

I haven't been on the board much since Buffy went off the air, but I used to print out the majority of Ex Cathedra's posts and read them to my friends. We used to get such a kick out of them. Some of them I even mailed to my son in New Orleans to read - because I knew he would love them as much as I did. I didn't always agree with her, but I ALWAYS loved hearing her opinion. I was lucky enough to even email back and forth with her a few times about different subjects. She was a terrific, outspoken, and interesting person.

I am truly in shock. PLEASE, if anyone knows the details of what happened to her, I would like to know. Please send me an email - and also let me know if there is a fund setup or any other way we as a board can express our condolences for her family. I believe she had children, if I remember correctly, and I for one would like them to know how great all of us here thought their mother was.

I am so sorry to have lost her, but so happy I had the chance to know her.

[> Just adding to earlier -- Molloch, 07:46:17 09/03/03 Wed (203.55.173.3)

While i am deeply saddened to hear about this it makes me feel good (and i hope ex cathedra feels it too) that she has touched so many and made us all laugh silently in rememberence of her posts. She helped me become a member of The Prudent Whores Society! We have lost a great person but have the memory of her snark, wit and brilliance. She has made us all feel a bit sadder today and affected people all around the world so i say enjoy nekkid Spike ex!

I was shocked to read this at work today. I truly felt that I had lost a familiar voice. I mostly lurk but I felt that I had come to know her over the years.

When I first started reading this board, Ex Cathedra was the person who got me hooked with the brilliance of her posts. I find it hard to comprehend that I will never see that wit again.

My condolences to her family. I hope they know how much she was truly appreciated by all.

Grant to her eternal life, Lord, may perpetual light shine her, may she rest in peace.

I really don't know what to say or how to feel, I always read ex's posts when I could, and admired her for saying what she thought and the laughs, I will always remeber the laughs.

It's really difficult to know exactly what to say - I feel sad, and gutted and completely in shock, like most I you I suspect, but I kinda feel like I don't deserve to be as I didn't know her personally, what on earth are you supposed to feel in these circumstances.

We will all miss her greatly, and I still can't believe it's true!

Awful, awful, heartbreaking news. I don't know quite what to type... She was a BC&Ser extraordinaire and I will miss her posts (the snark! the snark!) terribly. I didn't really know her (in the 3D actual seeing-and-believing sense) but I wish I had. The board will be significantly less for her passing.

All my love and thoughts and hugs and prayers and fluffy comforting things go out to Ex's family and friends.

Sadly missed. R.I.P. Much love.

General Stuff What can I say that hasn’t already been said about Ex Cathedra? This thread’s a fun place, so enjoy yourself, but today’s for her!

Yesterday's News:

A sleepy DistractoGirl got a Firsty before shuffling off to bed. ARN got the cookies, albeit late. That con-summate professional BadPenguin was back after keeping us up to date with summaries of his trip. One of the Chani twins dropped by, and Spike’s Bird joined her in a Spuffist salute. Tsoop’s brain was a math mush. Pixi was looking for a better mood. Wyvern was still tired from her Brighton adventure with Nick B. and others. For more, see her blog at Wyvern’s Nest. Xanderchaser was in for Bander and Ganya. JSlayerUK caught me rerunning the Thread. Grey underoo’d StillHisGirl was stumped by the QotD. ChrissieLinnit returned after an absence to draw Buffy/Spike parallels with Arwen/Aragorn. MTsFan doesn’t foresee the return of Spuffy. SpikedPeaches wished a happy, nekkid-Spike filled, birthday to Lipbalm Addict. Will kept it to a Spuffy shout, as did Gishlane and Greenstone. Falcifer ‘shipped Spappy, or Spike with the happy I suppose, not with Mark Twain’s Pap Finn. No relation to Riley. I think. Oh well. BloodyHell got sucked in by the Spuffy header. Toothy & Reddygirl dropped by. Ancientpeas ‘shipped Flush, a heart-felt ‘ship in memory of a pet that left too soon. Thus endeth the Thread.

'Ship of the Day

In the words of the Alan Parsons Project:

“Time, flowing like a river. Time, beckoning me
Who knows when we shall meet again, if ever
But time keeps flowing like a river
To the sea.”

Today we ship our friends at the Cross & Stake. Don’t take each other for granted, okay?

Question of the Day:

What one thing must you do before shuffling off this mortal coil, and what are you waiting for?

This post is a bash-free zone

I think that's why this is so scary. The thought that one of my friends could disappear and that something could have happened to them, and I wouldn't know. Chani and I recently had a friend go MIA for a bit, she's having marital problems, her husband is acting crazy and I didn't know her maiden name to contact her parents, didn't know any of her RL friends, her work number, nothing, I was really worried that something bad had happened to her, and I felt really helpless not being able to contact her . . . anyway, if you have a net friend, get a number, or make sure you know someone who has a number, so if something does happen, or if you're worried, you can find them. She was fine btw. :)
