My VCR also cut out, with about 20m to go; but at least I was able to watch and didn't have to put all my trust in the clunky old thing.

Anyway. Kaylee, Simon, and Book are trying to hold the fort at the airlock where Serenity is docked. Book is very good; Simon isn't, but he's trying; Kaylee either shoots once or is shot at once - she panics, drops her gun, and dives for cover. Right about that time River comes strolling out like it's a fine spring day in the park. She picks up Kaylee's gun and pokes her head out into the passageway like she's some sort of sightseer, but one or more of the three bad guys down that way fire at her and she quickly ducks back, shaking and whimpering to herself. (I think it was, "Can't look, can't look, can't look...") Then she stands, spins, and immediately fires three shots in quick succession - without looking, from the hip. Reverse camera, and all three gangsters are dead. The shooting stopped, both River and Kaylee survey River's handiwork, and River calmly, even coldly, says, "No power in the 'verse can stop me." The scariest thing, I thought, was the total lack of expression in her voice when she said that. Even "He looks better in red" sounded more lively.
