I looked through the 127 screen shots of WoW and I am totally going to buy it. I think it be ALOT funner than SWG for several reasons.
First, the variety of terrain and its "uneveness". The land isn't flat like in most other mmorps. It has hills and slopes and every part looks different. The towns also look different in the screenshots, adding their own distinct feel as well. Again, in swg the land is flat and almost symmetrical and the towns only look different by where the buildings are placed.
Second, there is a larger amount of items in WoW which give u a better sense of feeling unique rather than just looking slightly different from the next guy. They also have 1 of a kind weapons that only u can possibly have, even though you or me may never get one the idea is still nice.
Third, the objects, such as buildings, trees, and characters have that Alice in Wonderland kind of look. Everything is unique and is slightly over exaggerated, which gives it an appearence that will keep u looking. In SWG they try to promote exploring by giving people badges and having "theme parks" but one area hardly looks different from the next. In WoW each area appears to have its own qualities that none other share, specifically monsters with a distinct appearence thats only in that area. In SWG u can find 10+ different Peko-Peko's, all with different names and slightly different appearence, but it still feels like you are fighting the same monster.
Forth, the goal in WoW is too defeat the orcs, or elves, or humans depending who you are. SWG has no goal, at least no obvious one. To participate in the storyline of SWG you have to do these boring side quest of running around and killing easy enemies and dropping off materials.... You partake in the storyline of WoW simply by killing the enemy where you can, much funner IMO.
Last, WoW will focus more on NPC's than SWG does. Why is this important? So when there are no players around you dont feel like you are in the middle of nowhere, lonely. The NPC's in SWG have simple dialogue's all based around either "Im not talking to you." or "I need you to do this for me.". There is no real feel that you are talking to a thinking character, rather a machine. In WoW the NPC's will talk back with some personality, perhaps offer you a drink, maybe even join u on a short quest. It will add alot more immersion to the game feeling like you aren't the only person within 5 cities.
Last, Blizzard has never really disappointed with a game. Sure, WC3 had its problems specifically online, but that has more to do with hackers than anything. Just about every one of their games as been a big hit. SOE, however, received alot of dissapointment when SWG came out. And Everquest reppeled alot of players , like me, who enjoy games with more manueverability and less stiffness. All the blizzard games I have tried and enjoyed, and even have most of them. I would never even try Everquest and SWG is a disapointment for the most part. I do enjoy it sometimes but alot of the times it feels like im playing a slower version of WWIIOL where im playing more because im expecting the better stuff to come the next patch. And it doesn't, but i still play expecting even the next one.
Yes, I will still play SWG....until WoW comes out. I suppose if SWG gets alot better, say....they add the space expansion before WoW comes out and its not a total peice of trash, I might still play it. But, as far as im concerned right now, im getting WoW as soon as I can and definatly trying it out. And, I doubt I will be disapointed.
