--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
About 150 miles from Harmony, at a charming little motel, Ethan woke up with his beautiful bride wrapped in his arms.
She lay asleep in the cradle of his arm like a small child with a sweet smile on her face.
Ethan stared down at his wife and thanked God that he was blessed with such a treasure.
When they arrived at the Rose Garden Motel last night, they checked into and fell in love with the
honeymoon suite.
In the room sat a small fireplace with two large sofas, and end tables that held willow shade lamps. The
room was provided with a full kitchen area, even though it wouldn’t be needed. There were two glass
sliding doors with gold blinds that separated the patio and the bedroom. The bath was larger than the
kitchen area, which was equipped with a large basin tub as well as a Jacuzzi.
It wasn’t spectacular, but it was resplendent for the new Mr. and Mrs. Crane.
Ethan pulled his wife closer to him and kissed her lips.
“I love you Theresa.” He whispered.
He stared back down at her and heard her moan.
“Hmm.” Theresa sighed, stirring in Ethan’s arms and yawned.
Her eyes fluttered opened and she stared back into the eyes of the man who she promised to love for an
eternity.
“Good morning Mrs. Crane.” Ethan said brushing the hair from her face.
“Good morning husband.” She smiled sweetly at him.
“How did you sleep last night?” He said rubbing the top of her head.
Theresa wanted to give Ethan a response that she was sure he had never heard before.
“I laid under the covers of heaven.” She responded.
Ethan smiled at her.
“I hope that means you slept well.”
“Of course it does you silly man.”
“You feel so good wrapped in my arms. I don’t think I can let you go.”
“Well, I’m not sure if I want you to let me go. But I am sure my stomach wouldn’t like the fact that you are
keeping food from it.”
“I can fix that.” He said smiling.
Ethan pushed a button on the table that looked like it was attached to some kind of intercom. A voice
answered and addressed Ethan as if he was the President of the United States.
After Ethan ordered breakfast, he turned back to his beautiful wife and kissed her forehead.
“Five years ago, I never would have thought that I would be here with you at this very moment. Can you
tell me how I got so lucky?”
“I fell in love with you.” She said grinning.
“Oh, was that it?” He said kissing the top of her head.
“I like to think so.”
“Well I’m glad I didn’t stay in denial for too long.”
“Yeah, but it sure was long enough. I didn’t think you were ever going to admit your feelings for me.”
“I was stupid. I can’t believe all the time we spent together that year, and it took me so long to finally admit
it to you.”
“Well it wasn’t like you weren’t attached to someone. You were dating Gwen; not to mention engaged to
her. Now that I look back on it you did drop her pretty fast when you realized you were in love with me.”
“Theresa, Gwen is the last person I want to talk about the first morning of our honeymoon.”
“You’re right I’m sorry. Thank you for last night.”
“You were great as well. Was that a new trick you did with you tongue.” He said laughing.
“I’m not thanking you for the love making silly, I was talking about Whit and Chad showing up last night.”
“Well I know how disappointed you were that we didn’t have that big fancy wedding you dreamed of.”
“Honey, my concern is not the wedding, it’s the marriage. And we are going to have a perfect one. I love
you Ethan. Always have and always will.”
“Good, because I love you too Theresa. Always have and always will.”
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
After three weeks of dining and wine and the best performance under the sheets, Theresa and Ethan
returned to Harmony to begin their new life as a married couple.
Their families were very upset that they eloped, but threw them a huge reception anyhow.
Several weeks later Theresa and Ethan went to visit Chad and Whitney.
Whitney’s doctor put her on bed rest because she had been having complications in this last month of her
pregnancy. She was very worried that something would go wrong in delivering the baby.
Chad was also worried but never let the anxiety show in his face. He wanted to stay strong for his wife. It
was bad enough that she panicked about every little thing, he didn’t want to let her see him troubled.
“What did Chad say when you told him we were coming over?”
“He was glad. Whitney needs to see you Theresa. He said that she’s worried about the baby, and that if any
one could cheer her up it would be you.”
Theresa grabbed Ethan’s hand as they drove to their best friend’s house. Ethan could see the fidget look
come across Theresa’s face as she squeezed his hand tight.
“Look honey, I don’t want you to worry too. That won’t do Whitney any good.”
“I know Ethan. It’s just I’m not sure what to say to her or how to cheer her up.”
Ethan held his wife’s hand tighter.
“Theresa you are the most loving, most caring person I know. When you see your friend you’ll know what to
say.”
Theresa tried to give Ethan that beautiful smile he loved so, but he could still read the uneasiness in his
beautiful wife’s eyes.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
“So Chad, how are you holding up?” Ethan asked his friend while taking a seat on the sofa crossing his leg.
Chad waited until Theresa left the room to see Whitney.
“Man I am so scared. I’m trying to stay strong for Whitney, but I think she can read me like a book.”
“I’m sure you’re keeping up a good front.”
“I don’t know man. When I look in her eyes, I can see the terror. It’s makes me draw her closer to me to
reassure her that every thing is going to work out. But I’m sure she can feel my anxiety. She can feel the
pain I’m feeling. I know she does.”
“Chad don’t beat yourself up about this. Whitney knows you love her and is here for her no matter what
happens.”
“Ethan, at night after we go to bed and she thinks I’m asleep, she cries. God how I hate that. There’s
nothing I can do. I can’t carry that baby for her or ease her pain. It tears me apart every night.”
Ethan puts his hand to Chad’s shoulder as Chad reaches for a tissue to wipe the tears from his face.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
“Hi honey, how are we feeling?” Theresa said sitting on the side of Whitney’s bed.
