I was stationed at U Tapao as a Kc-135 ground crew member from January 1969 to January 1970. I was on the flight line daily. My barracks was located within a 100' or so from the perimeter. Much of my spare time was spent at the beach and the outdoor theater at the end of the runway.

I November of '69 I became very sick with what they said was Mononucleousis. I had many of the symptoms of mono but also racking cough which is not a symptom. The medical staff seemed puzzled by this. I spent a week or two in the base hospital and then placed on base sick leave. I was discharged in January '70.

After getting home I almost immediately started having severe respiratory problems which continue to this day. My pulmonologist recently said my bronchial tubes looked as if I'd been in a chemical fire but had no clear explanation as to why. I also have developed CAD.

Two years ago I learned of the Agent Orange use on U Tapao. My health issues were starting to make sense. I have applied for Agent Orange exposure with the VA but have not heard anything yet.

Has anyone else had a similar experience?
