>>> I do blame ME, for choosing, either deliberately, or thoughtlessly, to antagonize some of its audience when it can't afford to lose any of them.

Well, I'm sure it wasn't thoughtless, as I doubt Joss Whedon ever had any intention in pandering to the religious right. So, I imagine that the antagonism was deliberate.

My difficulty with your argument is that it is the argument of mediocre television. Do absolutely nothing to offend anyone. The problem is that when you offend no one, you also appeal to no one. Nearly, every scene in last week's episode carries the potential to offend some person or group, largely because it is a powerful episode. I will argue that the scene with Inara and the councilor were no more offensive than the torture scenes or the gun battle scenes. There are groups of poeple who will object to each, depending upon their own "hot buttons".

>>> If they get renewed, I don't care, Inara can switch to an all-female clientele and they can show blood pouring out of every orifice when the Blue Hand Guys use their tuning- forks-of-death.

If we remove all that is offensive, will the resulting show be worth watching? Well yes, probably by the same drones who would enjoy the standard old sitcoms.
