It is a solidly Bible-based novel on the life of John the Baptist that will give you new insights into him, those around him, and his ministry. Getting it directly from Rev. It might have been turned into two volumes with the first entitled "Zechariah and Elizabeth" and the second "John the Prophet." In the first part you will get to feel you know the "old priest" and his wife personally, will get to see and relate to the environment and influences that shape the life of John, and will be moved by the death of each of these loving parents. In the second part you will see the maturing growth of the young man, his focus upon his calling - with a fleshing-out of the events recorded in the Bible relating to his preaching, interaction with Jesus, and his death. The final chapters should touch you deeply. Gene has spent some 12 years researching and developing his account, including several trips to Israel to see first-hand the territory and places in which John lived and preached.
