Theresa twisted and turned in bed. She hasn’t gotten a good night’s rest since her and Ethan been at odds with one another. Her mind was so confused as to what to do. She wanted to tell Ethan that she made a mistake, and for him to forgive her. But she couldn’t bring herself to do so.

It wasn’t like her to lie in bed in the mornings. She was always out doing something. But since she’s been home, she’s been doing things with Ethan. Now he wasn’t talking to her.

As her body relaxed, her mind drifted into a dream. Lately, she only dreamed of things she couldn’t have.

Ethan walked into the book café and took a seat near the back. He pulled out a newspaper to read in hopes to get his mind off the fact that Theresa was leaving for school today.

Not long after he arrived, Whitney walked in and took a seat at a nearby table. She didn’t see Ethan sitting behind her, and Ethan didn’t notice her either. That is until he heard her voice.

“What’s up Whit? Are you all packed?” Chad said coming near her.

“Yes, I’m just about done. Sure wish I could pack the fine gentlemen standing in front of me.” She said with a smile.

Chad blushed and replied to her wish. “Oh baby, just you wait. I’ll be coming back and forth from Harmony to New York so many times, I’ll probably out weigh my welcome.”

Whitney laughed. “I don’t think I would ever get tired of seeing you. I miss you already.” She said not looking as happy as before.

“Aw, don’t be sad today.” He said pulling a chair up next to her. “I hate sad goodbyes. Let’s just call it farewell.”

“You got it.” She said trying to smile again.

“How is Theresa?” He asked dreading the answer.

Ethan perked up a bit. He was curious himself how she was doing. He strained to hear the answer.

“Oh Chad. She’s not doing well at all. She’s so heart broken. I keep telling her to call him, but she just can’t seem to bring her self to do so.”

“Yeah, I think Ethan is the same way. He wants to call her, or go by and see her, but he too can’t bring himself to face her.”

“He tells me that he was such a jerk that night, and that there is no way Theresa would ever forgive him.”

“That’s not true. Theresa thinks that she’s the one who should apologize for putting him out that night. She thinks Ethan wants nothing to do with her.”

“This is terrible Whit. They’re both saying the same thing. I wish it were something we could do to get these two back together again. It’s so obvious that they love one another, but of course they are equally too stubborn to admit it. Such a sad thing.”

“I agree Chad. It is sad. And I hope Theresa calls him before we leave today. I would hate for her to fly back to New York without telling Ethan how she feels. She loves him, and I think he has a right to know.”

“Yeah, just like Theresa should know how much he loves her. But we need to stay out of it. They need to find themselves back to each other on their own. Not the help of two meddling friends.”

“Yeah, I guess you’re right Chad. I just wish I could mend my friends broken heart. But I think the only person that can do that is Ethan.”

Both Whitney and Chad stood up from the table.

“Are you taking us to the train station tonight?” She asked putting her arms around him.

“Of course. I’m not going to let you go without saying goodbye.”

“You mean farewell don’t you?” She said snickering.

Chad smiled as he pulled her close. “Yes, you’re right…farewell.”

“Okay, I’ll see you at 7:00pm. Our train leaves at 8:20.”

“Cool, I’ll be there. Sure wish I could get Ethan to come with me.”

“You just make sure you are there Mr. Harris.”

“Oh I’ll be there with bells on.” He said laughing.

Whitney giggled. “You can leave the bells at home.”

Chad leaned forward and pulled her into a deep fiery kiss. Afterwards, he walked her to the door and promised to see her later.

Not long after Whitney left, Ethan walked toward the front. Chad was surprised to see him.

“What’s up man? How long you been here?”

“I’ve been here a while. I was sitting in the back reading a paper.”

“That was you?” Chad said looking toward where he was sitting, and where he and Whitney were talking.

“Yep, that was me.”

“So I guess you heard me and Whit’s conversation hey?”

“Sure did.” He said tossing his paper on the stool next to him.

Ethan’s words were short and fatigued. His mind was heavily on Theresa now more than ever.

“So, what are you going to do about what you heard?” He said hoping that his buddy told him what he wanted to hear.

“I’m not sure Chad. I want to tell her I love her. I want to go to the Russell’s house, and scoop her up and tell her how much I want her, and how much I want to be with her.”

“What’s stopping you? Surely not me! And according to Whit, not Theresa either.”

“You’re right Chad. If Theresa loves me as much as Whitney says she does, then she’ll welcome me with opened arms right?”

“Yeah man. Go! Go get her Ethan. You two have been apart long enough. It’s time to tell her how you feel. And let me give you some advice.”

“What’s that?” Ethan said curious.

“Don’t hesitate! Tell the girl how you feel. Don’t be scared.”

“Me Ethan Crane, Scared?” He said nervously.

Chad laughed at his friend. “You can do it man. Go! Get out of here and go get your girl.”

Ethan shook his friend’s hand. “Thanks man. Thank you for being so supportive.”

“No problem. What are friends for?”

And on that note, Ethan walked out the café in a hot pursuit.
