I had the same problem with both the #3 wood and the #3 iron. I spoke with David Lake at One Iron Golf and he said I was trying to swing too hard with both clubs since, unconsciously, I knew them to be distance clubs. He was exactly right and the nest time at the range I was tagging both of them and have never had an issue since.

It is not enough to say to yourself not to swing too hard, you have to go to the range and practice it.
