Title: My Eye's On You
Author: Dee
Rating: PG
Summary: Ethan goes to a benefit at the country club and meets an old rival.

Disclaimer: I do not own any of the characters from “Passions” Soap Opera.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Ethan’s date was very beautiful. She was not at all what he had expected. She had gorgeous long blond hair. And the most beautiful blue eyes he had ever seen.

He couldn’t figure out why she had a hard time finding a date. She was breath taking.

They pulled up to the country club where a breast cancer benefit was held that evening. Ethan had been to many benefits in his day, but he tried not to be bored by any of them. He always thought they were worthwhile.

Ethan’s date’s name was Cynthia. Her closest friends called her Cindy, but she preferred her full name, and that’s what Ethan called her.

When they walked into the club, there were whispers all over the building. Ethan was rather flattered to be escorting such a beautiful woman. He knew this would be the talk of Harmony for weeks to come.

She was dressed in a red floor length gown that was low cut in the back. Her gown was accented with pearls around her neck and pearl earrings to complete the ensemble. Her four inch red heels meant that she was someone to look at, and she knew it.

Her mother told her that Ethan Crane would escort her that evening, and she wanted to definitely appear as Crane material.

When they took their seats at one of the tables, many of Ethan friends walked up to him to speak. Of course he knew their main interest was in finding out who his beautiful date was.

A guy from the press was there and asked if he could take a few shots of them for tomorrow’s paper.

After the excitement died down, he found himself engrossed in a very intriguing conversation.

She was an attorney for one of his rival companies. But she had always dreamt of starting a law firm of her own.

She was very intelligent. She passed the bar on the first try. She never wanted to be anything else.

The conversation between them fascinated Ethan. But something wasn’t there. Her eyes didn’t sparkle when she talked about her life. She was almost like a trained robot that was programmed to say these things.

Ethan dismissed it and continued their discussion.

Not long after that, there was a lot of twitter at the entrance of the country club.

Robert Filch III had entered.

Robert was the grandson of Robert Filch Sr. The CO-partner of Filch and Broak law firm. The firm Ethan currently worked for.

He was high profile in the town of Harmony. His family was one of the original settlers of the town, and not to mention very rich.

They established businesses all over the country and Ethan was surprised Rob was in town.

He headed the law firm in Houston Texas. He was surprised that he would be at a small function like this until he remembered who was sponsoring it.

Robert and Ethan went back a long way. They were high school buddies. Some people said they were rivals. Always competing in what ever they did.

Both men went out for debate team captain, but Robert won. Everything Ethan went out for he seemed to lose to his good friend Rob. Captain of the chess team, Captain of Rugby, Class President, Homecoming King, and lastly, Valedictorian.

Ethan could never put one up on Robert. He even dated the girl that Ethan had a major crush on in high school.

Their college years were worse. It was high school all over except the fact that the fraternity they pledged only had room for one more membership, and of course they went with Robert. Ethan had to pledge all over again the following year, but that made Robert his superior.

It was always a no win situation with Robert, but Ethan always considered him as a friend. In fact, they were actually best friends.

Ethan didn’t see him with a date so this gave him the perfect opportunity to gloat that he had the girl tonight.

He motioned for Robert to come to their table. He was going to love every minute of this. This would actually be a night that Ethan would come out on top.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

“Ethan Crane, how are you?” Robert asked shaking his hand.

“Rob, it’s good to see you again. Please, let me introduce you to my date for the evening.” He said motioning in Cynthia’s direction.

“This is Ms. Cynthia Winfrey.”

Robert took her hand and kissed it gently and released it.

She blushed at the attention she was given.

“So Robert,” Ethan continued as they took their seats. “This is so not like you to be dateless at these functions. Are you losing your touch old boy.”

“Wouldn’t you like to think so my friend. I’m surprise you would even think I would show up at something so public, something that is sure to make the headlines, alone.”

“My date went to the ladies room when we entered. She should be out shortly. She’s some local girl that my mom fixed me up with. However she is the most beautiful girl I have ever laid eyes on.”

