Date Posted: 16:52:09 01/12/05 Wed In reply to: Mael 's message, "World of Warcraft" on 11:03:24 01/10/05 Mon Well, I'm now lvl 40 on warcraft, out of 60, it really didn't take very long, but for the horde, they are currently lacking in low 30's quests, i hear that it isnt a problem for alliance though. I have a lvl 24, 21, 35, and 40 btw. You can hit lvl 10 by playing a couple hours, lvl 20 by a couple days of casual play time. The quests are great because generally you set up camp at a new town, and get quests to kill the stuff around it. There is NO reliance on other players, even if you choose to be a healer. No APP, total soloability throughout the game, I rarely group and when I do, it's for a very short time. Even against elite mobs, I wait until I'm high enough to solo the whole instance myself, and than do it, rather than group. The quests usually have very good directions, and it really takes the grind feel away that most mmo's have, because your doing a bunch of missions, that actively update on screen as you do them, instead of just going and fighting some mobs to grind on. It's alot like a MMO diablo, only you generally fight 1 mob at a time or 2-3 at most, not hordes of cows coming to the slaughter. As far as the map...well it's kind of hard to say, I've never really felt restricted, although I would say it's more like FFXI map than SWG, because in swg, they just spawned a huge flat terrain going in all directions and scattered things about it, and although the freedom of travel and exploration was nice, there was nothing to explore. In wow, the area's each have a map and as you explore u get exp for uncovering new "darkened" areas of the map. There are no zones, other than the continent travel there is no loading, also instances have loading. They do however sometimes make mountains too steep to walk up, especially when they are between an alliance area and a horde area. But there are tons of areas to go to, and they all connect very well, and wide open, not like ffxi where u walk the mountainside until you get to a little opening to get to the next area. As far as cons, I would definatly say I'm not sure I would have chosen a pvp server if I could go back and change my choice. While it's not a problem if your not alone, when you get attacked by higher level alliance players, especially those in groups, it can lead to major frustration. Alot of times I'll be doing a quest just to have some rogue sneak up on me and lame me, or a mage start nuking me, but when it's a fair fight, i dont mind dying. The death penalty is nothing, a couple points off the durability of your items and nothing more. On the horde side all the characters are generally pretty damn ugly too, except for tauren who are just cool. But tauren have pretty restricted choice in classes. Another con would be higher lvl abilities, cause now that I hit 40, everything will be just an upgrade of the skills I already have, so it's basically just looking for gear, getting to max lvl, and pvp now. Until they add the honor pvp system (kind of like swg's faction system), and hero classes. The game itself is more fun than any mmo i've played so far though, and the warcraft style and feel to it are great. The first time I went to the Ruins of Lorderon (The Undercity) I stopped and just looked around for a good 10 min, at the throne room where arthus killed his father. Although in an undead and dying land, you could still see remnants of the paladins that once lived there. Light floods the room from above on the lorderon crest just before the kings throne. Another con I would have to say is the lack of the music being there or changing, the music isnt bad they just need much more of it. Alot of times I'm walking around there isnt much music, so I tend to put my own on. I can't really think of anything else at the moment, the gameplay is alot of fun. I like too, how if a high level decided to go attack a low level town and take all the noobs to school, the noobs and the guards would be able to stop them. I wasnt there to witness it, but a guy in my guild told everyone how a band of lvl 20's took down 2 lvl 60's while helping the guards.