“Hi Theresa. I don’t know how you’re feeling, but I’ve had better days.”
“You know Whit, for a pregnant woman who is almost due, you sure are beautiful.”
Whitney couldn’t help but to smile at her friend’s kind words.
“You think so huh? My nose is huge, my hands are pudgy, and I’m as big as a house.”
“Well I wouldn’t say house, maybe a trailer.” Theresa said laughing.
Whitney gave out a chuckle.
“I’m glad you’re here Theresa. I love you very much, and I’m glad you and Ethan came by.”
“I love you too Whit. And as soon as this little rug rat is born, it’s going to be hard to keep us away.”
Whitney smiled once again before grabbing Theresa’s hand.
“Theresa, I wish you can say something to cheer Chad up. He’s really trying to be strong for me but he
thinks he’s failing. If it weren’t for Chad, I would’ve given up a long time ago. He is the most wonderful
husband a girl could ever want.”
“I know he is Whit. But I’m sure that Ethan is talking to him right now. If any one can make him feel better,
Ethan can.”
“Chad and I want to talk to you guys. Will you hand me my housecoat? Let’s go out in the front room.”
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Theresa and Whitney went out to where their husbands sat on the sofa chatting.
When Chad saw Whitney waddle out of the bedroom, he ran to her side.
“Come on dear. Come sit next to me.”
Ethan stood up and sat in one of the huge comfy chairs as Theresa took her seat on his lap.
After Theresa and Ethan told their friends about their glorious honeymoon, Whitney and Chad got serious.
Chad poured Theresa and Ethan some champagne and Whitney some sparkling cider.
“Well you two,” Chad said looking at the newly weds. “Whitney and I believe that we have two of the best
friends people could ever ask for.”
Theresa and Ethan smiled at one another.
“When I first came to Harmony, I was a kid from the streets. But fate smiled down on me and gave me some
wonderful friends. I don’t know what my life would have been like if it wasn’t for all of you guys.”
Whitney took her husband’s hand and continued.
“Theresa and I have been friends since we were babies. There is no one else I want to share the birth of
our first born with other than her. We have been through a lot. Boy trouble, school, parents, the list is
endless. And yet through it all you, Theresa, have been with me every step of the way.”
Chad pulled his wife closer to him and went on.
“Well what my wife and I are trying to say is, we talked about this, and there wasn’t any other choice that
could have been made.”
The Crane’s looked at their friends suspiciously.
Whitney continued. “Chad and I want you to be the God-Parents of our baby as well as the ones that will
come after.”
Ethan and Theresa were flabbergasted. They didn’t know what to say.
Of course their answer was yes, and they took the rest of the night celebrating with their friends and
enjoying the rest of the evening.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
A week later Theresa came home from work and found Ethan sitting at the dining room table with ten beer cans, a bottle of brandy, and a large envelope in front of him.
Theresa could tell that something was wrong with him. She had never seen him this drunk or upset.
She walked to his side, kneeled down, and put her hand up to his shoulder.
“Ethan honey is every thing all right?”
Ethan looked at Theresa and she could see the red flaring in his eyes. They were cold and calculating. Ethan had never looked at her like that. In fact the only mean look he ever gave her was at the restaurant table the night she and Noah showed up when he and Gwen were there.
Ethan had told Theresa that it wasn’t Noah she loved but it was he. He wanted to grab Theresa that night and make her see that, but she ran out of the restaurant crying.
He had followed her to his private beach house and made her see that his choice was not Gwen, but she was.
Ethan stood up from the table with the envelope in his hand and Theresa followed.
“Ethan darling, what’s the matter?” She said starting to worry.
Ethan turned and faced his wife of almost two months.
“Did you and Chuck really date? Did you really ever love him?”
Theresa couldn’t imagine where this line of questioning was coming from or where it was going.
“What do you mean Ethan?” She said trying to stay calm.
“You know what I mean dammit! Now answer me! Did you and Chuck ever date?”
Theresa turned her back towards Ethan with a worried look on her face.
“He must know.” She whispered to herself.
“It’s no use thinking of a lie Theresa. I know the truth. I know all of it.”
Ethan threw the envelope on the table. Theresa glanced down at the words written on the front of it.
TO MR. ETHAN CRANE! URGENT! OPEN RIGHT AWAY!
“This envelope came to the chapel the night of our wedding. I started to open it then, but my beautiful, yet conniving, lying bride was coming in, and I couldn’t see nothing but the love shining in her eyes.”
Fear was starting to cloud Theresa’s mind. Somehow Ethan knew the contents of her diary. Every personal and intimate thought of it.
His words cut like daggers. She felt every stab of pain that shot from his mouth straight to her heart. She wanted to tell Ethan the truth about everything, but was scared of his reaction.
Now she was feeling the wrath of his anger and was scared of what would happen next.
How could she fix things with him? Will he forgive her for all her schemes? Or was this it? Will he walk out and leave her? Will he leave all the love they invested in their five-year relationship?
The fear was unbearable. Theresa could feel her mouth suddenly dry up. There were no words she could say to Ethan at this very moment.
There was no doubt that he was furious. But he had every right to be. Theresa hadn’t been totally honest with him, and now she was paying for every mistake she made.
The hate in Ethan’s eyes was enough to kill her ten times over.
He didn’t wait for a response from her. He grabbed his car keys and his jacket and left their apartment without another word.
Theresa screamed his name as he slammed the door. She fell to her knees and covered her face in her hands as she cried.
This was it. She didn’t know what to do or say.
She sat in the apartment alone with no one to turn to.
Her husband was gone.
