Ethan was determined to tire Theresa out. He didn’t want her going out with that Noah Bennett guy. It was obvious that he wanted more from Theresa, and Ethan wanted her all to himself.
After they went roller blading, Ethan took her to the carnival. They filled up on popcorn, hot dogs, and cotton candy.
Theresa loved the merry go round. Her and Ethan rode it at least ten times that day. They had so much fun, and any person that saw them, could clearly see they were in love.
The next day was pretty much the same thing all over again. They woke up early and went jogging together. Ethan couldn’t keep up with the beautiful fit Theresa. She laughed so hard when he slowed down. It was obvious that Ethan wasn’t as fit as she was, but he did like to stay active.
They made another trip to the carnival, and filled up on junk food. Theresa didn’t think about her date with Noah. In fact, she had forgotten all about it.
“Theresa,” Ethan said taking her in his arms, I’m happy the most when I’m with you. I’ve never had so much fun in my life. I thought this would be another boring summer with paper work, and stuffy court rooms.”
“I feel the same way Ethan. When I first arrived in Harmony, I wasn’t sure if I wanted to be home. I was so heart broken from my failed relationship with Steven. And meeting a guy that I could…” Theresa paused. She still hadn’t told Ethan that she loved him. And she didn’t want to scare him off without knowing how he felt.
“That you could what Theresa?” Ethan said wrapping his arms around her body and leaning in close to her.
“Umm, I was just going to say that I was glad I met a guy I could have so much fun with.”
Ethan was disappointed. He was so sure that she would tell him that she was in love with him, but she didn’t. “Maybe she’s not.” He thought to himself.
“Yes, we did have fun didn’t we? I’m just sad it has to end. I want to spend every minute, and every second with you before you leave for New York.”
“And I plan to spend those moments with you too. There’s nothing else I would rather do.” She said smiling up at him.
“Good! Because I don’t plan to have it any other way.”
Theresa gave Ethan a very sweet smile before he pulled her into a deep passionate kiss.

Around four in the afternoon, Ethan finally took Theresa home. He thought that he would go there and relax a bit before springing opera tickets on her. He had snuck and bought them yesterday when she announced that her and Noah were going out.
He thought he could lure her away from the date, and she’d go out with him instead.
When they reached the front door, Ethan asked if he could come in.
“Of course you can silly. But let me warn you now. I won’t be much company since I need to start getting ready for my date.”
Once inside, Ethan pulled her close to him.
“Date? I thought we could do something tonight.” He said with a pitiful frown.
“Ethan you know I’m going out with an old friend tonight.”
“I thought that you wanted to spend every minute with me.” He said still frowning.
“Ethan you know I do, but I just can’t cancel on my date with Noah. He’s expecting me.”
“Yeah that’s not all he’s expecting.” Ethan said under his breath.
“Ethan Crane!” Theresa yelled at him pulling herself out of his grip.
“How dare you say such a thing? Noah’s not like that, and for that matter, what kind of girl do you think I am?”
“I…I didn’t mean it like that Theresa.” He said reaching for her.
“It sure sounded that way to me.” She said frowning and moving away from him.
“Aw, come on honey. Don’t be this way.”
“No Ethan! This jealousy act is not becoming of you at all. And if this is a way you are use to acting, then maybe we should rethink the time we spend together.”
“Theresa! Don’t say that. You know I love spending time with you. Please calm down. Look, I have opera tickets for tonight. I thought we could…” Theresa interrupted him.
“Oh my goodness. I can’t believe you. You thought what? We would go to the opera when you knew I had plans. How dare you? And I bet you think this just fixes things between us don’t you?”
“Well, yeah. Doesn’t it?”
“NO! It doesn’t. In fact it makes things worst. You knew I was going out with Noah tonight, and I was going to call him and ask him if it was okay if you came along. I wanted you two to get to know each other. I wanted my oldest and dearest friend, to meet the guy that I… that I… I like a lot, but now I can’t even stand looking at you right now.” She said turning away from him.
Ethan walked up behind her and put his arms up to her.
“Come on Theresa! You’re my woman! I just don’t like the fact that you can easily go out with another man that obviously has feelings for you.”
“Oh, so now I’m your woman. First you call me awful things…”
“Theresa that was weeks ago.” He interrupted. “So much has changed between us.”