“In fact looking around the room tonight, not to embarrass you Ms. Winfrey, but my date just happens to be the most lovely girl at the club tonight.”

Cynthia smiled at his comment out of politeness, but Ethan could tell that Rob had touched a nerve.

After they ordered their drinks, Ethan looked up to see a vision standing in the doorway.

The beautiful woman standing there, who seemed to be searching for something, was simply breath taking. In fact Ethan forgot how to breathe when he laid eyes on her.

She was dressed in a floor length dark blue velvety gown. It was cut low in the front and the back, leaving just enough to the imagination. Her hair was lifted off her neck in a very elegant style.

She wore nothing around her neck, but wore fabulous silver earrings that match the hairpiece that was holding her hair up.

Ethan couldn’t take his eyes off her, and wondered why she was there.

“Who is that?” He heard Cynthia mumble.

Ethan was about to speak, but heard Robert’s voice instead.

“That, my dear, is Cinderella, and I do believe she is looking for her Prince Charming.”

Robert stood up and left the table and went to escort his date into the ballroom.

Cameras flashed from all around the room as these two made their way to the table.

Robert was right. His date was the most beautiful girl in the club, in the town, hell, in the world.

When they reached the table Ethan stood up.

“Ms. Cynthia, and Mr. Crane,” Robert’s voice dancing with the introductions, “I would like to introduce to you Ms. Theresa Lopez-Fitzgerald.”

Theresa smiled at Ethan and his date, not letting on that they knew one another.

Ethan reached for her hand and kissed it, sending a chill through him.

“It’s nice to meet you Ms. Lopez-Fitzgerald.” He said wanting to kill Robert for being so damn lucky.

“Please, call me Theresa.” She said nodding and smiling at the Crane heir.

Ethan hadn’t realized that he still had a hold of Theresa’s hand until Robert pulled her out of his grip. Ethan wanted to take the butter knife on the table and cut him for touching her. Rage and fury was burning inside of him knowing that Theresa was his very lucky friend’s date for the evening.

How could he get through this night?

His mind was already doing a number on his emotions every time he saw her.

All he could imagine was his shower fantasy.

At this point he wanted to take that same butter knife and cut himself.

Robert had done it again. He seems to always have the upper hand with him. There seemed to be nothing he could do about his friend’s luck.

As the four engaged in conversations, Ethan couldn’t seem to take his eyes off Theresa. He should have been the one who escorted her to this benefit. It should have been him who would get to dance with her all night. It should be him who will get the good night kiss.

His mind was cursing the day Robert was born. But it wasn’t his fault that he seems to always take what Ethan wanted. He could have homecoming, and the class presidency, and even being captain of many teams. But there was no way he was going to lose Theresa to him. No way at all.

Theresa was so sweet. She was very polite and very attentive to Robert all night long.

When the couples got up to dance, Ethan danced facing her. He just couldn’t keep his eyes off of her. His heart flickered every time she caught his gaze.

But she was true to her date. She never let on that she was watching him too.

When the music stopped, and everyone clapped, the conductor asked everyone to stand right where they were.

“Please everyone, exchange partners to the couples standing next to you.”

Ethan thanked the gods of fate for this remarkable turn of events.

Theresa and Ethan had never shared a dance before, and this would be their first. He hoped that they would play a song that would be special for the both of them for years to come.

When Ethan walked up to Theresa, he could tell that Robert was cursing under his breath.

“Keep your distance Crane.” He snarled.

Ethan didn’t pay Robert any attention. He couldn’t wait until they were in each other’s arms.

Ethan took Theresa’s hand in his and he placed his arm around her waist, while she placed her free hand upon his shoulder.

When the music began, they couldn’t believe what was being played.

It was the same song Theresa sang a few weeks ago when the girls cooked dinner for him and Chad at Whitney’s house.

“The First Time Ever I Saw Your Face.”

Theresa and Ethan were lost in each other’s gaze. They had journeyed to a place and didn’t want to return.

“You look very beautiful tonight Theresa.” Ethan said pulling her closer.

He could tell Robert was eyeing them.

“Thank you Ethan. You look mighty handsome yourself. Your date is very beautiful.”

