] Date Posted: 13:59:34 01/24/05 Mon In reply to: Dave (UK) 's message, "Hmmm" on 22:18:34 12/01/04 Wed >>>Australia is certainly a determined ally of the USA (especially under the Howard government), but it is quite reasonable to argue that we don't count as a real ally in terms of our ability to make a serious difference on the ground.<<< i dont think that is true, sure we cannot provide raw numbers, but out guys have made some huge differences in Afghanistan and Iraq, and lets not foget its not as though we havent been doing our own things in Timor and the Solomons. But in Iraq alone i think SAS special forces, 4RAR commandos, Chinook helos, Navy diving teams, 3 warships (which took part in bombardmants of Al Faw, and captured Iraqi mine layers), a squadron of F/A-18 hornet fighters involved in CAS and CAP duties(Close Air Support and Combat Air patrol), orion ASW/spy/control planes, hercules transports, soldiers from 2RAR and 3RAR and ASLAV armoured vehicles, as well as specialist and support teams, i think that though small compared the US and the UK, they made a real difference and the figures agianst the enemy prove that.
