Have wizard ally cast Mordenkainen's Disjunction?

Fighters are not SUPPOSED to go head to head with wizards. They are melee specialists. They are infantry. Infantry are not supposed to attack the artillary. They attack the artillary's support at best.

Rogues can't go toe to toe with wizards either (or fighters for that matter), but their specialty is obvious. I think you are discounting that specialty of the fighter. Having the infantry be just as effective as the artillary might be nice, but, face it, they aren't and that is okay. Fighters have other uses.
