Several weeks had passed and Theresa hadn’t heard a peep out of Ethan. She did however catch him on occasions staring longingly at her, but she would never catch his gaze. She would quickly turn away to say something to her husband.
Julian was still being the pig that he was, but Theresa learned very fast how to deal with men like her perverted husband.
One night a few days ago Julian came into their bedroom drunk. He usually would be tipsy from his brandies, but this time he had gone off the deep end.
He advanced on Theresa telling her that that was the night she would make love to him. At first it frightened her, but she remember the pair of scissors she kept under her pillow.
She whipped them out and dared her husband to take another step.
“Come near me Julian, and you’ll find little Julian in pieces.”
Lucky for Julian he was too wasted to even know what was going on. He passed out quickly on the extra bed Theresa had put in for him to sleep on since day one. There was no way she could sleep in the same bed with the man who was responsible for her losing Ethan.
She reluctantly threw a blanket over him, and then went to her own bed with the scissors still clutched in her hands.

As she sat at her desk going over the final details for an upcoming event, a messenger arrived with a package.
Theresa generously tipped him as he handed her a rather small envelope.
She opened it and pulled out a little note and what seemed to be a ticket to the ballet “Sleeping Beauty” held in Chicago Illinois.
She looked carefully in the envelope for another ticket, but didn’t see one.
She unfolded the note and read.
“My dearest Theresa. I’m giving this ticket of the ballet to you for rising to every occasion I throw your way. Not many people show great strength in adversity. There is just one ticket here because your companion has the other and will meet you on the Crane jet this evening.
Have a great time, and I will love to hear all about your trip when you return home tomorrow.
My sincerest love, Alistair.”
Theresa read and reread the note Alistair sent with the ballet ticket. She wasn’t sure what was going on this time, but something was definitely up.
She gave out a great sigh.
“Just what I need.” She said frowning. “Another night with my husband. I’m not sure how much of this I can take.” She said rising from her desk.
“This is it! After tonight I’m making some changes around here. I’ve put up with Alistair and his plans long enough. I gave up my family, and a life I wanted with the man I loved. The man I still love, Ethan…” Theresa trailed off. She didn’t want to think about all she gave up because Alistair had this hold over her.
But it was safer like this. She had to continue to do what she was doing so that all hell wouldn’t break loose in Harmony. It was hard for her, but the safety of her family and friends rested on her hands.

Pilar came in her room with little Ethan. She didn’t like the fact that Theresa had moved in here with Julian. Her family had always despised him, and to think that Theresa was married to him, and sleeping with him was unbearable.
She was dressed in a long black evening gown that flowed out by the skirt. The black sequence on it sparkled with the diamond earrings and necklace she wore. She put on her black pumps but was a little weary about wearing them because she knew Chicago would probably have snow this time of year.
She reached for little Ethan, but Pilar reluctantly gave him to her because she didn’t want him messing up her beautiful ensemble.
“It’s okay mama, I don’t care about these clothes.” Theresa responded. “Give me my precious little baby. Oh, there, there.” She said taking him from Pilar.
“Oh my, you are getting heavy. Yes you are. What’s that you say? You think your mama is pretty?” Theresa smiled at her baby. He was her pride and joy. At least she could have one Ethan in her life. She wanted both, but knew it was impossible.
She knew that she would never feel the warmth of his touch, or the softness of his lips. She secretly yearned for his love again, but she knew she couldn’t have it. Yes, he wanted her, but things were different now. She had to be faithful to Julian. Alistair wouldn’t have it any other way.
She hated what this was doing to her family, but especially to Ethan. He loved her, and wanted her. She wanted him in return. The last kiss they shared was so passionate and heart warming. But she had to lie and say it meant nothing. And when Ethan found out that she was sleeping with Julian that just about sent him into a whirl spin.
Pilar took the baby and kissed her daughter good night.
“Have a wonderful time at the ballet mija. Is Julian meeting you down stairs?” Pilar wondered.
“No mama. He’s meeting me on the plane. I guess he had important business to take care of first.” Theresa gave a roll of her eyes.
“Very well then. You watch yourself with that man. I will never trust him, and just knowing that you’ll be in a different city alone with him makes me troubled.”
“Don’t worry mama. I can handle Julian. We’ve gotten alone very well thus far.” She said smiling, glancing over to her pillow knowing that a pair of scissors lied beneath it.
Pilar said her goodbyes once again, and Theresa kissed her baby and left for the limo.
