Subject: Wikipage

Date Posted: 17:51:50 11/12/04 Fri

I've decided to create a new thread to keep track of the changes at Wikipedia, since most people would probably prefer to read them here rather than on Wiki's talk pages, and the other thread is more about advertising and so forth. This one could please be kept specifically to the Wikipage please.

Our page at Wikipedia

Work is progressing on the article; I've beefed up the introduction with some more details and sections regarding the capital, name, and economics have been added. I've also added redirects to our page from the Federal_Commonwealth and United_Realms_of_the_Commonwealth pages at Wiki.

What really needs doing is extra detail being inserted on each section. Could somone do that? I know that a couple of extra people have been helping out.

Also, we need a picture or two; if someone could provide a link to a high quality picture in someway related - the maps for example - I'll upload it to Wiki; HOWEVER, on uploading it to Wiki the author must agree to its distribution.

Then we should be well on our way to the front page. ;-)

* The title reads "republicism", where it should be republicanism.

* Tribal or indigenous peoples is a more neutral term than "first nations" (a name only used in Canada anyway).

* Currency? NAFTA? NATO? US domination?

I've just added a section on the Armed Forces.

If you have a spare minute, take a look and add anything more that you can think of to it. It's already looking very informative and useful, in my opinion.

don't you mean "racialist"?

It's quite humourous really, it appears that the new author spent some time 'adjusting' our article, and all it took was three clicks to put it back.

Could I please request permission from the author of the image with the URL 'http://www.fcscanada.com/PastPresentFuture.jpg' to upload it to Wikipedia for use within the article with the following disclaimer:

'This work is copyrighted. The individual who uploaded this work and first used it in an article, and subsequent persons who place it into articles, assert that this qualifies as fair use of the material under United States copyright law.'

May I also add that the FCS World pages are exceedingly slow to load - and this is with broadband. For a start, you use images to represent words, which are 100 times as heavy on the user. It really is not necessary.

Could you please try to optimise your images in future? It is usually possible to lose 9/10ths of the file size without a considerable degredation of quality.

You know, someone created a French-language page on Wikipedia about the FCS. Here's the link:

http://fr.wikipedia.org/wiki/Federal_Commonwealth_Society

Is there any way to link it on the English site, where they put the list of languages up on the side? It's possible for other entries, you see, so it might be good to do it for this one.

Any thoughts on having other native languages of the Commonwealth? Maori, Welsh, Gaelic, an important Aboriginal dialect? I'm afraid I only have 3 words of Gaelic, two of Welsh and one of Maori, so can't do much translation myself... but perhaps, if anyone else can, it might be a good idea. Shows that we're inclusive.

Yolngu would be an option for the Top End of the Northern Territory, and Pitjintjatjara or Warlpiri for the Centre, but the parts of the country where Aboriginal languages are going strong are also the parts where there is little internet access.

These languages also barely exist in written form, and, of course, I don't speak any of them.

I think some of the languages you mention are probably not catered for by wiki.
That doesn't stop us making our own pages with them.

Also: shouldn't the french page be called something in french? not 'federal commonwealth society'

i suggest copy everyting in french to a new page:

la_societe_du_commonwealth_federale

and make the current french page and other similar name automatically redirect to it.

I haven't even heard of some of those languages, and quite a few of them are dead ones: Latin, Aramaic, Anglo-Saxon...

There also seem to be 47 articles in Klingon, I suspect for American math students. And what on Earth might "Interlingua" be?

I know there is a page for SCF Canada on your site. What I'm saying is do a copy of everything that is on the english wiki page at:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Federal_Commonwealth_Society

and translate it all into french and put it in the french language section of wiki.

Someone has already done so but used an english address so I suggested that we copy it to be under a title in french in the french section.

I know what the french section is.

Someone (I don't know who) started a page at the link below. They had copied one of the versions from the English page and translated it.

http://fr.wikipedia.org/wiki/Federal_Commonwealth_Society

Then I created the page below:

http://fr.wikipedia.org/wiki/La_Societe_Du_Commonwealth_Federale

Then I created the page below; copying all the stuff from the first page to this latest one. I then set the first two pages to automatically redirect anyone who uses the first two URLs to the page below which has the accents used by Jim on his website.

http://fr.wikipedia.org/wiki/La_Société_Du_Commonwealth_Fédérale

now we need keep pace with significant changes to the English version (e.g. the new pictures).

they have also started a new page.

That's OK but now the earlier don't all redirect properly.I've fiddled but now I have to go out.

That horrifying mixture of bad portuguese and words untranslated from the English looks like it was done by a machine. Please note: machines cannot translate. They produce nonsense.

I have uploaded a page in actual Portuguese, as used by human beings.

(To show what I mean, I used the site to "translate" the paragraph above into Portuguese and then "translate" the result back into English. The result was:

"That the mixture horrifying of the bad Portuguese and words untranslated of the English looks as it estêve made by a machine. Please note: the machines cannot translate. They produce the nonsense.")

I would suggest "fra i Reami del Commonwealth" and "che vengono perduti": the former because I think that "tra" is misused here, and the latter because it gives a better sense of present immediacy - our ties are still being lost, as well as having been systematically squandered in the past.

What do you think?

... it should be "ed e' fiera" because Societa' is feminine. Perhaps "accettiamo e siamo fieri della natura" etc.?
