As Jaymie said very nicely before, it solely depends on what you intend to do with your horse. If it's going to be in a dirt arena most of its days, a trimming should do it fine. If you're planning on attending many, many shows, or if the horse races, jumps, or any other activity that is hard on the shoes, getting the horse shod every few weeks would be for the better.

You are under no obligation as to whether or not you want to show your horse. Some breeds are tougher than others. Just beware: random events will happy based on your decisions. ;)
