] Date Posted: 16:55:39 11/11/04 Thu I recall the website of another organisation called the international monarchist league. I intended to join this society but there website seems to be down and I wonder if they have ceased to exist (though plenty of other monarchist groups remain). They featured on the website a page called something like "What can you do?". Here it had information about how you could further the interests of the society and monarchism. I believe having something similar here on the FCS. [ Next Thread | Previous Thread | Next Message | Previous Message ] |

Date Posted: 17:11:32 11/11/04 Thu I know a bloke whose driving political passion is the re-establishment of ALL the European monarchies, since being republics has clearly not been good for them, poor simple souls... Is that what the International Monarchist League is about, or are they something different? [ Post a Reply to This Message ] |

Date Posted: 17:15:05 11/11/04 Thu After my letter was published in the Times, I got an e-mail from a German putting me in touch with a monarchist group here in Brazil. Apparently he thought that being in favour of my own monarchy meant that I would be in favour of other peoples' monarchies as well. Rather like assuming that since I like my own wife I will like all wives. [ Post a Reply to This Message ] |

Date Posted: 17:15:31 11/11/04 Thu No. They merely wish to preserve the monarchies that presently exist, including our own. Their website looks very good, so they can't have disestablished recently. [ Post a Reply to This Message ] |

Date Posted: 17:20:42 11/11/04 Thu ...except that, looking at modern Europe, the best-run and/or happiest countries seem to be monarchies. Norway, Spain, the Netherlands, the UK, etc., as compared with France, Portugal, Greece, Italy, Germany, and the whole of Eastern Europe. Vive le Roi, I say. Also, I happen to know the heirs to both the French and Austrian thrones, and they're both lovely girls! [ Post a Reply to This Message ] |

Date Posted: 18:26:58 11/11/04 Thu I like the fact that the biggest picture on their home page is a parade outside Buck House, whereas all the other monarchies have tiny pictures in the corner. Mind you, I like the look of the Bhutanese royal palace... did anyone see Michael Palin's trip to Bhutan on the telly? I taught a Bhutanese monk once, and, though technically a Buddhist and not supposed to acknowledge any worldly authority, had nothing but praise for the royal family and HRH Jigme Singye Wangchuck in particular. Hooray for monarchies. [ Post a Reply to This Message ] |
