It is true that there was a hell of a lot of pressure on people not to leave the hall. Noel wopuld point you out and say something benign-sounding, like "is our brother in trouble?"

and you would think, "I bloody well will be if I don't get to a toilet." but the brethren would corcle you and lay hands on you etc.

I remember getting hacked off at Nene once and going out and Dave Res (Hawker) coming after me and then chasing me half way across the racecourse. He had long legs...I had no chance of out-running him. They couldn't just let people be when they wanted time out.

You would try to creep out to the toilet and Noel would say, "beware, the devil is a lion, seeking whom he may devour" and you'd think, "I am not the devil, I just need a pee, for god's sake".

And they WERE VERY long meetings, hours and hours of Noel ranting...and that was after you had spent the night before potato picking under floodlights before the long drive home from the farm to Warwickshire.

I remnember always being tired...and always needing a pee.
