] Date Posted: 17:24:30 01/07/05 Fri I am planning a two-week visit to the UK next July. I will be in the South of England. I read about a place called Melton Mowbray in Leicestershire which is famous for its pork pies. Does anyone here know: Are these pies served hot or cold? Are they any good? Real tasty? They sound wonderful. [ Next Thread | Previous Thread | Next Message | Previous Message ] |

Date Posted: 17:55:16 01/07/05 Fri The pies are cold. They contain a mysterious pink meat surrounded by a suspicious-looking jelly. They are shaped like the eponymous hats. I do not keep the kosherdik, since I like bacon sandwiches and oysters too much, but if anything were to tempt me into Chassidism, it would be those pies. Beware the ones with a boiled egg inside them, like a grape or berry in a Japanese mochi or yantowa. However, my brother, who is braver than me and lives in Leicestershire these days, eats them regularly and assures me that they are delicious. Evidently, they are tastier than they look. My other half is also from Leicestershire and is also much addicted to the things. And in any case, Melton Mowbray is a lovely little town, even if it is in the Midlands. You'll enjoy the town even if, like me, the pies give you the willies. [ Post a Reply to This Message ] |

Well thats ok becuase presuming he is a christian then the fact that Jesus doenst eat bacon is fine because he isnt a God. And secondly there is a pssage in the bible on the subject of pig meat. God tells one a christian very clearly that he has no right to call any of Gods creations unclean and that he should he eat pig meat. Of course Ian could well be an Atheist anyway. Date Posted: 18:35:22 01/08/05 Sat So, Jesus didn't eat bacon and eggs. More fool him, but what has that got to do with me? I certainly don't believe that a character from a book created the universe. But then, the list of things that I don't believe in is almost infinite, so I don't really see why I should be defined simply in terms of one of my non-beliefs. [ Post a Reply to This Message ] |