She was excited about the ballet. Sleeping Beauty was one of her favorite stories, and she wasn’t going to allow Julian to ruin it for her. Besides, what could go wrong? They would see the ballet, and return home before the sun rose. There was nothing to worry about.
************************
As Theresa boarded the plane, she asked the flight attendant if her husband was on board yet. The young woman answered a negative and walked toward the cockpit.
Theresa took a moment to touch up her makeup which was done up lightly. A little dab of lip gloss to bring out the lushness of her lips, and a light spray of her favorite cologne was all she needed.
Her back was toward the entrance of the plane, but she knew someone had boarded. Her companion’s scent filled her nostrils as she recognized it all too well.
She turned slowly knowing well enough who was standing behind her.
Ethan stood there looking as if he had won some grand prize in a lottery contest.
He was donned in a tuxedo looking as handsome as ever. He had the essence of a graceful swan, but manly enough to be known as the king of his domain.
He caught Theresa’s gaze and couldn’t believe that she was his date for the evening.
He looked deep into her eyes, and saw a sparkle that he knew she provided only for him. “She will never look at Julian with such passion.” He thought to himself. He wanted to pull her close to him just enough to feel her heart beating against his. But he thought better of himself.
He didn’t want to do anything to jeopardize his good fortune. His mind quickly went to earlier that afternoon when a messenger arrived with a small envelope concealing a ticket to the ballet “Sleeping Beauty” held in Chicago, Illinois, and a small note that read, “Meet me on the Crane Jet at half past eight. Be prepared for the unexpected. Sincerely Theresa.”
He wasn’t sure what to expect. He knew that Theresa had told him dozens of times that it was over between them, but maybe now she was ready to let him enter her world again. He was intrigued by the mystery behind the letter that he knew he couldn’t pass up the chance to make her his once again.
He wanted to say something to her, but he knew the moment was too precious to ruin with mere words. However she was a beautiful object. Any man would be foolish not to compliment how stunning she looked. Her hair was pulled back into a tight bun with a few stands falling off the sides.
Her lips were kissable and the restraint to have them on his nearly drove him insane. Everything about the woman who stood before him was perfect. Yes, she had made mistakes in the past, but they were all done for the right reasons. Why couldn’t he see that before it was too late? Now that she belonged to Julian, there wasn’t much he could do unless she wanted it too.
But maybe things were changing. After all, she invited him out to another city to enjoy a night of fairy tales and romance. It was all too perfect. He wanted nothing to destroy what could happen between them this magical night. Before he let his mind go wild with desire for her, he complimented her.
“Theresa.” He said shaking his head as he beheld her beauty. “You look very lovely tonight.”
Theresa spoke not a word. She was quite confused as to why Ethan boarded that plane and not her husband.
Before she responded they heard the flight attendant announce take off, and that they should put on their seat belts.
Ethan slightly captured her arm and sat her down in her seat before taking his. Once the plane ascended into the air, the silence was broken again with the inquire of if they would like drinks on their flight to Chicago.
“Nothing for me thank you.” Theresa responded turning her focus away from Ethan.
“I’ll have a brandy.” Ethan said never letting his gaze lift from Theresa.
Theresa turned back to him in wonder. What was he doing here? Was there some kind of mix up as to why He was on that plane heading to Chicago?
Just as Theresa began to seek answers to these questions, Ethan whipped out the note she had written to him.
“Thank you so much for the invitation to join you tonight.” He said smiling at her.
Theresa pulled her view down to the note he held tight in his hands. It was as if he was holding on to a valuable piece of jewelry.
“What is that you’re holding?” She asked suspiciously.
Ethan looked down at it, and back up to Theresa.
“It’s the note you sent me inviting me to the ballet this evening.”
All of Theresa’s senses went wild. She knew she didn’t send any note to Ethan. She in fact received a similar package herself. What was this all about she wondered.
“Can I see the note?” She asked trying not to draw any suspicion his way.
Ethan handed her the note and she read carefully. She instantly knew this was a set up by Alistair. What was he doing now? Why was he playing with her life like this? Theresa felt like a puppet on a string.
Ethan noticed the flushness of her cheeks as she read the note.
“Theresa, are you all right?” He questioned.
Theresa lifted her eyes from the note, and tried to think of something fast.
“Ethan I don’t think I’m feeling all too well. I think we should turn the plane around and go home.”
Total despair began to wash over Ethan’s face. He wanted this night to last forever. He didn’t want it to end.
“You’re not feeling well?” He struggled out.
Just then her phone rang. Alistair was on the other end, but Theresa didn’t let on who was calling her.
“Theresa. I hope you are enjoying your little surprise.” He chuckled.