“No Ethan, let me finish. You said some pretty awful things about me, and to me. Then you all of a sudden wanted to spend time with me. And now you are telling me whom I can and cannot see? Ugh! Am I some string that you can pull on just to get a reaction out of?”
“Theresa! Where is this coming from? You know I don’t treat you like that. You know I care deeply for you. I wouldn’t want to put any pressure on you, especially after what happened with you and Steven. Come here baby.” He said trying to put his arms around her again.
“No Ethan! I think it’s time that you left. I just don’t feel like dealing with this right now.” She said moving further away from him.
“Well, if that’s what you want! Maybe I don’t need to come back. I’m out of here!”
And with that Ethan stormed out the house, and slammed the door.
Theresa ran to the door, but didn’t open it. She placed both hands on the door and leaned her head against it. As the tears began to fall, she couldn’t believe she threw him out.
“Oh Ethan, I’m sorry.” She whispered to herself before walking upstairs to Simone’s room. She didn’t know Ethan was standing outside the door also leaning against it.
“Damnit Ethan! Why couldn’t you just tell her that you love her? What are you afraid of?” He cursed to himself before walking off.
~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~
The next few days were miserable for both Theresa and Ethan. Neither one would call the other. And Chad and Whitney refused to talk about the whole situation. They thought it was childish, and couldn’t understand why two people who obviously loved each other would let something so petty stand in their way of a happy life together. It was unexplainable.
The morning of her trip back to New York, Theresa sat quietly in her room at the Russell’s packing her bags. She had so much fun on this trip back home. She knew she owed a lot of it to Ethan. But now, her and Ethan weren’t saying two words to each other.
Things were awkward between them. Just yesterday Theresa and Whitney were sitting in the book café when he walked in. Theresa’s heart skipped a beat when she saw him.
She wanted so badly for him to walk over to her and forgive her for putting him out the other night, but when he saw her, he turned around and went the other way.
It broke her heart to see him, but it destroyed her to know that he didn’t want to see her. She cried a long time on Whitney’s shoulder that day.
Whitney told Theresa to just call him, but Theresa couldn’t bring her self to face him.
“He doesn’t want to hear from me.” She told her friend.
“How do you know? Whitney answered back.
“Because if he did, he would’ve called me by now.”
“See, this is what I was afraid of.” Whitney said shaking her head. “Both of you are stubborn mules. He’s probably thinking the same as you. Neither one wants to take the first step into fixing this.”
“It’s not that easy Whit. I put him out. I said some terrible things to him.”
“Well, I’m sure it was for a good reason. Didn’t you say he was acting all possessive with you, not wanting you to see Noah? He had no right.” She said reassuring her friend that she had just cause of being peeved.
“That’s true Whit, but I should’ve talked it out with him instead of putting him out. I was just so upset.” She said placing her head on her dear friend’s shoulder.
“Well, why don’t you just tell him that honey? I’m sure he’s waiting on you to call him.”
“I don’t know Whit. Maybe I will. I just don’t know.”
Theresa came out of her thoughts when she heard a knock at the door.
“Come in.” She replied.
Whitney stepped into view to see how her friend was doing. She hated seeing Theresa like this. It was almost as bad as when her and Steven broke up. But this was worse somehow. She knew that Theresa’s feelings for Ethan were much more than hers for Steven. It’s almost as if they were destined for each other.
“Hi sweetie. Are you almost done packing?” She said sitting next to her.
“Yeah, just about. I have a few more things to pack away.” She said picking up a fluffy white teddy bear that Ethan won for her at the Carnival just a few days ago.
She couldn’t help to let her mind drift back to when he won it. He had to knock the three bottles off the counter. Every time he would knock them down, either one of two would remain on top. He was determined to win that darn bear if it was the last thing he did.
Finally after nine tries, and full of laughter, all the bottles fell off the counter hitting the floor. He was so proud of himself. But he couldn’t help laughing at how long it took him to win such a small stuffed animal.
Theresa placed the bear inside one of her cases, and laid face down on the bed.
Whitney rubbed her hair in a downward motion, and assured her that things would work out for the best.
It was eleven hours before their train left, and since she woke up so early she decided to take a small nap. She didn’t feel like going anywhere. She told Whitney to just leave her there before it was time to leave for the station.
Whitney turned out the light in her room and closed the door.
