] Date Posted: 14:21:13 11/10/04 Wed The revisions to the Commonwealth History page are now up and ready. Please take a look and give me your feedback. It is located at: www.fcscanada.com/commhist.html I have removed the animated gif maps and replaced them with still maps with good descriptions which gives the reader more time to study them and to understand them. I have also put better looking animated flags above each country section. I hope people here like it. I will also be tidying up the rest of the FCS Canada web site to remove any mistakes. Please let me know if there is anything you notice. [ Next Thread | Previous Thread | Next Message | Previous Message ] |

Date Posted: 16:57:13 11/10/04 Wed I think is is very good. I saw no historical errors as I glanced through it. The link at the bottom: The Future - Commonwealth Federation goes no-where. Also in the chart at the bottom comparing styles of government the width of the columns is irregular. Jim, I would strongly suggest also placing it as a website in its own right, outside fcscanada. I am sure that some site name like e.g. www.britishcommonwealthandempirehistory.com might be available. The reason is that so many people are interested in the general history of the empire and commonwealth and when a url is very specific, as the one above is, people are more likely to look at it when googleing. In other words I think that the site also being posted on a different, specialist website could well attract many to visit the fcs site and get interrested in this idea. Again, very well done! What do you think of my suggestion? [ Post a Reply to This Message ] |

Date Posted: 17:55:54 11/10/04 Wed Paddy: Your idea for a seperate web site for the Commonwealth History page is a very good one. I am going to look into that. I am sure that it will be easily set up. The Future - Commonwealth Federation is not supposed to be a link - it should be an underlined title. I will fix this. Also the Barbados and Bahamas flags are not showing properly so I will fix that by tomorrow. I will get back to you when I look at setting up a separate site for the history page - you are right - many people will be interested in this and it should draw attention to the FCS. Thanks for your good comments - they are well appreciated. [ Post a Reply to This Message ] |

Date Posted: 21:16:09 11/10/04 Wed Thanks again, Paddy - this is all in the works. I have enquired about setting up the new history site. I want to use something like www.britishempireandcommonwealthhistory.com Ofcourse, it will include a proper link to the FCS main web site. This page is very long, so I may split the new site into four pages as follows: British Empire Commonwealth Crown Commonwealth Proposed Federation (with a link to FCS international site) I will let you know when it's ready. Your contribution is very valuable. [ Post a Reply to This Message ] |

Date Posted: 18:33:40 11/10/04 Wed The main headline at the top of the page: The British Empire is also a link to nowhere! If you do decide to set up an external page, I would explain in a brief abstract the idea behind the FCS and then put in a more explicit link to the main site at the bottom of the page than exists in the fcscanada site. Hope that this helps! Paddy [ Post a Reply to This Message ] |

Date Posted: 22:01:00 11/10/04 Wed They certainly fit-in with my off-the-top-of-my-head memory of similar period maps. [ Post a Reply to This Message ] |

Date Posted: 22:17:34 11/10/04 Wed In the "Today" word map (which is very interresting) it might not be strictly accurate to refer to the groupings on the map as "post-colonial" associations. Poland & Roumania are great admirers of France and have a lot of closely-linked political systems & historic ties but it would not be right to describe them as ex-colonies. I very much suggest keeping the title of the map as it actually states very well the initial idea behind these groupings. Perhaps, though, explain just below that these two states joined the Francophonie in the post-colonial age because of their admiration for what that organisation had become. Similarly in the same note an explaination that Mozambique asked to join the Commonwealth because of its admiration of that organisation's principles (although historically it was a Portuguese colony) would make sense. Apart from this one minor footnote I feel that the maps are great! Paddy [ Post a Reply to This Message ] |

Date Posted: 14:41:20 11/11/04 Thu OK - I have removed the go-nowhere links and straightened out the uneven chart and fixed the Barbados and Bahamas flags on the Commonwealth History page. On the front page of the FCS Canada site, there are now two entry links in English and French. The French one takes you straight to the SCF Canada French page, so that a French-speaking person can look at everything in French without having to go through an English page. The English link goes straight to the Principles in English. These are all good suggestions from people on this forum which have made the Canadian site even better. Right now, I am following Paddy's suggestion and adding a note to the map of Post-Colonial Associations Today about those countries which were not colonies of those groups. This change should be up by tomorrow. The note will be at the top of the page under the title. Also, I have found some other go-nowhere links on some other pages, which are being fixed and will be up tomorrow. Then, the site will be completely updated. I will then go about setting up a new independent site for the Commonwealth History page. I will see about resizing the maps to make them fit on the screen after that is set up. Many thanks again to everyone here for their excellent contributions which have improved the site considerably, especially Paddy. [ Post a Reply to This Message ] |

Date Posted: 22:47:52 11/10/04 Wed My only problem with it is that it all loads at once, rather than as separate pages, and it doesn't fit horizontally on the screen. I have to scroll sideways to see the maps. [ Post a Reply to This Message ] |
