Subject: Driver - steel to graphite shaft change?

Hello, I have the 1 Iron driver in the older make-up with the steel shaft. My understanding is that the current model with graphite came out in ~2019.

I am curious what changes you saw after the shaft switch? The 43" shaft is perfect for my height - would it be possible (or even worthwhile) to buy the graphite version from you for upgrading?

Samir,

The graphite shaft that we developed for the driver encompasses all of the stability benefits of steel but with a much lighter weight resulting in increased swing speed and distance. You would benefit from our current graphite shafted model; however, we are coming out with a new forged titanium driver in a couple of months that will replace our current driver. The new driver has a 10.5º loft angle as compared to the 12º loft angle of our current driver that produces greater distance. This coupled with the graphite shaft would give you a big boost in your distance over our steel shafted model.

I see that you are bringing out a 10.5 degree driver. I have two 12 degree models in steel and graphite. Both excellent. How much will this new driver cost?

Stephen,

Our new driver coming out in late April/May will be priced at $399. It is a forged titanium driver.

Thank you for reply.

You have changed your tune of graphite v steel shafts. You have said in the past that steel shafts perform better than graphite.

Stephen,

That is correct. Steel outperformed graphite up until just a few years ago. It was then that we started developing our own graphite driver shaft that combines the lighter weight of graphite with the stability/consistency of steel.

Does that mean you will make irons and fairways with graphite shafts in the future?

Stephen,

We have no plans to do so currently.

I have a set of your older model fairways and driver with steel shafts. I was thinking of putting graphite shafts in them. What are your thoughts on this.

Stephen,

If you prefer a lighter club then you can certainly do this.
