I'm not exactly the expert on the game (I'm a new member, too!), but it most likely depends on what you plan to do with the horse. If it is just staying at your barn, or the barn you board at, and you ride it a few times a week in an arena or something like that, you probably only need to get a trimming. But, if your horse is going to be a big show horse and you want to spend a lot of time away from home with your horse, you should probably get him shoes on his front feet or all fours, it depends on the horse and the type of work he is doing.
