The Father of Banamali Lahiru was Abhaya Charan, a son of Tinkori.

Tinkori had six sons of whom two received special permission to teach, Abhoy Charan (Abhaya)(2nd son) and Tara Charan (4th son).

Satyeswarananda lists Banamali as disciple of Abhaya. This means that Banamali and Shibendu were cousins.

I have heard that Banamali has passed away recently.

Shibendu mentioned that to his knowledge he (Shibendu) is presently the only one of his family teaching Kriya.

No mention of his giving Kriya at that time.

Shibendu started touring when in 1989 he visited both SRF and Ananda on invitation, possibly on invitation by private people also.

Shibendu assumed his role as a Kriya teacher in 1988 only, and this at first hesitatingly because he was not sure whether he could really manage this task. Hence at first he asked Ashoke Chatterjee to do the job, but the disciples of his father urged him to take up the job himself, as determined by his father, and this he did. This is what I was told by Shibendu.

Shibendu started traveling regularly only after the mentioned US trip, so I think by 1989 he was still virtually unknown and had not made a name for himself yet. People started to flock to him around 1989/90 including some long-standing European devotees who are still with him. Only a minority of his disciples have an SRF background.
