The other Serenity crew members may have been in a ship rushing away from Reavers and succeeded in blowing them up, but, really, that ship could have been piloted by anybody and it really wouldn't have changed what happened. There's a difference between being chased by a spaceship and meeting its occupants face to face. "Bushwhacked" was the first episode where they got to see, firsthand, what set the Reavers apart.
