Thank you for your wonderful insight on Inara. I had the same thought that she was quite the mother goddess figure, bestowing a benediction on Book, the good Shepherd. Strange dichotomy, those two. That her faith--in God, in man, in herself--is possibly stronger than his.

Mal kissing that cross was simple and beautiful and told so much in so little time. It explains everything, and nothing, at the same time. I like how Zoe is very much Mal's other half, playing both devil's advocate and guardian angel. In the kitchen when everybody's talking at once about what to do with Simon and River, Zoe is the only one not spouting her opinion. She doesn't need to because while she is willing to question Mal's judgement, she knows when to speak up and when not to. She knows that he's the captain and she will back him all the way.

Loved the bit with Wash's dinosaurs. So much of the story foretold in that little playacting. Poor stegosaurus that got eaten. Ol' T-Rex couldn't help his predatory nature, unfortunately. But I can hope Jayne will overcome his.

Beautiful analysis, as always, fresne...