Theresa stood from her seat and motioned for Ethan to excuse her while she took this call.
She walked to the back of the plane for more privacy, while Ethan sipped the brandy that was handed to him.
“Alistair!” She said with desperation in her voice. “What is this all about? Why is Ethan here with me? I thought I was going to the ballet with Julian.”
Alistair chuckled on the other end.
“Alistair this is hardly funny.” She whispered.
“My dearest Theresa. I wrote in my note for you to enjoy yourself. And we both know that you can’t enjoy yourself with Julian. Just accept this gift, and have a good time with Ethan tonight.”
“No Alistair. I can’t do this. Alistair? Alistair?” Theresa looked down at her phone when she heard a dial tone.
She grasped the phone to her chest. She couldn’t believe that Alistair would put her in this predicament. She knew it was impossible to spend an evening alone with Ethan. The heat and desire still shone through her eyes when they were alone together, and she knew that Ethan would easily see it too and call her on it.
“What am I going to do?” She whispered to herself.
“Theresa, is everything okay?” He said rising from his seat gliding towards her.
Theresa turned to face him. She pasted a smile on her face for both their benefits.
“Yes Ethan. I’m fine. What ever was wrong a few minutes ago settled. I’m fine, please take your seat.”
From the expression on Ethan’s face, Theresa could tell that he was happy. She knew he wanted to spend time with her alone, but she wasn’t sure how she was going to handle herself with him.
Ethan had a way of pulling her into him, even without her knowing it. She would be lost in his kisses even before she knew her lips were on his. If she wasn’t careful, more than stolen kisses could happen tonight. Theresa had to make sure that nothing deviated from them watching the ballet and heading back to Harmony when it was over. She knew one slight jolt of fate and she would be under his spell once again.
**************
All during the ballet, Theresa was captivated. She remembered the first time she attended a ballet. It seemed like a lifetime ago. It had been with Ethan, and he had yet to find out that she was secretly in love with him.
Now, years later, they found themselves at the ballet once again. The circumstances were different this time. She wasn’t the same love struck little girl anymore. She was a woman with power. A woman who could have anything her heart desired. Anything except Ethan. She had made a deal with Alistair to end her relationship with him much to her dismay.
It was too much to think about and she blew the thought of it from her mind. She wanted to enjoy the rest of the evening, and get back home without any regrets.
Ethan whispered over to his companion.
“Are you having a good time?”
She looked at him and smiled.
“Oh yes!” She beamed. “Sleeping Beauty is one of my favorite childhood stories.”
“One story that is even enjoyed by a woman.” Ethan said catching her gaze.
All of a sudden the theater appeared vacant. Theresa looked deep in his eyes and felt her senses go numb. She could feel her heart race.
Ethan began to lean closer breathing her in. He reached over and brushed his slim fingers across her soft cheek before tangling them between the few strands of hair that was draped off to the side.
“Ethan I…”
“Shhhh.” He softly whispered. He spoke no words. He knew she wanted to be kissed much to her dissent. He gently pulled her head towards his. His breath was warm and inviting upon her lips, and she could feel her breath leave her body as his lips descended to meet hers.
Just as they came within inches to colliding, they were startled by the applause of the grand finale.
Theresa swallowed hard and found herself breathing once more. She opened her eyes and saw disappointment wash over him.
“I guess it’s over.” She said softly.
“You and me, or the ballet?”
“The ballet. Everyone’s applauding.”
“I thought they were applauding our reunion.” He continued to whisper.
Theresa searched his eyes. She knew kissing Ethan would be a mistake. She didn’t want him to think they had a chance to be together again. He was with Gwen, and she was with Julian. This was the hand life dealt them, and it was their responsibility to play by the rules.
“Ethan, I think it’s time to go.”
Ethan saw that he was losing her again, and thought quickly on how to keep her in such a passionate moment.
Ethan grabbed her arms. “No Theresa. I don’t want to go. I want us to finish what we started here.”
He disregarded the fact that people were exiting the building. He wanted them to stay in their private box until she gave in to her desire. He knew she wanted the kiss as much as he did. Why was she pretending not to love him anymore? She was playing games with their lives, their future. He couldn’t bear living one more moment without her by his side.
“Theresa please!” Desperation rose in his throat.
Theresa lifted her lips to his cheek and brushed them across it gently.
Ethan closed his eyes and held his breath as he thought that he had reached her. He loosened his grip on her and she broke free of his grasp.
She stood slowly and looked down at him.
“It’s time to go Ethan.” She said walking out, with him rising to exit behind her.
