In case anyone here is wondering why Word has security flaws of this type...
Microsoft thought it would be a good idea to have a macro language, to automate tasks like formatting documents.
Neat idea, except they went and embedded an entire, totally unrestricted, version of Visual Basic -- a full programming language in its own right capable of invoking ANY windows operation.
I don't know about you, but I don't often use Word to defragment my hard drive, or change the registry, and I certainly don't use Word to do 3D rendering (DirectX).
