No you do not run an average game, you ran an extraordinary game! And the fact that the only hobby I have managed to keep making time for during what has been the busiest two years of my life is the biweekly Sunday game speaks to that. Personally I rather enjoy the level of magic as the vast majority of items have a role in the plot but there are enough “goodies” for us to have fun with too so we don’t feel like the items are more important to the plot then our characters.

Personally I think the discussion about how much magic is good, that seems to have dominated the message board once again, misses the point just as it always does. The real question should be: Does the current level of magic in the game (either too high or too low) hamper anyone’s enjoyment of the game? When one writes a fantasy story it would be rather stupid to change the entire plot just because of some notion of how much magic is enough but if the level of magic in the story prevents the story from being a good one then it must be changed, right? Why is should D&D be any different?

Having said that I haven’t heard anyone complaining about the level of magic in your games and have no complaints myself (Although, as the player of one of the current paradigmatic good chars, I can empathize with the opinion that at times it seems to be very hopeless to be one of the good guys in Inzeladun). However, considering your post about divinations I could very well understand how the current level of magic could be ruining your fun as the DM (and maybe the darkness some players have mentioned is your way of retaining some level of control over the power that these spells give players) since they have a tendency to reveal plot elements before you are ready. I think we as players sometimes forget this and that just as you put a lot of effort into making sure we have fun we should make an effort to ensure that our characters abilities don’t ruin your enjoyment of the game.

In that vain and considering that I tend to cast a fair amount of divinations as Alexander I would like to ask you the following: Does my chars handling of his ability to divine things effect your enjoyment of the game? I try and make an effort to present this ability as part of the plot and allow you to use it as a plot device but I don’t know if I am successful.
