] Date Posted: 20:03:19 01/15/05 Sat In reply to: jANE aUSTEN 's message, "Pride and prejudice" on 19:33:53 01/15/05 Sat Even if you speak The Queen's English it is not spelled phonetically, so why attempt to spell it phonetically for other dialects? Are we so patronising as to suggest that people outside MFB (that's Mayfair, Fitzrovia, Bloomsbury to you scumbag provincials) are so stupid that they can not be expected to understand language which is not "spelled the way it sounds" as we can? In my opinion, that is the height of prejudice: insisting that people who speak regional dialects are unable to spell properly is narrow-minded and snobbish. Date Posted: 20:11:50 01/15/05 Sat Nah mate - you're missing the point. We were each having a laugh at our own stereotypical dialects, no-one else’s. [ Post a Reply to This Message ] |
