Did the TbTHoB guys remind anyone else of The Gentlemen? There was just something about them - the way they moved, posture, gestures, mannerisms... I don't know.

Of course Simon knows he didn't kill the guard - he heard the guy's scream when the TbTHoB finished him off with that magic wand. But to tell you the truth, I have to disagree with the consensus that seems to be shaping up that Simon intentionally spared the guard. Yes, Simon is a doctor, and a good one, and has vast knowledge of the human body etc etc. And that knowledge will serve him well if he ever gets into a fight with someone who's comatose, or under general anaesthesia. Against a live opponent, not so much. With his hands bound so that he had to kneel on the guard's neck, even less.

I don't think he had the opportunity (even if he were experienced at this sort of thing, which he is not) to precisely measure the force he was applying with his knees. I don't think he intentionally spared the guard's life. I don't think he particularly cared about the guard's life at that point. There may be some fallout from this later on - I could see it going either way. Maybe the big guilt, because he's a doctor and was willing to kill; or maybe not, because he did it for River's sake. (Do we know what was involved in breaking River out in the first place? What Simon has already had to do for her?)
