Subject: Here I go!!

I just purchased a used Pro-Line set (3-LW : sorry didn't buy new but if this works and one of my buddies buys these off me I'm buying a brand new set!) and bought the Driver new from One Iron Golf website. Got the irons first and my first impressions are that they are well made. I've been playing Adams CMB irons with KBS shafts (I would say stiff but after reading Dave's info about shafts, that would be incorrect :) and I hit all my irons okay. I have occasional mishits but I like the idea of one length. I don't have an official handicap but play to about 18 right now (20 years ago was 11 hcp).

I've been swinging the clubs inside my house and then swinging my conventional equivalent. I like the feel of the One Iron clubs and feel just as good as the CMBs. I'm playing tomorrow (driver arrives today) and don't plan on having too much of a transition because I already hit my 6 and 7 iron very solid.

I have Game Golf Live and will use it to track my performance compared to my old clubs. This will be fun!

I drive the ball good off the tee with my current Adams Redline driver at 10.5 loft. I average about 230 - 240 off the tee with the occasional 280 to 300 (I'm 50 yrs old). These are real distances because Game Golf won't let me lie! It will be interesting to have the 12 degree driver set up close to middle of stance with a standard "7 iron swing" to see how it goes. I'm going to trust David Lake and what he's done for decades and just swing easy.

I'll report back on how it goes.

P.S. I find it encouraging that the maker of the clubs actively answers/responds on the forum here. Not sure Tom Wishon would be so quick to respond to everyone that asks a question. Good on you Mr. Lake!

Well, here's my update:

Played 9 holes just to get used to the clubs. Felt like, when I just swung the right way and with the correct setup, I hit the ball really well. The clubs are well made and good strikes on the ball reward you well. Driver was mixed, again from ball placement in stance, but got plenty of distance - even on mishits.

Today, played a full 18. Driver was good - misses were all because of me. Irons were great. Having a 3 iron I can trust is big for me. I don't use/have fairway woods. On my birdie hole, was a par 5 that I played 3-3-GW and drained a 10 foot putt. My score wasn't great because I 3 putted 9 holes! The greens at this course are brutal.

So, I'm so glad I've made this leap to single length and really glad I went with 1-Iron golf's irons and driver. I feel very confident that when I swing like I'm supposed to, the club will perform. No distance lost from conventional set - in fact, increased distance with low irons and having the 3 iron that I can bang out 190+ with confidence is great.

Great irons and driver. Can't go wrong with 1-Iron. You're game WILL improve. If not, you're doing it wrong - it's not the clubs!!!

Simplifies the game. What else do you want? Thanks Dave.

Went out again and this time played against a guy who always wants to bet on par 3s and play for money. This was a somewhat shorter course where driver off the tee is not the norm. There are 5 par 3s and Par for course is 71. Got there late, so no warm up. Stepped up and nailed a 1 Iron Golf 3 iron straight down the middle! Few level spots on this course even in the fairway so struggled a bit on the front 9. I was down 5 strokes, but won every par 3 because of my confidence with the single length irons. Back nine, shot 5 over. Had 8 pars total. The chipping with the SW and LW are great! So much confidence with them because you just keep hitting every shot in the middle. I'm really liking teeing off with 3 iron now. 225 straight down the middle is so great for confidence. I still hit the 1 Iron Golf Driver well too, so my all around game is improving. I'm glad I bought these clubs. Glad I went with this brand in particular.

Haven't updated here in a while. I have knocked 10 strokes off my handicap. No joke. I'm so confident off the tee with this 1 Iron Golf driver that I never think about it. Hitting more fairways helps the score. Now that I've been practicing my irons (have a simulator in my house helps!), my iron play is much better. So, I wanted to see if this was a fluke. Joined the Golf Channel AM Tour. My last tournament, I shot 1 under for handicap with 4 birdies and 2 penalties. I also got 2 skins that paid $70.

Just ordered the 3 wood and can't wait to continue improving. Thanks for making these great clubs Mr. Lake!
