Just think these through:-

a: At a human level it's in the quest for contentment and true understanding of the nature of wider existence. It can be at a conscious or subconscious level.

b: There had always been a void (a nothingness). A character of this void was emotion and reason. Both of these facits are intangible and independent of the laws of time and extence as we know them. Therefore they could exist and not exist at the same time. Add to this the paradox that a void cannot be content without an understanding of itself.

Existence/the power that many call God (in all it's forms) is that vehicle for understanding. It's simple cause and effect. The cause is discontent with reason, the effect is the coming into existence of the matter that exploded into what we now call the big bang. Something came from nothing as was required by reason. Advances in quamtum physics demonstrates that this is theoretically and demonstratably possible.

There is a cliche "that we are all made of space dust". We are that existence. Along with extra terrestrial life we will in the far far future evolve and continue to acquire knowledge until a point is reached when we no longer need physical means to express and secure understanding and contentment. We will evolve to a form that is pure energy. All life forms will merge into one content and understanding consciousness. We are made up from the same matter as the planets, stars and so forth. It is then very easy to surmise that we are a part of the process, as is the universe and existence generally.

Regarding how it will end. As far as the physical matter is concerned, the only logic is that there must be a big crunch in the extreme far future, followed by the simultaneous quashing of physical matter's existence. Possibly this could happen without the need for a big crunch. The end result is the same.

Reason and understanding would be all that was left in the void that remained. The void would be content. Enter the last paradox. With contentment there would be no further need for reason or understanding.

The process ends with a content void, a nothingness without dimensions. It does not take much to surmise that this process is only required to happen once.
