*******************************

Theresa slept soundly in her bed. It was nearly 10am and she still hadn’t rose for the day.

It was the best sleep she’s had in months. So many things were happening all at once, and it was a wonder she survived it all.

Her and Ethan were engaged to get married, and planned on living the fairy tale ending with a happily ever after. But something went drastically wrong.

Theresa had saved important documents on her computer pertaining to Ethan’s paternity. He was actually the son of Harmony’s PD chief of police, Sam Bennett.

Even though he wasn’t a true Crane, she still wanted to marry him because she loved him with all of her heart. But she had lied so many times and it became harder to handle her dishonesty.

He was willing to go on with the wedding, but she had run off and left town in hopes of finding Julian. She thought Julian might consider reinstating Ethan as a Crane.

If Julian decided to allow Ethan back into the family, then all their troubles would be over, and maybe he wouldn’t blame her for the tabloids receiving the information from her computer.

But something went awry. Julian led Theresa to believe that he would take Ethan back as his son, and ordered lots of champagne to celebrate the merger.

One thing led to another, and Theresa and Julian ended up marrying each other in a drunken stupor and consummating their union.

This was just another secret Theresa kept from Ethan, but it didn’t last long. Once back in Harmony, Ethan eventually found out that Julian and the love of his life were husband and wife.

Ethan worked real hard to get the marriage annulled, but little did he know Theresa consummated their marriage and became pregnant.

Ivy, Ethan’s mom, figured out that Julian and Theresa made love on their wedding night, and that she was pregnant with his child. She saw this as an opportunity to finally get her son away from what she believed to be a conniving bitch.

Ivy made Ethan promise that he would leave Theresa for good if she lied to him again, and he agreed, not thinking she would be dishonest with him.

Needless to say, Ethan’s heart broke in a million pieces when he found out she was carrying the Crane heir. How could he ever trust her again? It was impossible. Theresa had proven that she couldn’t be trusted, and he called off their engagement, and vowed never to be with her again.

During the pregnancy, Theresa tried to win Ethan’s love back but failed. There was nothing she could do to make him trust in her again. It was over.

She, however, wasn’t going to give up, and Ivy and Rebecca wasn’t going to give up until they saw the newest Mrs. Crane out the way.

One day, while in the Crane Mansion, Theresa stumbled across a strange videotape with Ethan and Julian’s name written on it. She was curious of its contents and popped it in the tape player.

When the picture came into view, she noticed Julian standing on what seemed like some type of ledge in a cannery, but wasn’t sure what he was doing, or why he was even there until she saw Ethan with a gun in his hand.

Not soon after she realized what this could be, Ethan fired the gun, shooting Julian in the chest, and having him fall into a large vat of tuna to his death.

Theresa couldn’t believe what she was seeing. Her mind went crazy with worry. She now knew Ethan had murdered his ex father because of her, and she didn’t want to see him suffer for something that was her fault to begin with.

After collecting her thoughts on what to do, she finally realized that she must confess to the murder herself.

As time went on Theresa stuck to her story. She didn’t want anyone to find out that it was really Ethan who killed Julian. She figured that since she was now an official Crane by the court of law that Alistair would somehow protect her from being sentenced to life in prison, or worst, death by lethal injection.

When the sentence came back guilty, and that Theresa would indeed die, she wouldn’t give up hope that she would be pardoned at the last second. But that second never came.

After the first injection, exhaustion began to overtake her body, and she’d realized that this was the end. Wanting to cry out, she screamed over and over in her mind that it wasn’t her. She wanted everyone to know that she hadn’t killed Julian, but it was too late.

Hours later, after her family mourned her death, a miracle occurred. She actually hadn’t died. Alistair made sure that she was alive and well for his purpose, and pleasure.
*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*

Theresa slowly rose from her bed feeling refreshed and rested. She wished the last twelve months of her life would magically disappear, but she knew that wasn’t possible. She had to make the best out of a terrible situation.

She walked over to Ethan Martin’s bassinet but found a small note instead.

