Made me chuckle.

Having lived in the same house as Noel, and worked beside him for several years I can say hand on heart he led a very frugal life.

His slippers, cardigans, jackets etc were threadbare and beyond before replacing. He lived in a small room in a house occupied by 30-40 others, no en-suite for him, he shared the same bathrooms as everyone else.

The whole finance thing always makes me chuckle. Sure, the JA have money making businesses but have also closed non-profit making ventures as would any other operation. Much of the perceived profits are I'm sure related to the wage structure in place which likely exascerbates profit.

Also yes, the JA do own property but if you have the money to purchase then surely that's the most cost effective way to do things rather than accrue interest charges?

In my ten years or so of closer association with the JA I saw no financial impropriety and living in the Northants viscinity see no evidence of that having changed in the last five years.

The way people leaving are treated at times leaves a lot to be desired but that varies from household to household, elder to elder. It's an easy target for a broad sweeping brush.
