Lets let scripture interprate scripture shall we?

It was always said by the prophets that Jehovah would be seen during the Day-of-Jehovah O.T. judgments. The prophets wrote that Jehovah came down and did a whole host of physical, visible things upon earth. Jehovah enters into the action as one fully visible and physical. That's the way the prophets spoke. For example:

Zechariah 9:13-14
For I have bent Judah for me, I have filled the bow with Ephraim; and I will stir up your sons, Zion, against your sons, Greece, and will make you as the sword of a mighty man. YAHWEH SHALL BE SEEN OVER THEM; and his arrow shall go forth as the lightning; and the Lord Yahweh will blow the trumpet, and will go with whirlwinds of the south.

Ezekiel 20:47-48
Thus says the Lord Yahweh, Behold, I will kindle a fire in you, and it shall devour every green tree in you, and every dry tree: the flaming flame shall not be quenched, and all faces from the south to the north shall be burnt thereby. All flesh SHALL SEE THAT I, YAHWEH, HAVE KINDLED IT; it shall not be quenched.

Lamentations 2:1-2,4-7,17
How doth the Lord cloud in His anger the daughter of Zion, He hath cast from heaven earth the beauty of Israel, And hath not remembered His footstool in the Day of His anger. Swallowed up hath the Lord, He hath not pitied any of the pleasant places of Jacob, He hath broken down in His wrath The fortresses of the daughter of Judah, He hath caused to come to the earth, He polluted the kingdom and its princes... He hath trodden His bow as an enemy, Stood hath His right hand as an adversary, And He slayeth all the desirable ones of the eye, In the tent of the daughter of Zion, He hath poured out as fire His fury. The Lord hath been as an enemy, He hath swallowed up Israel, He hath swallowed up all her palaces, He hath destroyed His fortresses, And He multiplieth in the daughter of Judah Mourning and moaning. And He shaketh as a garden His tabernacle, He hath destroyed His appointed place, Jehovah hath forgotten in Zion the appointed time and sabbath, And despiseth, in the indignation of His anger, king and priest. The Lord hath cast off His altar, He hath rejected His sanctuary, He hath shut up into the hand of the enemy The walls of her palaces, A noise they have made in the house of Jehovah Like a Day of appointment...Jehovah hath done that which He devised

Deuteronomy 33:2
Yahweh came from Sinai, rose from Seir to them; He shined forth from Mount Paran, He came from the ten thousands of holy ones: At his right hand was a fiery law for them.

Judges 5:4-5
Yahweh, when you went forth out of Seir, When you marched out of the field of Edom, The earth trembled, the sky also dropped, Yes, the clouds dropped water. The mountains quaked at the presence of Yahweh, Even Sinai at the presence of Yahweh, the God of Israel.

This is just the tip of the iceberg. The passages above show us that Jehovah would BE SEEN doing a great many physical things, and we could add so many other passages to this to prove that this is simply the way the prophets understood the "Day of the Lord." Yahweh did not have to in any way physically appear to fulfill the words of the prophets. In fact, they KNEW that he did NOT physically appear to do all these things which they said he would VISIBLY and PHYSICALLY do.

Additionally, the cloud-coming that "every eye would see" of Revelation 1:7 is fully shown us in Revelation 14:14-20--the passage cleary shows an event that takes place in the heavenlies.