“Good morning Mija. I wanted you to rest so I took my grandson downstairs for breakfast. I hope you enjoyed your rest. We anxiously await your presence, so hurry down soon.
Love, mama.”

Theresa smiled and folded the note placing it on her dresser. She couldn’t wait to get downstairs to hold her son in her arms. He was so precious, and didn’t want to spend even a second without him.

After her bath, Alistair sent servants in to attend to her every need. Theresa wasn’t sure if she wanted to be treated like a queen of a far off land, but it didn’t hurt. She wished this type of treatment more however, for her mother than her own self.

They dressed her in a white sleeveless silk gown, accessorize with creamy white pearl earrings and necklace. They placed white sandals on her feet, and sprayed the finest perfume on her.

They placed baby’s breath in her hair that was eloquently done up in a glamorous style.

“Why are you ladies going through so much trouble dressing me?” Theresa asked.

The women kept silent. They continued on with their work as if she spoke not a word.

“Did you hear what I said?” Theresa continued.

Right then her bedroom door opened wide. Alistair stepped into view, and gasped at the vision of loveliness that stood before him.

“Ahh, Theresa my dear.” He said stepping inside the room. “You are as lovely as a princess.”

Theresa looked at Alistair with confusion in her eyes. Finally, she found the words to speak.

“I’m not a princess.” She snapped. “I’m just Theresa. Theresa Lopez-Fitzgerald.”

Alistair walked around her sizing her up and giving his approval to the lady servants that primped her, and shooed them to be excused.

Once they were out of the room, Alistair took Theresa by both hands.

You are right Theresa. You’re not a princess. You are a queen. You are the queen of the Crane Empire.

Theresa’s voice shook. “I don’t, I’m not.” She couldn’t find the words to say.

Alistair began to stroke Theresa’s hand. She wasn’t sure why he was even in her room. He made her very nervous, and she wanted him to leave, but couldn’t bring herself to tell him those words.

“I’m sure you are wondering why I had my servants come in to you this late morning, and most importantly, why I’m here.”

“The thought did cross my mind.” She said cautiously.

“Theresa, don’t be nervous. You are safe with me. You will have to learn to trust me.”

“Trust you?” Theresa pulled her hands quickly out of his grip. “There’s no way I could trust you. I nearly died because you wanted to play God with my life.”

Alistair chuckled. “God? If I were God, the little insignificant people wouldn’t get in my way as they often do.”

Theresa frowned. “You are referring to my family, right?”

She walked over to her bedroom window and noticed a string of cars. Not at all fancy ones. They looked like they belong to her friends and family.

“Why are there so many cars outside?” She said turning to face him.

Alistair walked closer to his new daughter in law. “Those are the vehicles of the people closest to you.”

“Why…why are they here?”

“I invited them. I thought you would like to see them. They were asked here to witness a miracle. None of your friends know you are alive.”

Theresa walked toward her vanity. “Why the elaborate dress, jewelry and my hair?”

Theresa placed her soft fingers across her pearls and admired how beautiful she looked.

Alistair walked toward her, stopping directly behind her.

“You look this way because of who you are. You are the one and only Lady of this house. From now on, you will be known as Lady Crane.”

Theresa was so choked up. She couldn’t believe the most powerful man in Harmony accepted her as his daughter.

“Now, there are people waiting to see you, not to mention the press. You and I will give a formal statement to the news papers concerning your return.”

“And Julian?” Theresa cringed at the thought of that bastard being her husband.

“I’ll deal with my son. You just leave Julian in my hands.”

He turned Theresa around to face him. He grabbed her hand and kissed it lightly. He could feel how nervous she was to accept the title as the Lady of the house. He would see her through however.

“Now, give me that award winning smile that I love to see. There will be many cameras, and I don’t want one picture with you not looking your best.”

Theresa placed a smile on her face, took Alistair by the arm as he lead her down stairs to the Crane’s ballroom.

Right before the doors opened, she could hear an announcer saying, “Introducing the lady of this house, Mrs. Theresa Crane.”