“That’s all it is. It’s only a date. I have never met her before. Our moms fixed us up for the evening.”

“You don’t have to explain to me. You are Ethan Crane. Heir to the Crane dynasty. There will be a lot more women that your mom would probably fix you up with.”

Ethan pulled her closer.

“I don’t want to be fixed up with a lot more. I just happen to have my eye on a local girl who’s home for the summer.”

“Anyone I know?” She said smiling.

“I believe you might know her.” He teased.

“Well maybe you could introduce us. She might have a brother I wouldn’t mind meeting.”

“Her brother is not your type.” He said frowning.

“Oh, and you know my type hey.”

“I believe I could guess.”

“Ethan Crane you are a charmer.”

“I try my best.”

“Well I do have to say that I am indeed charmed by you sir.”

“That’s what I was hoping for.” Ethan smiled.

Theresa and Ethan danced to what now was considered as their song. She laid her head in his chest and felt like that little girl who was dancing all those years ago with the mystery boy.

Ethan felt so familiar to her. Like they shared a dance before.

Ethan felt the same way. He couldn’t shake the feeling that he has held her to this particular tune many years ago.

But he knew that wasn’t possible. He had just met Theresa, and he knew for sure that they attended different jr. high schools as well as high school and college. But the feeling was so strong. They were made to dance with one another.

She almost felt like that little girl he danced with when he took his sister to her eighth grade masquerade sock hop dance.

Right at that moment both Theresa and Ethan looked at one another. Thinking that this may be the person they shared their first dance with so long ago.

Just as the both of them were about to speak, Robert interrupted them.

“I do believe the song has ended. You can let her go now Crane.”

Ethan slowly let go of Theresa as they headed back to the table.

For the rest of the evening it was hard for them to keep their eyes off one another. They didn’t want to disappoint their dates, but they so wanted to share more dances and just be caught up in each other’s company.

Theresa was really starting to warm up to Ethan, and Ethan couldn’t have been more happy.

He actually got through the evening without one lustful thought.

“Love.” He whispered to himself.

He wanted to have more thoughts about Theresa that was based on love and not lust.

He believed that Theresa was the one. She was the one that would make all his dreams come true. She was the one, who after a hard day in court, who would massage his body and take away all the tension. She was the one who would walk down the isle to him while he was waiting at the altar. She was the one who would bare his children, as they became a family.

It was Theresa Lopez-Fitzgerald who he wanted to spend the rest of his life with.

“Theresa.” He whispered under his breath.

While Robert spoke with one of his friends, Theresa slipped Ethan a note under the table.

Ethan carefully put the note in his jacket pocket, hoping not to disturb Cynthia who sat idle beside him.

Robert shook hands with Ethan, and said his good evenings.

Ethan was nice enough to return the gesture and also said good night to Ms. Lopez-Fitzgerald.

She nodded in his direction, and gave a very sly smile. And on that note her and Robert left the building.

After Ethan and Cynthia gave there good nights, dealing with the awkward moment of the goodnight kiss, Ethan quickly kissed her hand and turned to go to his car.

When he sat behind the wheel he pulled out Theresa’s note.

Meet me at our spot at two A.M. I’ll be counting the minutes until you arrive.
-Terri

Ethan read the note and sighed at the fact that she had signed it Terri.

He thought she would never let him call her that. But now it was Terri, and he was glad to be honored.

“Wait a minute! What spot?” Ethan panicked.

Ethan read and re read the note. What spot was she talking about?

They had just established they had a song. But a spot? What could that be?

“It couldn’t be the Book Café.” Ethan thought. That was closed.

“The park closed at 11:00pm. That couldn’t be it.”

Ethan rushed home to change his clothes. He wanted to get out of his tux and put on something more relaxing. He couldn’t wait to see her.

He was quite proud of himself for not having any lustful thoughts of her during dinner. However he did want to attack Robert for putting his hands on her.

He vowed that no other man would be able to do that again without his permission.

He was determined to make Theresa his. And hopefully tonight would be the night they took their relationship to the next level.

The Kiss.
